Heres a question i can answer as this happened to mine when we had the TDI . for a long time when the car was warm or had to be started a few times on the trot, the first time when cold it would fire instantly, after that it was an utter sod cranking and cranking for ages . i thought it was something i had to live with but then one day i changed the fuel filter and broke the original t piece. it was a slackish fit like you describe., i got a new one from ebay and it was extremely tight to fit and i thought i was going to break it with th enforce i had to push it down with, got it on and from that day the car started instantly every time. no more cranking. i couldn't believe that such a small simple thing caused the problems i had with it., change it and in sure you will cure it.

Restore My Faith In Galaxies!?
marinabrid replied to ric220's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
we had mk1 tdi 110 manual for 10 years and was great, only sold as it was 15 and sold it while it had some worth, the wife liked autos and tan leather so we saw a 70,000 mile 1 owner 2.8 auto after reading the horror stories of auto box i wondered if it was a gamble but as the car was immaculate we took a chance, in the 12 months we've had it its fabulous a far smoother refined car more than the mk 1 the auto box seems as smooth as silk but also we do only 700 miles year so maybe my milage on autobox won't be as the more normal driver, the only bad thing with 2.8 is the poor mpg around 20 to 27 according to the computer on the dash, once again not really relevant to my low miles but someone driving a 2.8 every day would need deep pockets, so think its if you find a nice one and test it then as with any its a bit of a gamble. in the 10years of the mk1 i had no issues with door wiring this one though i have had to repair both front doors wiring to fix the electric windows and a coil pack to fix a lumpy tick over. its a pleasant change though in winter to get in a car and its warm in a few mins rather than the tdi when it had to drive a long way and have the booster working to get heat. -
wiggle ? i wiggled and wiggled and pulled and yanked the sod was practically welded on, i only had them off about 6 months ago as well and i out some grease on them, when you wiggle them the entire thing underneath is moving and looked like it was going to snap.

What Engine And Which Cylinder Is Which?
marinabrid replied to leepoll's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
f you mean the connector on top of the coil pack that is simply a multi plug there is a small catch push a screwdriver in to release the catch and pull the connector off or prise it off, they can be very tight fit -
What Engine And Which Cylinder Is Which?
marinabrid replied to leepoll's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
its the vw vr6 engine same as used in high performance vw cars but there are 12v and 24v versions, as far as i know no 1 is the one on the left as you stand in front of the car, if you have separate coils on each plug then its very easy to get them off, i got some water pump pliers and you can gently grasp the top of the coil pack rock it gently and pull up at the same time. depends on your budget but i simply changed all 6, on ebay there is eurocarparts and they were selling them at a knock down price of -

Door Wire Gaitor
marinabrid replied to marinabrid's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
done that already but theres no info on what to do if the whole thing starts going round, its impossible to get your hand through the bodywork inside unless they are child size hands to grab the thing to stop it going round you can't hold it either on the outside as its made of some kind of rubber, -
Hi all Trying to check wires in passenger front door for breaks, the big castellated ring i am trying to tap round to release it from the plug in the door but the whole thing is going round so it won't undo. Cant get my hand behind it in the pillar to hold it while i turn it to release it ? any ideas ?

Automatic Gearbox
marinabrid replied to niall1001's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Hi just been through the same dilemma, had a mk1 tdi for 10 years time for a change, did some research , seemed to be early and high mile cars 2000 up to 02/03 that had some problems with some parts inside that were modified for later models, thats purely what i read on a website, not my own knowledge, i went ahead and bought a 54 reg v6 with auto box i tested it as best i could and found it perfect smooth through gears and no noises, you can always put it on vagcom and query the gearbox controller for faults. this one has 72000 miles on and I'm hoping it goes for many years !!! from what i read, the faults seem to start with clunky changes from 2nd to 3rd or 3rd to 4th gear rather than a smooth affair. i read also that if you havent had trouble already then you are more or less on borrowed time, i chose to hope for the best ! if you look at the other forum fordmpv theres a chap on there who seems to know a fair bit. same with any used car though always a gamble, as silver beast says the other common problems can be sorted usually with not much hassle. -
Warm Rear Air Con
marinabrid replied to marinabrid's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
thats the odd thing as well when i had it on there was a pool under the car front and rear I've no idea how much gas is in as only had it a few weeks and i never thought of testing the rear air con, i turned the front on and its cold so was happy ! would a low gas cause the problem do you think and allow the front to work but not the rear ? -
Warm Rear Air Con
marinabrid replied to marinabrid's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
thats what i thought, that air from the front was cool that circulated and was then drawn into the rear system and blown out through the roof vent, if it does just that why then is there the evaporator and all the gubbins with the pipes running from the front of the car which are the same temp, not like the front where one pipe is cold and the other hot. -
Warm Rear Air Con
marinabrid replied to marinabrid's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
does your handbook also say it only works in recalculation mode ? at least I'm lucky to have the front working which is the main thing -
hi all any ideas why my rear air con is warm while the front is cold ? the rear only works in recirc mode according to the handbook, so today i put a air con cleaning bomb through put it on recirc and left it 10- mins, came back front cold as normal, rear roof vents blowing warm air, setting on the control unit is set to low 18 but still warm. any ideas ?

Do I Need A Silver Calcium Battery
marinabrid replied to marinabrid's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
looked on Halfords, it lists silver calcium and also cheaper lead, looking it up on web there seems to be divided opinion, some say the smart charging system must have a calcium battery where others say lead is fine but it may not last as long. The main thing that worried me was reading that these modern electronics are very sensitive and the wrong battery can cause problems with incorrect voltage. Makes you wonder who to believe. Mr Ford who states clearly silver calcium or the man in the real world. -
