Hi DP, Did this first occur during the recent freezeing temperatures?
-
I'd not be readily accepting that Greg, the heater is standard equipment on every diesel Galaxy. That argument could apply to the headlamp motor... which they are fixing? What warranty did you get with it? I'm thinking 'complaing in a loud voice while other prospective buyers are within earshot...

I have to concede Brad that I didn't know what circulates the water through the auxilliary heater, and have no experience with working on the pump  You say it cuts out after a minute or so - does remain cut out or does it fire up again after a short period?

Help Finding A Thread Please...
Dave-G replied to buford_t_justice's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Ivor refers to it on the last post here: Ivors pictures of Aux heater -
Brad, This aint going to be a detailed story about how it works - read the faq's like the rest of us did. The heater - just like a back boiler will 'kick in and out as rquired to heat the cooling water of the engine. Were it to stay on I rather suspect it would boil the water that passes through it rather tham warm it. If your car is warm after 5 miles it sounds like it's operating well. When 'stone cold it will heat for longer periods than when it nearing its shut off temperature. It only operates below outside temperatures of 10 degrees, and we have had it fairly mild in the last week or two. The pump to which you refer is an after run pump which continues to circulate a small amount of coolant water around for a couple of minutes or so after the engine has stopped. EDIT: your Questions... "stopped"... is that engine stopped or car stopped??? You would need darn good hearing to hear the pump over the roar of the 'boiler You would feel heat after about five minutes if the car has not been driven. expect it to be warm as toast after fifteen minutes or so.

I'm thinking battery too. Winter sorts out the good ones from the bad ones. As it's going to be colder in the next few days see if it worsens in comparison to the last week or so of mild temperatures. Starting ok with jump leads would tend to confirm this

Side Airbag Vs Microphone Lead ?
Dave-G replied to Simp's topic in I.C.E (In Car Entertainment) Discussion
Hi - simon. I had no problem fitting my mic lead down it. I just pulled the 'doortrim seal trim back which leaves a large gap to shove the wire in. On older Gals I removed the trim - but felt uneasy about that couse of action on this 05 one which has "airbag" written on a little moulding that covers the mounting screw... that screw was not there on my 3 older models -
On later models, its (sometimes??) down behind a vent in the bumper, by the drivers side fog lamp. Dont think this came in till summer 2001. You can squirt it with iced water to force it as a test. John My last one was a December 01 build date. After I changed the Aux heater glowplug I shorted out the one on the wipers and got the heater to start up to check it. That sounds a good way to test it John - or maybe a squirt from a gas lighter refill can :D

Ah - looks like Mr. Bleeno at the back of the class hasn't been paying attention :D Write us 500 lines please - "I must look into the rear washer pipe thread" :P

Thanks for the help guys. I finaly got them to do a woosh test, An operator on the broadband helpline in india!. Was basically promied all would be well if I turned of my pc, then my router - then turn on the router and wait for all the led's to stabilize before turning on my pc. Well it's just as crap as ever this morning - I really want to wring someones neck. Unfortunately I live on a new private estate that has no cable to it - nor will have apparently so I'm stuck with BT lines... as they are all too aware of. That last link Nik... exchange has been uprated for 8MB capacity, products available 31/03/07. But I'll probably not see any increase given that they couldn't give me any more than 1MB when the closer to exchange area's got 2MB.
-
Thanks again Nik. That last bit allows me to go through the sequence described, but nothing happens when I hang up. I tried it a few times but there is now a further option required, I dont know which option to take. i have now emailed BT with a rant about how their 151 sends people round in circles and that I am considering switching ISP's. I know they all use the bt network, but at least bt will get less of my hard earned cash for their kak service

I've just tried that test again nik, Very similar figures - but as usual the forum pages open much quicker in the day than night times. I really get the feeling they figure there is less need to operate full capacity deep into the night. The smiley's also come in probably 5 times quicker in daytime. I'm beginning to think it's something the local exchange is doing. That BT guy - who was installing a second line for a neighbour said to get them to do a woosh test whatever one of them is.
-
OOPS - sorry ... typo in that post, My connection speed is supposed to be 1MB :o To give a clue as to how slow it is, I waited almost a minute for the smiley's to load after i clicked the smiley tab in quick reply ;) It's not just this site it happens to, I'm on five forums in all, and 4 of them are painfully slow. nik - thanks for that link, I ran the tests 3 times, they were all very close, mean average was 968 and 246. Thanks, Dave

Help please I'm getting to the end of my tether with BT. As a starter to this thread could someone tell me if most forum servers are in other countries, and the uk gets throttled back in some way at night because of reduced demand? My night time page loading is slower than what I used to get from my old dial up connection. I'm on 1K speed and unable to get any of the better speeds according to BT. I spoke to a BT phone installer outside yesterday as he accessed a pit covered by a manhole. He says we are 2k from the exchange.

Help! No Brake Pressure
Dave-G replied to Galaxy_Quest's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
I've been pushing back my pistons for over 40 years. Untill I got ABS cars - using a small vice to do the job. I now use a combination screw/press. I'm not saying "don't do it" but I have never released the nipples when pushing the fluid out of the brake caliper/cylinder. I have never had a problem with brakes after doing this. -
Welcome mate. Any change in consumption is likely to be minimal. Hmm - car67... taxi driver?

Bless - were your ears burning?

Aw sorry Tim. I'm getting to be right pedantic lately  If there was another one of me we'd be the two grumpy old guys up in the balcony shouting at Kermit and Miss Piggy. There's a massive amount of information in those threads - I couldn't even begin to add more than they offer and took the easiest and quikest way out to say please look further for your own good. I changed mine succesfully as a result of that thread. ATB, Dave.

You looks a bit too cheeky for a virgin

Possible Daft Question About Replacing Brake Pads
Dave-G replied to a topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
The warning comes on at about "half pad", designed to persuade you to get them done way before the next service which would find them low. That warning gets annoying after a while and gets "them" into your pockets again. In the good old days owners would just cut the wires and hey presto - no more warning. They soon put a stop to that by changing the wiring to NEED the complete circuit. We have to remember that there will be some who know zilch about their cars and always use a garage for everything, and thats before we even think about the blame culture aspects. This info is given to help "able and active" DIY'ers, IE those who would be astute enough to know that "metal to metal graunching" sound is the higher part of the rim of the disc chaffing the pad base. ... so unless you pull back the sleeving and remove some insulation from each wire and twist /solder them together you will just have to tolerate the warning or change the pads. -
I done a quick search and it looks like I'm wrong on the date PD's came available. The oil should be ok. EDIT: Have you have overfilled it?
