  1. GSF usually have them at a good price. I wonder if youv'e stumbled on a thing that knacks the MAF? Maybe a good idea to unplug it when jump starting perhaps?
  2. If it helps adrian - you are going through all of the things I did - apart from locking the tensioner. Problem is the dealer may now have got a tensioner in stock for you instead of a pulley/bearing. You might want to give them a call regarding your findings and have that done instead, Or cancel the work and do the job yourself after buying the tool. The car will remain driveable throughout this period. to confirm this - Just get someone to apply a touch of throttle while you watch the tensioner - it will stop wobbling at about 900 rpm, and your steering will be smooth.
  3. Ok Adrian - Best of luck with it mate
  4. I've not done it myself Adrian - but have you cheked the alternator pully as shown by Little Daz a few weeks ago? I think you'll find it with a search for "alternator pully" EDIT - I found it for you Adrian - but note that you were active in that thread :- noisy pully thread The fault you describe is precisely the same as I had - which was fixed by replacement of the alternator. If your car is not under warranty the Alternator pully would be the cheapest option
  5. A frequent occurence during or following a freezing spell when a car had no anti-freeze is a ... damaged impeller. The engine gets cranked which turns the pump - but ice around the impeller prevents the blades from rotating so they snap off. Could this have become noticeable everytime you have stressed your engine since we had minus temperatures?
  6. When the gal becomes stationary the wipers come 'down a level - till you resume driving.
  7. Ah yes SK, sorry - I forgot ^_^ They attributed it to the MAF sensor :o Myself and friends have had several new MAF's for loss of power between us over the years - but none for a miss-fire. Nor have I ever 'heard of it in any thread from the very knowledgeable members on here over the last two years or so. I had asked if the intercooler outlet pipe joint (which had a copius leak) being full of oil would block the low rpm airflow through it, yet have sufficient flow through it at above 2000 rpm when the fault clears. This methinks would effect the air - or lack of - passing the TMAP sensor? That was dismissed - and I don't really question that opinion. They did however replace the pipe. I rather think something minor was found but a MAF adds a tad to the bill - and perhaps helps to justify the cost to Ford Motor Co. Either way I'm a happy chappy because they also sorted my front parking sensors and advised me that there are leaking pipes on the AC that need changing, they have been orderred and will be fitted monday B)
  8. Clear night tonight glen - the stars are out in ya avatar
  9. Search for "tensioner" and see if anything sounds familiar mate This isn't a p155-take but copy and paste it into the search window with the correct spelling
  10. Well its sorted... I am so shocked at what it was - or what they said it was: I'm going to have to make a cliff hanger out of it because it just can not be right it was that simple give the absence of related fault codes
  11. ok Maz - you have an upside down baking tray here yea? A black one yea? Turn it up the other way to empty all the oven chips out yea? Now one end has a hole in it to put oil in - you know... where you filled it up? The other end has a circular 'moulding in it with an approximate 1" pipe coming out of it - pointing to about 10 o clock. The rubber pipe can be pulled off it if your nice and firm with it. I WOULD HAVE MODIFIED THE OTHER PICTURE BUT THE EDIT HAS EXPIRED
  12. That sounds like a darned good idea
  13. Yep - its on the top at the other end - easy to access
  14. That clip wants replacing dave.... :P Eh wot clip? :o You'll need a 1'4" drive socket set with a universal joint for one of the bolts at the back Maz. Space is seriously tight at the back of it - which suggests to me that the last time it was removed it did'nt get replaced correctly for that very reason by a lazy mechanic. The bolt I refer to is below that shiny dome thing which is behind and above the oil filler cap in the picture, and is the 'opposite number of the second bolt from the right at the front end.
  15. The black cover at the very top of the engine shown here is the rocker cover, it has the oil filler in it. It possibly just needs the 10mm bolts nipping up a tad. The gasket is a moulded rubber masterpiece - which would probably cost an arm and a leg http://www.fordgalaxy.org.uk/ford/uploads/post-647-1155745553.jpg
  16. That's a worrying occurence Marty. Having said that it is only a matter of time before they - like everything else get 'cloned. I suspect that someone somewhere is buying up the exchanged ones to replace a component... well their has to be a reason for taking the worn ones in part exchange methinks.
  17. A low tyre pressure can cause weak self centering - though it looks like you have covered all the common possibilities. Are you one for parking "up" a kerb - which could have shifted the tracking a tad?
  18. Ah - thanks Nik. Cant stand that red dwarf git - no wonder it went way over my head :)
  19. Erm - this bit: :) Go hide in the bush a large beasty might find you And Here I will be found. Its like being Dead Dave ! I know I'm old and slow but I just dont geddit :)
  20. Best of luck with that mate - wish mine was so simple.
  21. Remove the bulb, turn it through 180 degrees and replace it. It's quite an easy mistake to make on the Galaxy - for some reason the bulb holder accepts it the wrong way around. In years gone by the bulb would only locate in the right "direction" That said - the pins protruded a lot further years ago too.
  22. Oh - they're ok for cans and bottles - in fact I'd go as far to say they're drink holders rather than cup holders. They are also extremely high tech for their purpose - a lot of work went into developing them.
  23. Just over the stereo matey - but if yer daft enough to drive around with anything more tham 1/3 rd of a cup full you deserve some spillage - regardless of where they are. Welcome to the forum.
  24. And the next gripping installment of my sad tale of woe Went to ask another Ford dealer today if THEY are able to run a diagnostic on the VW engine... In their words... ANY Ford dealership can read the VW engine codes. Ok can we do that then please? It's amazing how dealers like to show up the competition :( Drove me around to the workshop there and then and plugged in the WDS or whatever it is they have. Four fault codes found... Each of the front parking distance sensors - No fault codes to the engine. A quick test drive showed a couple of glitches, idling at 1500 rpm clearly showed the fault but the workshop foreman has never fast idled an auto before so cant say it's a proven fault as far as establishing a clear warranty claim item for ford to pay them. Booked in for the service manager to drive it home on monday night to establish a clear problem before they can speak to ford about it. Some kind of routine will have to be followed possibly prior to getting a Ford specialist in to check it. Sounds like its going to take a while! I was also advised to say nothing of my afforts to resolve this myself being as a ford main dealer had no idea
