Random Overheating
chrispb123456 replied to paulh's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Paul Try removing the small pipe connected to the top of the water bottle, remove the filler cap and direct the hose into the filler (you may need to extend the hose) run the engine at 2000rpm and observe the end of the pipe, a stream of coolant should be ejected back into the bottle. If nothing comes out then the restriction in the hose is blocked you will need to clear this or fit a new pipe. If there's coolant with alot of air bubbles which I suspect there will be then you have combustion gases entering the system. If only coolant and the odd air bubble that's fine. Also check operation of coolant run on pump? if this is not working it could cause premature head gasket failure. -
Hi and welcome to the forum Could be worth checking your glow plugs, even though your car may be starting OK without to much cranking, after the engine has started the glow plugs continue on for several minutes depending on outside air temperature and regardless of glowplug warning light. One or more plugs not working will give an engine misfire and higher exhaust emissions until engine warms up. Also worth changing fuel filter prior to cold weather in case water droplets have collected there. The Ebersp

Galaxy Rear Caliper Slider
chrispb123456 replied to Paul600's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Hi and welcome to the forum If the pins are seized that bad and if the small rubber gaiters have perished I dont think you have any choice only to replace with a new or secondhand caliper carrier, good brakes are an essential item dont cut corners here. -
Puzzling Immobilser Problem
chrispb123456 replied to seveer's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
I would say so, have a read of this link. http://www.fordgalaxy.org.uk/ford/index.php?/topic/8810-relay-30-replacement/page__view__findpost__p__141277__hl__door+led+flashing__fromsearch__1 -
Hi Looks like there's been a problem there before as the black wire should be connected the same way as the wires below, connecting in that way will have bypassed the fuse, this was probably done as a temporary fix thats been left.

Lcd Mileage Staying On
chrispb123456 replied to derbylad's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Hi and welcome to the forum Firstly why on earth would you want to take out the engine management light (assuming this is a petrol version) Secondly iv'e had a MK2 for seven years and the lcd display has always been visible with ignition on or off -
The EGR is visible behind the cam cover, access is better if the bulkhead extension (scuttle) is removed. Tools required quarter inch drive socket set with torx bits is best. Remove the large air pipe held by spring clip and pull off the two vacuum pipes, then there's 3 bolts attaching valve to inlet manifold and 2 bolts under valve attaching small exhaust tube, can be a bit fiddly depending how good you are :D

Knocking Noise From Engine
chrispb123456 replied to Rosie's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Try undoing each injector pipe in turn, see if there's any reduction in the knock, could also be a camshaft/tappet wear -
Hi and welcome to the forum Lets have some vehicle details then!! year, engine code, etc.

Oooooooo No Brakes!
chrispb123456 replied to TinTentTourist's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
At least you avoided having your brake servo changed unnecessarily and you affected a temporary repair to get you out of trouble, but do hope you have now replaced the perished pipes? you wouldn't want it to catch you out one day when your not expecting it. -
Heeeelp Mot Fail
chrispb123456 replied to Galaxy newbie's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Hi Andy Tightening the cable may not cure your problem here, you need to look at the arms on the caliper, make sure the arm contacts the stop peg when hand brake is off, if it's not doing that the self adjusting mechanism in the caliper wont work. The same situation can also arise from seized cables and/or caliper mechanism especially if the footbrake is working normally. -

No Revs Over 3200rpm
chrispb123456 replied to MPL's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Chris can you please explain your thinking on this one? Hi BJ thank you for your interest MPL started off by saying intermittent and now become more permanent, and the not starting when hot could be associated with a faulty 109, he has also changed many expensive parts already so replacing a -
Glow Plug Light Flashing / Workshop
chrispb123456 replied to maxiboo's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Your car is basically a VW with a Ford badge. Vagcom is compatible with all the 1.9TDI's and the V6 petrol modules because they are VW engines, but is not compatible with the 2.0 % 2.3 petrol engine modules because they are Ford engines. However it will still work on other electrics on these cars. -
No Revs Over 3200rpm
chrispb123456 replied to MPL's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
I would go for changing relay 109 (third layer in fuse box) when this is faulty it will not leave a fault code.
