next prob i see with these motors is this under seat relay , is it for locking and alarm or what ? ive been under the passenger seat all i find is the stowage box and a bit of wiring loom with a capped of end. the locking works fine as does everything else on the car !!!!!!!!!!! ive read about the flooding of the footwell but are there relays or something else under the floor or under the dash that get wet ? all dry at the moment.

i saw the pipe insulating story as well, im off to do asap. the chap said get 22mm thin walled pipe lage and do al the exposed metel water pipes under the car that run to the aux heater.

im wondering if it worked all along! but wasnt cold enough for it to work, any way i bypassed the temp switch on the wiper arm and of she went. i had to wait all day for it to cool down to test again,of it went again. this mornin monday i was up at 6.30 and after the engine ran for a few mins up it fired again. i drove a bit round the estate where i live and there was warm air. much sooner than before. it not a miracle heater and i wonder if all the fuss is worth it but any heat bertter than none. it carrys on after engine of and blows out hot exhaust fumes for a while. i guess im in the club of working heaters!

well there i was this mornin, been -5 overnight so instaed of starting the car and testing ther heater i gets under it and checks the wiring, the voltage was there at the termionals so i started it up and it whizzed a bit then stopped. i followed the removel instructions but beware.....its not that easy on all. after prising the unit down from a rusty braket and unbolting the exhaaust pipe there it was. i saw the photos that mike ha put on here butooooooooo the top screws totally rusted.over. i carefully chipped the cover off with a chisel then o dear to put it politlely, the other 2 upper screws totaly rusted in the bottom allen key bolt, well i put the key in and twisted and you guessed metal gone soft, just rounded off. no way was the unit going to be parted to readch the plug. o sod it. anyway i hit it with the hammer bolted it back together and fire upthe car. it whizzed again ,stopped then whoosh it started to run, i step back in awe. it kept going and going. the heater got warm very soon and then it cut out. i now waut till morning to see if it works again. also i did the temp sensor removel and bridged the terminals. i simply put one of the new type mini fuses across it. went out this aft, when we stoped the thing seemed to run for a few mins then stop. waitnig now for monday morn. joy or deep dimay.

can the mobile tuners who come round with the code readers to diagnose faults then clear and reset the computer to make this aux heater fire up or has it got to be dealer only ?. if ford want 500 to put new heater in then would it be better to have a truck type night heater fitted instead ?

have just been reading a past text on these aux heaters and a mr blatters states that the fraud dealer says that after three attempts at firing and not then working the thing has to be reset by a dealer. more cash out. so if we try a new glow plug and it dont fire do we have to risk the dealer trying to make us buy a new unit, or if we source our own does it have to be dealer reset again ? is it worth it i ask myself !

it appears that ford tell people you cant get the glowplug and need a new unit. ive spoken to a site called fixafordcar and they said the same. strange that vw list it though. maybe uts the german proffessionalism. dont think i spelt that word correctly. im hoping to fit this plug next week now the frosts arrived and get the thing working. will report asap. thanks for your great help and info mike.

hi when i get this glow plug out what do you do to test if it faulty ? ive got a multi meter, something about it making an open circuit. what do i do with it ? thanks.

is that an easy job? Yes, you just unclip the sensor from the wiper linkage at the passenger's side, unplug the teperature switch, wrap some copper wire round the pins on the switch and plug it back in. .. do you remove the temp switch permanantly? its a bit confusing. it then say wrap wire around it and plug back in ! would you mind clarifying for some of us who are thick !

yes i got it the wrong way round whata plonka ! its say tdi in chrome and all the letters are surrounded by red border. its a glx 1.9tdi 1st reg was 1.8.98 thanks so is it a 110?

hi, we got the s 98 galaxy with the ford 2006r unit in, wife wants a single slot cd. just takien it out but the unit has three wireblock conns in it, two of which are used. on the spare block there are 12 terminals and a single yellow wire has been taken from the upper row middle. it appears to go to the incar phone wiring,this is aftermarket fitted for as nokia 6210. as most cds have the two iso blocks what do i do with this yellow wire ? any view thanks

just been out all morning checking this and that, man we bought it from said it was a 1.9dti 110, its got an all chrome dti badge totally surrounded by red, is this correct for 110 ? also the heating seems odd. i run the engine and tested the heater blower and when i pressed the recirculation knob it lit up i could here the vents move then the light went out ,is this correct? thanks

have looked thrugh the posts but i cant find much technical info about this aux heater. if it aint working where do i begin to fathom it. i can do most diy jobs. whats the common things that cause malfunction ? could some kind person describe what it looks like and how the thing works please and the best way to sort it out. dont want the poor wife and 4 kids dressed like eskimos in winter ! (no offence to any eskimos out there } thanks all.

wow thanks for instant reply. do these aux heaters start and work automaticaly or is there a switch somewhere ? i havent noticed any jet engine noise !

hi all, got 1st galaxy, well its for the wife but im in charge of looking after it ,i get a few rewards for jobs well done. it got 130,000 miles on but seems to run great. its a 98 s reg 1.9dti 110 i believe but how do i check the power output ? 2nd, do all diesels take longer than a petrol car to warm up ? this takes at least 5 miles of decent speed running to get into the normal zone. can i swop the standard fit radio/cassette, the small standard din e looking one for a replacement cd head unit if i get a wiring plug. the car had a ford dealer cambelt done at 80,000 the chap i got it off said it would last till 160,000 is this correct or should i get it changed earlier and what about the pulley and tensioner ? many thanks no doubt i will have many more questions. i got to go out in morning and valet it for her fpr which i will get a big sunday lunch.
