Hi I think it depends on tyre size and that will depend on your year and model mine are 215/55 R 16 97 H rf that also concurs with the sticker on the door pillar. Double check with a reputable tyre dealer. :)

Screeching Booster Heater
chrispb123456 replied to Steveenduro's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Hi It sounds like fan motor bearings are dry seizing up or now seized up obviously the unit does get very hot so if its the original myself I would take the unit right off and give it a good clean up cos your looking at around -
It shouldn't be slow at all. Which version of vagcom are you using ( 3.11 or 4.09 ) or whatever. Check that you are using the correct drivers for the lead. Most likely you require the ftdi drivers see link below and download version 2.06. http://www.ftdichip.com/Drivers/VCP.htm Hi Big Kev The disc says 409.1 cable driver there's no information on the cable only OBDII I did try updating COM drivers in device manager but it said it was already using the best one, you say then to download this driver ftdi will I have to remove the other one first or can it be left on computer. Jayton was saying about tweaking the baud rate did you need to do that or are you on default settings. cheers Chris

Hi Big Kev have tried what you said still get to many comm errors to continue. am using quite a high power laptop but this program is painstakinly slow is this usual or do you think this lead/software is dodgy :D

Sonnym what exactly is the problem? hi there, just come back after heart attack, operation, convalescence, end of convalescence exams (successful-no heart disease any more). Thanks for the reply. Abs light on, and abs doesnt work. The problem it seems is the unit, the ford mechanic in italy said that the unit seemed failed on the vag-com, (no communication) and abs rings were ok. the unit plus the job would cost 1300 euros!! i probably need to see if the connection is ok. any information , pictures, guidance would be very much appreciated. thanks in advance. Sonny Check leads going to sensors on wheels they can get damaged when working on suspension

What Kind Of Tuning!
chrispb123456 replied to TOM65's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Thanks for your replies guys, the car recently had new cat, lambda sensor and passed it's MOT Since then the fuel economy slumped. I wonder if they done something at the garage. Hi I think I would be a bit worried if the economy has got that bad since having those parts fitted, have you got a genuine emissions pass? I would be very doubtfull the emissions are within the limits if the consumption is that bad. :25: -
How To Wire Up A Relay...
chrispb123456 replied to koro's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Hi A relay is simply an electrical switch they are used on things like headlights heated windows electric windows etc, anything really that draws a heavy load, the normal switches used on cars today are not designed to take the full current and as most relays are in a central fuse box it reduces the size and amount of wiring needed. Relays can also be controlled by ECU's modules and timers for safety related items. -
hi BigKev Am using an XP Laptop I changed the setting as you said will try again tomorrow cheers Chris :D
-
Ok Jay thanks for that i'll give it a try tomorrow and let you know :) Hi Jay :D No luck with altering baud setting I did try 9600 after googlng and have tried other random numbers have tried it on various modules but its the same answer have also tried removing and reloading software, have read you only get what you pay for but it does look the job, the lead that is :D

chrispb123456 replied to koro's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Many thanks for looking, if i get a normal 4 pin relay 20 amp, will it have a diagram on the top, so I know which pin is which? Is "normal" the correct terminology for a relay, the parts guy I go to, aint the most helpfull... Hi just being nosey here, are you trying to repair a fault on your headlights or add extra lights? Would just like to say be carefull when wiring into lights on a vehicle with (bulb failure relay) thats the little amber symbol of a light bulb that comes on when you first switch on ignition and goes off when you press footbrake, -
Ok Jay thanks for that i'll give it a try tomorrow and let you know :)

Aux Heater ?
chrispb123456 replied to marinabrid's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Hi Kev I assume your getting the fumes coming in when your driving along if you can smell engine/exhaust fumes coming through heater vents I wouldnt think its fumes from your booster heater as that would be taken away behind the car when driving along. What can happen though is the scuttle plate under the wiper motor area may not be fitted correctly do you know if its been removed recently this has to be removed to get to things like the wiper linkage, pollen filter, electric coolant circulating pump, top suspension strut nut, to name a few Its held on by 3 bolts but the bottom edge fits under guides which keep it tight against a rubber seal keeping any fumes away from air intake into car, its worth having a look at specially if its been taken off recently -
Changing Rear Discs And Pads Tomorrow
chrispb123456 replied to Jayton's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
There would be always two groups of people, one would bled and another one just remove brake fluid reservoir cap and press pistons slowly inwards. I know some people working in the garage for 25+ years and they never bled system when changing disks/pads. I have changed front disks/pads today without bleeding and everything is fine. George Hi All Just checked the TIS manual regarding changing brake pads. There is no mention of undoing bleed screw when retracting caliper pistons it just says brake fluid will be displaced into the reservoir, using the special tool to retract the piston although I have improvised using a pair of pipe grips and a G clamp on the rears coz the rear pistons need to be turned and pushed at the same time its a bit fiddly but can be done the fronts are easy just a G clamp to push piston back, dont forget to take the cap off the reservoir first. Have done two sets on mine in five years and never had a problem. Also TIS uses the jar and tube method for bleeding -
Hi Jay Yes it does come up on 1 port no4. port ok interface found scaned module 01 comes up with a box heading session unreliable and in the box (too many comm errors to continue and thats the same for all the modules I tried 1. 2. 18. 3. it is quite slow also waiting for the different screens to open but as I said am not familiar with this at all, also when selecting the control module screen I get the program not responding for a few seconds then the page opens. Hi Jayton I have recently got a lead and disc off ebay and followed the installation which appears to be successfull (connects to interface) other than that have got no instructions on how to use it? Am assuming we use the VW Sharan from the drop down list have tried the auto scan which only shows no faults found on engine and transmission but when I try select control module I get a box come up saying to many comm errors, if you have any ideas or point me in the right direction. cheers Chris

The heated screen automatically comes on when first starting when outside temp is approx around the freezing mark -
Aux Heater Glow Plug
chrispb123456 replied to billywizzo's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
No it was not the correct plug as i emailed the seller and he confirmed it was not correct. Got one from GSF, changed it but still got a problem with lots of smoke. Hope it will clear with use but not hopeful and if not will just pull the fuse and live with out it. Hi there I have never had the problem with the smoke but just had a thought when you get all this smoke can you hear the fan going inside the eberspacher unit I have heard they can get jammed/seized during the summer months when they are not working -
Hi there There is a special tool for removing door panel but if your carefull 2 large flat screwdriver will do! these instructions are for drivers door others will be similar. 1. Start by prizing the back of the pull handle grip, thats the part your fingers wrap round when you pull the door shut when that is off you can then prise upwards the rest of the handle/window switches etc and unplug the lead. 2. Now you can see the 3 bolts through the opening. 3. Now comes the fiddly bit there's about 8 plastic clips that hold the panel to the door you need to just pull the panel just enough to slide your 2 screwdrivers either side of the yellow clips keeping the drivers as close to the clips as possible be carefull here you dont want to damage the door panel its only cardboard. 4. You should now be left with the panel hanging by its top edge, it now needs pushing upwards, there will be more cables to unplug from your mirrors, lower door lamp, alarm led. 5. Lastly depress platic clip on door latch cable. 6. Speakers now just unscrew and lift out. Refitting is obviously the reverse and using palm of your hand to bang the panel back on.

Creaking Steering Help Please!
chrispb123456 replied to lch05's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Hi I did have a noise like that and that it was the lower suspension arm ball joints they are sealed for life but the grease had dried out, if your carefull with the aid of a small screwdriver you can stretch the rubber boot and insert an oil can and pump a small quantity of gear oil which will find its way down into the joint. -
I have a 2003 1.9TDI Ghia have had the car 4 years now have done all my own repairs in the past except air con rad and re-gas, am having some small problems I hope with auto g/box. I think it would benefit from having the fluid and filter changed and has just clocked the 100.000 It is noticably slow engaging drive after taking foot off the foot brake but only when engine/gearbox is cold and it has been extra cold around here this winter am not aware of any other problems with it. Information is very limited on the MK II I have got one of those Ford TIS manuals on CD which is quite useful but apart from going to Ford to buy the fluid
