  1. Have you removed the cap from the air drier and checked for leaks there, also follow pipework through wheel arch where the pipes are clipped they corrode and leak, can be difficult to see as they are well hidden
  2. The smoke and smell will be the clutch burning, to much of that and you will find yourself needing another new clutch.
  3. What you have to appreciate is that any vehicle will lose gas naturally over time, so considering the system is under pressure even when not running the very slightest leak will cause loss of aircon in a very short time, so chancing a bodged repair may turn out to be more costly in the long run.

  5. Get yourself Vagcom KKL lead from ebay and scan for codes, meanwhile check wiring to high/low pressure switch behind O/S front foglight area also check the outside temp sensor behind lower grill
  6. Can't help with your part, but are you sure about MK1 AUY combination. The AUY code is a PD engine fitted to the MK2
  7. Flashing glow plug light should register a fault code, scan your's with vagcom and see what comes up.
  8. Check your brake lights are working properly, you may have a faulty or wrongly adjusted brake light switch.
  9. Have you actually checked continuity of fuse 53 as consumer cut off relay is for interior lights!
  10. You will only visually see roll restrictor from underneath with the cover off, but you can test for movement as Greg has mentioned.

Auto HVAC 00792 is probably low refridgerent level 01141 check wiring through tailgate gaiter for breaks & shorting wiring 00955 to do with key fob, may be faulty or low battery

  15. That's amazing a dealer promoting Castrol fluid as opposed to their own at more than half the price, I wonder if they use it in their workshop.

  18. Make a note of the faults or print off, then clear the fault codes take for a drive and see if any reappear.
  19. Have you checked the bunch of smaller wires attached to the battery + and earthing points and engine to body earth.
  20. Will help if you tell us what engine you have ? petrol or diesel
  21. That looks like the power supply to the heated screen, there should be another on the other side. Most Mk 1's don't have remote central locking
