Front Screen Misting Up
GSMGuy replied to dipsomaniac's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
I'll back up what everyone is saying about Rain X - have used it for years and it's great.. Especially on the motorway! Not tried the interior stuff, but off to get some now... Wasn't happy to have to de-ice the INSIDE of my (old) work van this morning lol Mike -
I've installed SP2 on all 3 of my machines, the brothers' lapy and PC and the Mothers' PC - had a couple of probs, but nowt serious.... TIS CD can refuse to install, but it is a well documented prob and is a result of the fact that the program is 16 bit, and as such - quite old and incompatible with SP2 - However it's easy to sort and once you make the changes any other prog that would normally be a prob will run fine too... We had probs with our CAD Kitchen design software -- but all sorted now. Mike

You tell 'em John! You got my vote.... At the end of the day, we all are free to make the choices that need to be made! Mike

Is it not something that can be done through diagnostics? ie VAG-COM?? Mike

Crunching Into 2nd & 3rd Gear On Change Up
GSMGuy replied to a topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Sounds like the synchro on 2nd/3rd may be a bit slow spinning up when the oil is cold and thicker - check the oil level/grade. Can't see it being premature wear at that sort of mileage though. Shouldn't really get any worse as long as you are gentle with the lever when the box, and hence oil is cold.. Mike -
No need for marks, that's what the alignment pins are for - MM, does that kit do the PD as well, with it not having a fuel pump per se? Mike
-
If the originals have them, then the aftermarkets generally will - they are usually in the pads rather than the caliper. Mike

Yet...... Mike

Rimfire... On the subject of too much money ... I've bought my kit for 2 reasons: 1: I need to turn on the cruise control I have retrofitted, dealer wanted an hours labour!!! This pays for almost half the cost of the kit 2: Bought my car from a reputable but non-franchised dealer, who underwrites his own warranties, and has no exclusions other than tyres, exhausts and brake linings... So eant to make sure the vehicle has no "hidden" faults by checking the fault codes - so I can get them repaired b4 the warranty expires.. Money well spent in my opinion! Mike

Does A Pd Diesel Chip Actually Work
GSMGuy replied to davewill's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
The cheap and nasty ones DO turn on the fault light and kick into limp home mode! Initially the Bro in Law had a cheap one on his new Mondeo TDCi 130.. If you revved it anywhere near 4000, the glowplug light would start flashing and the motor would loose all power... You had to turn the ign off for a couple of mins to reset it. Since replaced it with a speedbuster box - and absolutely no problems at all. The 143 is from a rolling road and is the calculated power at the flywheel after taking into account transmission losses.. Mike -

Well.. I've had them on my last 4 cars and all made by the same company.. On my 2002 TDi115 Auto it has made a hell of a difference! I won't repeat my earlier posting, but have a look at the thread HERE HTH! Mike -
Rimfire - the Key USB has thedongle which activates the freely downloadable (but very restricted) VAG-COM into the FULL UNLOCKED program, you do not have to pay the $99 for the s/w!!! HTH Mike

After looking a bit more closely... You can remove the Fuel level sensor through the loadspace floor and draun the tank fully from there... Got to be easier?? Procedure is as pic.. Mike Damn, can't upload pics!
-
How much did you put in? It's a right pain to remove the tank!! :: 1. Drain the fuel tank. 2. Raise and support the vehicle. 3. CAUTION: Use a suitable packing material to prevent damage to the underside of the fuel tank.Using a suitable transmission jack, support the fuel tank.

Gadgetoid - not sure it is wise to make such posts before knowing all the facts... Especially with only 5 posts "on the clock" so to speak.... Mike -
Hmm.. TBH, I think I know exactly the *bay trader you are on about... Was thinking of upgrading the 6000 to a 6006 in my Gal, and was almost gonna purchase from him... UNTIL I looked at his other items for sale, and the reasons for same.... Became very suspicious... And am now going to buy from a legitimate breakers... H?ence one more reason for needing the Code Generator.... Swings and roundabouts eh?? Mike

Car Radio Universal Code Calculator
GSMGuy replied to a topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Hi all.. Any chance of this?? No sounds in my Gal since I fitted the cruise, as didn't realise I didn't have the code in the pack.. The prev owner (lease Co) aren't interested... And to top it all, the bro in law had an attempted theft of his Modeo Ghia last night.. They got disturbed and left the stereo on his lawn... Plugged it back in and all fine, but no code for him either... Much appreciated! Email... gsmguy@gmail.com Cheers Mike -
IMHO - I think that if the engine is what is known as an "interference" motor - ie, if the belt snaps, then the pistons hit the valves and cause major damage - the manufacturers are erring on the side of caution.... Personally, I would be inclined to stick to the 40k limit on a belt.. Last time I ignored the warnings, the belt on my Escort van snapped... @ 38000 miles since the last change, I know because I changed it the last time! Annoyingly, I had the new belt ehind the drivers' seat for the last 6 months/10k miles... And yep, the Escort D is an interference motor! But @

Paul, that cable should work, however, if you want to use all of the options in VAG-COM, you will need to register it (think it's
