Also had that problem, but being less intelligent than Neil I took advice from somewhere and demolished the plastic section of the mechanism with a cordless drill. When it was off I was able to access the lever that opens the door. The lock is then accessed by the rear end of the open door to replace the motorised section - about

So you best be reading the motor manufacturers smallprint that refers to bulbs as consumables then. Imagine a night time taxi driver - and a school run mum as two extreme examples of the possible lifetime of a bulb.

I'd be looking behind the instrument panel to see if the plug has been pulled off - perhaps to hide a warning light...

I have just rtfm  The key does the same as the others apparently, but is not recomended for continual use. I have just unlocked my car with it and started it up, while inwardly groaning about the spring effort to hold the barrel into the starter motor position.

... thanks for the early reply! 4) What's the plastic one for? does it lock/unlock the car? For the hotel porter I think - can't get into your glove box or steal the car IIRC. I wouldn't like to trust a plastic key in my ignition barrel with the spring loading they have in them 5) Does the different cambelt change interval mean that ford realised 60K miles was too much or something??? If so, surely the earlier diesel mk2's should start changing @ 40K rather than the original 60K? Warranty on ther MK1 and first few MK11's was for two years and they allowed 60k between cambelt changes. My knowledge of why they reduced the interval is guesswork. Could be there is more load on the PD engine camshaft and Ford got worried. Could also be that when market pressures for 3 years warranty became stronger they decided the buyer would have to help pay for it via their franchised dealers gaining more work. The "changeover" occurred during early X-REG. Several large lease operators then ditched the galaxy because of the extra costs involved in keeping their cars for about 60K and the interval more recently returned to 60K (during "05" I think) - albeit under the guise of (or genuine) a stronger belt with a different part number

All will be revealed if you read the first topic in the FAQ's ;) Probably a bit late to start thinking of this now as the mean temperature is above 10 degrees anyway - you'll see whati mean as you read that thread.

Wonder how they get them to be "dust free"?

Get a decent torch in there then mate and study every warm hose by feel if you can't see it all. You'd be surprised how much you can't see - even in bright daylight. Also study the radiator area.

If it's any help I had an issue like this - and kept getting a whiff of hot water and occasionally the windscreen misted up. It turned out to be a small convoluted hose from the lower part of the expansion bottle to the engine block that had chaffed on a bracket below the fuel filter. After carefully looking with a very bright torch I noticed a small drip onto the gearbox housing. I couldn't see the damaged part but you can feel it all the way down - strangely it was worn through where there is an extra piece of hose over it... for that very reason :)

Dave-G replied to BIGRUPE01's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
It'll soon be illegal to smoke under galaxies in closed spaces :16: -
Take a look here - does this sound like your problem? Get a small screwdriver or nail file even and see if you can turn the top of the alternator fan towards the front of the car. If it don't move you have a conclusive answer courtesy of Littledaz. After youve read the post where this link takes you read the entire thread with a cuppa - you'll see what I'm getting at. alternator pulley

Mk2 Galaxy Parts Onto A Mk1 Galaxy
Dave-G replied to twinkle's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
I dont recall any member making a MK1.5/pretend MK11/hybrid which is why you got no answer to your query. For what it's worth the doors (for example) are "supposed" to be a different shape because wind deflectors for the MK1 allegedly wont fit a MK11. Someone has removed and refitted the same dash with photo's here - thanks Nick... dash removal Seems a good opportunity for you do do some vanguard. Perhaps you could take some photo's as you go and tell us all about it? All the best with it -
Heh - You should have kept this one Maz: DOOR mirror - as opposed to wing mirror Amazing how many people still call them wing mirrors <_< Couldn't find the old thread - sorry
