Headlamp Not Moving, + Briter Bulbs
GSMGuy replied to marinabrid's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Don't bother with the so called brighter bulbs m8 - if they are a higher wattage, they will cause problems with wiring, and if they are "coated" they WILL burn out in a few weeks... Mike -
Cheers Aircon man, don't suppose you have a reliable contact in the NW, brother is having probs with his A... Mike
-
You'll have no probs with that - BUT if you have a PD, I'd be brimming the tank every hundred miles or so for the next 5/600 just to be safe... And a fuel additive wouldn't go amiss -can't be too careful!! Mike
-
That'll be the booster heater then.. Don't worry, at least yours is working!! Wait 'till it gets rteally cold and starts smoking! ;) Mike

Hi, are you sure you are not talking about the cabin auxilary heater, located in the n/s/r quarter panel, just to the side of the seat, as this is also quite noisy if the fan is on "3". The Booster heater is actually underneath the floor of the car, tucked up behind the Sill just in front of the n/s/r wheel... Read back in this thread if you aren't sure.. My Booster heater is quite noisy from outside the car (jet sound) but from inside, you can just about strain to hear it at idle, and you have to listen.. Mike

Vag-com & Things You Can Do With It!

IIRC Andrew, if you look at the braking module (03) If you have std brakes, it's listed as " Component: ABS 20 IE CAN 0001" and if you have traction it's " Component: ESP 20 CAN V005 " as you can see in the differences between my modules and those of Mr T in this post HERE hth Mike -

Vag-com Help,its Driving Me Nuts!
GSMGuy replied to paulmpaciorek's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Paul, the fault codes and part No's are not on the TIS, fault codes are translated by VAG-COM, so that's how you get the info that the blower, etc is faulty.. Part No's are on the Ford Microcat, of which I am struggling to get a working copy... Re the blower, you have 5 faults as it will try and fire up 5 times before "locking it out" so to speak, I had 5 faults for my glowplug. Re the temp sensor, as it's showing an intermittent fault, it may just be a loose connection... Have a look on the TIS to locate the sensor. HTH Mike -

Right here we go... First thing I did was to fit cruise control, and diagnose a faulty glow plug in my aux heater. I won't repeat the details here as I hae posted about them elsewhere in the oforum. Today, however, I have turned on the trip computer function on my Zetec! All you have to do is "recode" the instrument cluster (17) from 01421 to 13421 I have yet to fit the stalk/switch, but now my display gives me the 3 lines instead of the previous 2, although at the moment the trip is showing instantaneous mpg, and I can't change it until I fit the switch, which will be next week hopefully. Mike -
Thought I would start this thread, and post what I know can be done with VAG-COM in terms of altering things.... I do like to play lol.. Anyway, bear in mind that any info I post here will have been done using the latest version of VAG-COM and a Genuine OEM lead, equipped with the dongle, so if any of you are using a non genuine lead, you may not have the full functionality of the s/w unless you have paid to register it. Anyone else who is more familiar with this please post what you know, as I am still learning lol :) Mike

TSB about it.... TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN No.22/2002 Car and Light/Medium Commercial 28.03.2002 Section: 501-05 Model: 2000.75 Galaxy, built up to 25.08.2001 inclusive (build code 1G) Markets: All Subject: Central stowage compartment in the instrument panel difficult or impossible to open Summary Should a customer expresses concern that the central stowage compartment in the instrument panel is difficult or impossible to open, the probable cause is burrs or deposits in the rectangular cutouts at the front of the latches, worn rubber stops or a damaged cover of the central stowage compartment. To rectify this concern, the rectangular cutouts at the front latches should be reworked, and the rubber stops or, if necessary, the cover should be removed and replaced with new components. Parts Required

Hmm, 118/200 refers to dense black smoke... I quote: TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN No.118/2000 Car and Light/Medium Commercial 19.10.2000 Section: 412-02 (34) Model: Galaxy with 1.9 TDI engine with booster heater or auxiliary heater, built from 27.06.1997 to 10.09.1999 (build code VR to XJ) Markets: All Subject: Dense black smoke coming from the exhaust pipe of the booster heater Summary Should a customer exprtess concern about black smoke coming from the booster heater. the probable cause may be: 1. Brief, light emission of smoke during start-up and after run of the booster heater (approx. 10-20s). Cause: One off emission of black smoke resulting from the design of the booster heater. No further action required. 2. Light emission of smoke at low ambient temperatures and high humidity. Cause: If white smoke appears at the exhaust pipe when the vehicle engine is running, then water vapour is the cause. No further action required. 3. Thick, continuous emission of grey smoke. Cause: Booster heater metering pump is faulty. Excessive deposits in the burner of the additional heater. Burner is over saturated with unburned fuel. Remedy: Install a new booster heater metering pump and, if necessary, a new booster heater.. Ps I've highlighted No2 to show that the white smoke is considered to be caused by water vapour, and is a normal part of operation -as per my earlier post.. Mike <_<

We'll agree to differ John, but a Dad who spent 20 years reconditioning at a Lucas main agent think you are wrong.... <_< Mike

I'm sure he will, all that torque and so much more economical than that nasty gutless 2.3! <_< Mike

I rest my case!! Mike

How can turning it off be a cure?? From what you posted, it appears to be working fine, all that will happen now is the engine will take longer to warm upo, with the associated extra wear this brings, and the cabin will take (a lot) longer to heat up also.. Mike
-
Sorry m8, if the bulb blows it will have no effect on the charging of the battery. it is not in "the circuit" so to speak, as the power to illuminate the bulb comes from a seperate connection on the alternator. The bulb is purely to give an indication of a problem. Mike
