Am I Gonna Be Raped?
GSMGuy replied to Lyle Waters's topic in Dealer Service and Reliability (Galaxy)
Depending on the year of your car you may or may not have either an Auxilary heater or a Booster heater... Both usea (afaik) the same heater system, one helps heat the water to speed warm up, and the other is actually programmable to come on when the car is empty - as well as helping warm up too.. Using oil is ok... But not using water... No engine should do that - there a leak somewhere, internal or external mate.. Mike

Ello.... do I need to post... lol Anyway - got mine from www.skpang.com got the HEX-PRO usb/serial/dongle job.. No need to pay to unlock the VAG-COM!! Anyway, first scan (easy to install and setup on lappy - get yourself a nice hot cuppa in that unused cup holder!) First scan gave me: Over pressure readings on all 4 injectors... Well it is chipped lol.. Over torque signal... See above! Intermittent inplausible signal from brake pedal switch - now fixed with a bit of WD40! Aux heater - Glowplug open circuit - now on order with VW (

Get a compression test done m8 - But... sounds like either the head gasket or an internal crack/leakage in the head or block.. More info... I assume it starts ok from cold? If so, after running it and getting it warm, is it at all reluctant to restart? Good indication of internal leakage, when motor is hot, the compression keeps the oil and/or water out of the cylinders.. When you park up, the pressure in the cooling system causes it to be forced back into the cylinders causing a lot of cranking before it will start.. Also, can you see bubbles in the coolant expansion tank? Let us know.. Mike

Have you tried pressing the lock button twice?? In a similar way to the Vectra, if you press unlock once it only opens the drivers' door - you have to press it again to unlock the rest.. Just a thought.. Mike

Johnb.. Where did you get the HID kit for the ultima? Mike

V6 Autobox Replacement Problem
GSMGuy replied to mattux's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Did they recon your OWN box or fit one off the shelf? As there is the possibility for instance that they may have fitted one from say a 2.0 which will have a lower final drive - or even put the wrong final drive back in your box... Does the engine seem to be revving faster for a given speed? Maybe another V6 owner could post what revs/speed they are getting for comparison?? Mike -
Hello, and welcome! If your heater was working, you couldn't miss the noise, even with the windows up - I had never heard it as the glow plug in my heater is faulty, and is on order - but last night I turned the combustion blower and fuel pump on via VAG-COM and it is quite loud.. Maybe your glow plug has gone? Apparently it's quite common.. Mike

Right - parts on order from the German guy... New switch and custom loom .... -
Right.. Kit arrived - quality gear, good solid connectors and quality cables ;) Software installed, plugged in and Cruise activated... Also found out that the glow plug in my aux heater is open circuit, and my brakelight switch is faulty... Explains a lot! AFAIC, it's already saved me the purchase price... Also good fun tolnight when we went out in my brothers' A4 Tdi130 which is chipped.. Saw a reading of 385 Nm torque @ 2100 rpm.... Awesome! Mike

Hmm.. Just been out to double check b4 going to bed... Blinking freezing out there!! Anyway, no faults shown on the display - BUT when pressing the brake pedal, the first dozen or so times... the lights didn't come on! Wonder if the switch is sticking when cold?? Mike

Just a thought... It is a Region 2 PAL DVD isn't it? Mike -
Lol - nah, I think it's a 'box problem - seems to be not so smooth changing from 2nd to 3rd of late.. Will all be revealed tomorrow... Hopefully Mike
-
Weird! So do you think it'll tell me anything when I "plug her in?" Mike
-
Just been out to check and all ok - But... How do failed brake lights cause the glowplug lamp to flash???
-
Hmm.... Typical, the postie called today with my VAG- COM lead but we were out... And wouldn't you know it - went out tonight in the car, and after about 5 miles, started getting the "ENGINE! WORKSHOP" message and the flashing glowplug light.. Not noticed any probs, ut think it is linked to the 'box, as it goes away if I restart, and only appears when I put it into D and pull away... Anyone got an thoughts? Also, if (as last time) there are no symtoms tomorrow when I et my lead from the PO, will it still be logged as a fault when I read the codes with VAG-COM? Mike
