115 Tdi Hot Starting Problem
GSMGuy replied to iainkirk's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Hitting the accelerator will not make any difference to the fuel injecte, as the map will inject the correct amount accoring to inputs like temp etc... on't forget the 115 is rive by wire... Mike -
On the c/c system, as VR6 said, if you select the demist button (shaped like a windscreen) it will turn on the a/c put the fan on max and turn on the heated screens. If you have manual a/c and a heated front screen.. Which I think you do.. Then turning the direction control to windscreen will turn on the a/c (IF the fan is on) and put the heated fronnt screen into timer mode. If you turn on the fan, with the direction control anywhere else other than screen, you should be able to press the a/c button and turn it off. If you then turn off the fan and put it back on again, it the a/c will stay off - either until you press it again, or put the directional control on windscreen mode..... Phew!!! HTH  Mike

You'll be telling me next that you have one those old fashioned clutch thingy's ....... how quaint seems you need one! you could use the exercise to build up your legs :D whats up cant you manage the 2 miles to work without the car? :D Well, my 115 is producing around 13 bhp more than your 130, and gues what... It's quiet and smoke free!!!!!! :D Mike

I Wanted Sat Nav, But The Wife Didn't Think So...

I have an offer code somewhere to get TomtomGo for 360 delivered from pc world. I love mine, I have had Garmin ones and PDA/pocket pc based ones and the Go is the absolute winner! Mike -
Well I never - Jatco autoboxes are japanese!! HERE! Apparently, they use them in Range rovers and Black cabs too... Mike

I'm with John on this - AND, if you've been used to the Zafira, the 2.3 will seem dead in the lower end, as you won't be used to having to rev the motor! The difference in resale value should be apparent by the mere fact that it will cost you

NOW, I know why the buttons stick on the radio!! Mike

I had a similar prob on a couple of Peugeot TD's a few years back - turns out the rad matrix was partially blocked with sediment through either neeglected coolant changes or cheap antifreeze.... Stripped the header tanks from the core and cleaned out the tubes with a fine brass welding rod.. Back together and happy as larry until I sold it 3 years later.. Mike

Smelly Smoke From Middle Of Offside Tdi
GSMGuy replied to a topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Wow 190PS, thats a record lol... On the subject of smoke - do searches on aux heater or booster heater (as some call it) HTH Mike -
You should be able to put the single disc 6000, or the multi 6006e in there no problem... I could well be selling my 6000 in the next few weeks if you are interested....

Possibly wastegate stuck open, thereby effectively bypassing the turbo... Mike

The clear plastic bit is so you can see the VIN stamped into the chasis.. Mike

Hi, I would not worry about the smoke.. The smell is just a byproduct of the way in which ithe fuel is being burned, a similar process to those high powered gas blower heaters IIRC, it would appear that Ford's are probably the least knowledgeable people on this subject!! If you really want to, you can take out the glowplug and test it - it should be almost white hot within 3 or 4 seconds, and should draw aprox 8 amps when running (it is rated @ 8V & 8A) See the pics I have posted earlier in this thread for more info.. Mike

MM, the white smoke thing is quite common, if you bear in mind that the heater only fires up at low'ish temperatures, there will more than likely be a fair bit of moisture in the air that will turn to steam when it is drawn into the burner chamber. Mine only makes visible smoke the first time you start it up on a cold day, and it's not noticeable after a few minutes or so.. I think it is atomising fine, as the readout from the temperature sensor inside the unit gets as high as 360 deg C when it's on full (5kw) output.. Mike

Paul, what cable did you get? I got mine from SK Pang, and it comes with a reg no for Ross Tech, so I get free support.. Mike -
But... Apparently the injection pressure of the PD 115 & 130 motors is as high or even higher than common rail! And I think the PD system is a little bit simpler too! Mike

What Is The 'correct' Oil Level For A Tdi
GSMGuy replied to Taliska's topic in Questions about the Ford Galaxy
Oil level actually increases when the engine is warm for a couple of reasons... Heat causes the oil to expand, and any oil that was clinging to the side of block/sump etc will more readily return to the sump when it is warm and thinner.. TBH the difference is negligble, so as long as the level is between min & max, I wouln't worry.. HTH Mike -
Possible air leak in the fuel lines would cause this. If it actually fires up immediately on the 1t attempt, then the preheaters are working fine, it will be something else causing it to die straight away... Could also be relted to the throttle vavle plate that is used when the engine is turned off, it closes off the air supply to the engine to ensure a smooth shutdown.. Mike

Paul, will double check re the service indicator on TIS as soon as I get a mo... Or you can do it yourself Tues lol.. Blower motor... Hmm, maybe it's seized through lack of use??? I'd pull the heater down from under the car - only thing you need to disconnect is the fuel line, you can then take off the front and yop covers and you can see and touch the impellar... Give it a spin, you never know.... Have attached a pic I took when I changed the glow plug if it helps... http://img138.exs.cx/img138/6349/dsc022944tn.jpg The brown thing is the impellar, and you can see the motor below it.. Mike -
Sorted!!!! :( Mike

I am sure you sould persuade your local windscreen man to replace your std screen with a heated screen... Bearing in mind your ins co will be paying.... Sshh!!! Just an idea.. Mike

AFAIK, all Sharan's,Galaxy's & Alhambras come with abs from about 2000 on, not sure if the defining date is the facelift though... Is yours a pre/;post nose jobb?? Mike
