from info i have gleened from this site and sgaf.eu the D5WZ will only work to 3/4 capacity as the mk1 pump doesnt give it enough fuel. mine has worked for 2 years ok but takes 20 mins to get reasonbly warm air when tickover, quicker if driving. i was looking to upgrade the pump but they are

try changing the pollen filter our car got the same and a new filter seemed to help a lot.also do use the aircon as this removes the moisture from the air
-
there are some on ebay but are the D5WZ units from mk2 , this is what i fitted 2 years ago, worked but not to full capacity as you need to change the metering pump as well this is what i am about to do but 2nd hand cant find and new price seems an expensive

you will have to drop the booster heater unit down to allow access to the multiplug its above it tucked up under the sill

does any kind soul out there have the ford part number for the mk2 2000 - 05 aux heater metering pump, i have the vw number but want to see if there is a big price difference after a year of wondering why my aux heater doesnt warm up before 20 mins i found by looking on the german version of this site,, sgaf that my 3kw pump on the mk1 wont pump enough fuel for the 5kw Uless some great brain out there knows if any up to 5kw pump would do, have seen on ebay for

not sure about it showing up seems to be a lot of poor running related to it and not showing up, but the easiest way is to simply unplug it see if there is a difference, dont know what stand alone reader you have, usually you download the vagcom software free from a firm in the usa called rosstech then get a £15 lead from ebay you of course need to use a laptop so you can get it to the car the programme that it installs on your laptop is the same as the vw garages have it very goood and free you cant do all the options with it unless you pay to upgrade it but i used it now for 6 years and sorted things out. rather than give you a fault code to look up it tells you on screen the fault code and what the fault is, you can then press the clear button and remove fault codes the whoosing noise could indeed be a air turbo pipe holed or loose, all hoses and vacuum pipes in particluar need carefull checking for splits or holes a maze of problems arise just with a small air leak. once you actually get galaxys running well they are great cars, we had them for 10 years now. just persever a bit

depends how cold it was, on my other post about to cold for the heater , when it was -8 the heater didnt start so i think thick diesel may have been the prob, i was right as soon as it went back to 2 or 4 it started up ok if yours is a mk 2 gal then the code faults may need clearing before it will restart however the mk1 doenst have this problem, it will always try and start the heater.

hi just out of curiosity from start up how long is it before you get hot air, ive a mk1 with a mk2 5kw heater and it takes 20 mins i think i have the 3kw pump on so its taking longer than it should to heat up

Too Cold For The Old Gals Aux Heater
marinabrid replied to marinabrid's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
well the temp is now back to the normal 4c outside and the heater has burst back into life so either the diesel got thick in the -8 we had in which case when you need it most its too cold for it good job we dont get these temps very often or maybe add some of the anti gel stuff to the fuel -
looked on the tis disk, no mention of the after run pump on mk 1 galaxy but it does say on the mk 2 section that one is fitted also on another site i read that some sharans and alhambras mk 1 up to year 2000 had it fitted like seatkid said his had. very strange.

sat here looking on the net, after looking at a few dubiuos sites i looked for something on the aux heater. i found this website which is german its called www.sgaf.de it seems to be the german counterpart for this forum, you can translate by clicking on the uk flag icon and google translate automaticaly does it some words are still in german but even i mangaed to read most stuff, the info on the aux heater is staggering with articles and photos and all things about it. the trouble these germans have gone to is amazing. they are known for being efficient and this site proves it. ive never seen anything like it. thats my pressy to you all.

to try and fix one on a bench you will need fuel supply and power etc.. a pal of mine who is a bus fitter took ours off and tried to bench test but as you need specialist test equipment to diagnose what is wrong you may spend many fruitless hours like we did . we stripped it down and cleaned out the combustion chamber, swopped the glowplug and thats about all you can do. usually the bolts that hold the 2 halves together are rusted so you got to buy new as well as some gaskets, cost us around

Smoke From Under The Hood
marinabrid replied to Ace1's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
rubber smell could be a drive belt sometimes the aircon clutch can sieze or maybe another pulley thats straining the belt ??? just a thought maybe a load of tosh but sometimes im right, the wife tells me that as well. wouldnt have thought it was the clutch if you were sat in traffic unless you were slipping it excessively. -
welocme to the wonderful aux heater post, my answers are gained from years of these, 1 yes the mk 1 is dumb no vagcom connect 2 the rear blower is inside the car at the back and is fed by water pipes from the aux heater no need to touch this blower unit 3 you say the hoses are bypassed, if the heater is just sat there then unplug the electrics and remove the unit i assumed by bypassed you mean someone has pulled both hoses off the heater and joined them ? 4 the cicuit is completed by crossing the sensor wiht a mini fuse 5 no run on pump fitted to mk 1 i dont know why and no one else seems to either 6 no 2nd battery unless you are lucky enough to have the one that has a timer and can be set to come on without the car running you can tell this if you have extra buttons on the overhead clock module rather than just the hours and min buttons any further questions just ask or go to the faqs and you can see the pump rempved and stripped down by members i think its a mk 2 but its just the same.

Too Cold For The Old Gals Aux Heater
marinabrid replied to marinabrid's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
yup its most annoying when you need the heater the most the little sod packs up the snow is a foot deep on the pavement and drive so cant even get under the car to swop it. -
just to add to that,, i fitted a mk 2 DW5 unit from a 03 car to our mkm1 98 reg. this has worked fine for 3 years till 2 days ago when it now fires up runs 5 mins then shuts down before the water is hot. im hoping it just needs the glowplug but even though its a mk 2 model aux heater it still wont connect with vagcom on a mk 1 car
-
no pump near the aux heater under the car, only the fuel pump a bit further away under the chassis im sure i read on here only the mk 2 had it fitted
-
well its as cold as its ever been before -8 last night here in Bridlington, aux heater fired up on every trip out till today,!!!! it runs for a few mins but never seems to spool up to full blast, it then shuts down, on re start it does the same, wonder if the fuel or metering pump could freeze up , anyone else had this ?
-
well i had a good look around but cant find anything im sure its only fitted to mk 2 but cant understand why
-
if the mk 1 and mk 2 have the aux heater and a water pump and work pretty much the same why has the mk 2 got this run on pump fitted. just wondering :(

get yourself a vagcom lead from ebay and download the free software from ross tech this is easier that trying to work out what maybe wrong the leads are about
