  4. Check the connections on the fuel tank sender may be corroded.
  5. Unfortunately the 2.3 ECU is behind the dash according to the TIS manual you need to remove the instrument panel upper section (quite involved) will scan the instructions to you if you send me a personal message with your email address. There,s a lot of pages to scan but wont do them until/if I receive your address
  6. You could also try cleaning idle control valve with decarboniser.

  11. Is there not an oil quality sensor on these models? may just need an oil and filter change.
  12. Hi and welcome to the forum Sounds to me like you have at least two problems. 1. Have you opened the key to replace battery's recently because it sound like the PATS chip has fell out, this causes the engine to run only for a few seconds. 2. Car going into limp mode, could be a number of reasons for this, but wont be caused by the key, if you have lost the chip you need to find it or will prove very expensive. Do a search for limp mode there's lots of info on what it may be.
  13. All keys have a chip (PATS) inside, the remote key (the one with the two buttons) can be taken apart to change it's battery's, when doing this the small chip (looks like a piece of plastic 10 x 5 x 2mm) may have dropped out unnoticed. On the key without the buttons the chip is a tight fit in the end of the fob. There's not an easy fix and if he has only that one key and has lost the chip £££ :40:
  14. Come on give us a clue where not psychic. Year. Engine/code Petrol/Diesel Manual/Auto Oh and welcome to the forum.
  15. Hi and welcome to the forum As said it is a common fault, depending on how bad the melting is and the condition of the terminals you could solder the terminals on if your handy but you would need to use a blow lamp with a small nozzle.
  16. Hi and welcome to the forum Check your drivers door gaiter for broken chaffed wiring, this causes lots of issues, you may need to check other doors and tailgate at some point.
  17. Try using the spare key as it sounds like the immobilizer kicking in.
  18. Hi and welcome to the forum Have a look at the tailgate wiring gaiter, this causes all sorts of problems.
  19. Never seen that circlip in any boot kits, iirc its part of the CV joint
  20. Hi and welcome to the forum Am going to assume this is a 2.0 or 2.3 petrol Common problem for your point 1 is the idle control valve needs to be removed and cleaned with carb cleaner. Point 2 is the squealing inside or outside the car? Point 3 maybe broken wiring in door gaiters and possibly blown fuses Point 4 door window mechanism broken or glass detached from lifter.

  22. As said this is just a quick check to test starter The picture shows a view from under the car looking at starter motor, you will see the two terminals, the larger one is the lead from the battery + terminal, the small one is the feed from ignition switch. Now you need a short length of wire, you need to bridge the two terminals on the starter, the starter should operate immedietly you touch both terminals, Alternativly you could use your jump leads (space permitting) connect battery - to the earth lead on starter, connect battery + then touch solenoid terminal. If there's no life from starter you will need to replace, if it turns over then you have a problem elsewhere report back
  23. So you have a 2001 MK2 2.3 manual thats fine. If there's no clicking or noise from the starter then go there first, check connections on starter and earth from engine to chassis, if they look good check for current at the solenoid wire on the starter when turning key, or if your brave short circuit the solenoid terminal to the starter + terminal this should energise the starter. Report back.
  24. Happy Birthday. Just cracked open a bottle of my favorite, (thanks again Gregers :19:)
