  3. sorry not slave cyl, i meant the entire clutch the bearing as well, no lost fluids at alll, car is only used to go shops about half mile away, then a few winter drives out, whats your opionion adding some oil leak stopper ?
  4. Evening all 1.9TDI 1998 150,000 miles, new clutch and slave fitted 5000 miles 3 years ago, started juddering in 1st and a bit in 2nd gear, roll restrictor seems fine, wonder if its oil seeping onto the clutch ? if so, i was wondering if a oil stop leak product may help ? if so would i add it to the engine or gearbox oil or both ? thanks.

  10. think he means the one that goes across the fat plastic pipe with a letter B on it, doesnt it go to the turbo ? its the same one that i had problems with when towing a caravan, under normal load it was ok but under heavy pulling it would pop off sending the engine into limp home mode, needed a much tighter clip to hold it on.
  11. you should hear the compressor click into action and the revs drop a very small amount on tickover, ours was like that last year it was clicking into action but not working as a compressor should, had to replace it.
  12. just been to local kwikfit, they regassed and vacuumed etc but still the same, they seemed a bit clueless, more sort of we can fill it but we dont know what maybe wrong if it dont work right
  13. could be that the drier unit needs changing, or maybe the worse case that the compressor maybe engaging but is not doing the job correctly im having a similer problem
  14. Hello all, air con was working fine until today, noticed when driving around town the revs were up and down , the ac compressor is on then it switches off i get warm air for a while then its back on and i get cold air then off again, this seems to be every 30 seconds or so , i had it checked , the gas was correct , no leaks, any ideas on this one , its an old one but a good one, 98 year tdi, i wonder if the compressor is on its way out i think its the original one. thanks
  15. get a vagcom lead from ebay and download the free software from ross tech this will then tell you if any sensor is throwing a fault code up
  16. i think the version from ross tech is 409 there is an earlier version as well, i downloaded them both, when you plug the usb lead in sometimes it wont find it try a different port on the laptop, took me ages of just fiddling around to make it connect in the end.
  17. i always have bubbles in the line up to the pump, never seems to cause poor running, on the fuel filter there is one rubber o ring that fits in a groove on the filter under the T piece, i noticed on mine the T is quiet an easy fit i bought a new one from ebay and that is as tight as a ducks >>>>> im gonna swop it and see if that stops the bubbles as well.
  18. sounds like the key fob, i got one cut for ours a while ago just a blank key to open the doors with no chip in it, it starts the car it runs for about 5 seconds then cuts out,. get your vagcom plugged in and see what faults it comes up with.
  19. many thanks once again, you boys know it all.
  20. hi all on top of the fuel filter there is a plastic inset for the return held in with the spring clip, i was changing the filter but noticed on the plastic insert there is an arrow for direction of fuel, does this arrow have to point towards the front of the engine or towards the back, i know its got pipes on so i should know but i took them off as well, doh ! thanks
  21. i did that job, i got a 2nd hand off ebay heated windsreen switch for
  22. have you done another vagcom to see if any more codes come up ?
  23. if you start car the heater then fires up a short while after, if your car has run for 10 miles it ought to have got to temp and shut down by then though some of these heaters have a mind of there own and keep going then stopping then starting,! if yours is runing and the exhaust is hot its probly burning of fuel from earlier attempts to start but failed. id leave it running till the smoking burns away. at least its working.
  24. what a performance today, thought i would do a diesel filter swop, took the number from the old one a mann brand wk851 got from shop didnt look at it, got it home, someone had kindly had fuel in it and greasy prints all over it , took it back and they swopped it, tried to refit new one and can i get it on no. the in and out pipes fit but the plastic thing that fits in a recessed hole with 2 more fuel pipes, what are they ? it just wont push down onto the filter so i can get the pin through, mann and hummel thought they was a good german brand, made in china stamed on the filter ! anyone else had this , makes me wonder if i should buy a ford one.
  25. dont forget though if its a mk1 with the D3 heater you wont have an additional coolant pump and the unit will not require resetting, the mk1 simply resets itself and will try to start aging next time you start the car from cold.
