  1. Are they in good nick? I.e No tears, rips, fag burns, split stiching, or broken mechanism? If so you will probably get around
  2. Guys (and girls) As i have decided to keep hold of the Gal a while longer i am still interested in getting a replacement n/s rear seat in the fabric as per picture above Anyone with a spare seat in this fabric to sell, please pm me Thanks Dave
  3. Thanks guys, it feels good to be wanted :16: The trouble is, i now know the following things are going to need sorting over the next 6 months or so 1. Over run on water pump - its making a buzzing noise when i turn off the engine , someone suggested bushes are worn 2. The dreaded "limp mode", where there is little or no acceleration - Turbo Vanes , vacuum pipe??? 3. MOT in March - what will that hold??? 4. A/Con - Topped up last May last year, OK then, but this year??????? Plus any one of Drive Shafts, Auto Gear box, Aux Heater, Glow plugs etc etc Oh how happy i am to keep the Gal, i'm just off to listen to a Leonard Cohen record and really cheer myself up
  4. Roll back, Roll back After many discussions and changes of mind over the weekend, the decision has been made to stick with the Gal for the time being So i will still be posting and asking questions on here and have not gone away Look forward to continuing with the questions and banter Cheers guys
  5. Well after the last 7 years of drivng Gal's the end is nigh My current 2006 Mkll model has 74,000 on it, and although it has been pretty relaible over the last 2 years little niggles are now occuring, and i can see some hefty money needed to be spent during 2010 So, i've decided to trade her in for an SMax
  6. I have a Mkll and the fuses for cigar lighter and rear power socket are to the lower right hand side of the steering wheel below the main light switch, behind a pull down panel Fuese 7 and 8 if i remember correctly, 10A for front and 15A for rear boot socket I posted a query a while ago as my rear power socket kept blowing a fuse when i used a portable comressor http://www.fordgalaxy.org.uk/ford/index.php?showtopic=19507 Hopefully you can click on the link above and it will take you there May be of use??
  7. I had this problem on my 52 plate Mkll Zetec. It turned out to be the impellor problem in the water pump. The impellor had as is normal fallen off, and could not pump water to the heater system. Eventually (after a few days) the car started to overheat and a new water pump was required. I think you may find you have the same problem
  8. The Ford Badge on the front grill is held on by a sticky substance Get a piece of fishing line about 6 inches long. Warm up the badge with a hairdryer to "loosen" the sticky stuff, then using a small flat head screwdiver, gently lift a corner of the badge up. Push the fishing wire under the gap and pull it backwards and forwards like a sawing motion, between the badge and the grill, moving across and under the badge. This will remove the badge from the grill. The new badge should have protective tape on it, and when you remove this, it reveals the sticky side. Stick on grill and admire. e-bay or scrappies for No. 2 , sorry don't know about No. 3
  9. After a longish run, and when the engine has got hot, i get a sort of tapping noise when i switch off the car Obviously something keeps running after the engine has been turned off (fan???) and whatever it is, it now makes a tapping type of noise Its not mega loud, but you can hear it in the car, and also when you stand next to the car It seems to stop after about 3 or 4 miniutes Its a 2006 Mkll with 72,000 on it Any ideas, and should i be worried??? Cheers Dave
  10. I've just bought the Halfords own brand and yes they were about
  11. I have checked the mini exhaust and there are no loose pipes nor cracks etc I will check again after i have got the car warmed up, and try to find out from which end the smell is coming from
  12. Sorry, where (or what) is the Mini Exhaust connected to???
  13. Hi Thanks for the note Def not washer fluid and no dampness in car Its the same smell as when you walk out across the apron to board a plane I know it is an Aux Heater smell, but its just the stregth of it, way stronger than i have smelled before on this car or my previous Mkll, and now the kids are complaining ;)
  14. Over the last week or so there has been a very very strong smell in the car reminiscent of airline fuel I know the Aux Heater puts out a smell like this when getting hot, but this smell is a lot stronger than normal If i use the car first thing and then leave it all day locked up, the smell is still in the car when i use it in the evening. I havn't been doing many long runs over the last few weeks, so the car has not really got hot (see other thread on Not Much acceleration), do you think this could be a reason for the smell being so strong?? Thanks Dave
  15. Thanks Guys Mine is the Auto version (Tdi) so used the manual shift option when driving the A roads before getting to the motorway Got it up to around 3000 -3500 revs in 4th gear and held that for a mile or so When i got on motorway used the automatic function and managed 80mph for 50 odd miles at about 2800 revs. Don't forget the Auto only has 5 gears so revs are higher than the maual with 6 Anyway havn't had the problem of accelaration again since, so hopefully the "Italian Tune" has helped I will stick a tank of Vpower Diesel in this week and give it another blast Cheeers guys
  16. [ Blimey I didn't realise that a portable air compressor, and a blown fuse could cause so much response Thanks for all the replies, i've certainly learned a bit about Ohms and voltages Cheers
  17. Thanks Mirez Yes i do quite a bit of Town driving but tomorrow have to drive to Chiswick, so its M6, M40 and that will give it a good "blow out" Hopefully this will help
  18. Whilst driving today i went to accelerate, and there was hardly any pick up in speed It did accelerate but very gradually and slowly I've got a 2006 Mkll Gal with 72000 on it I've seen posts here with regards to loss of power and probable causes, turbo vanes, MAF sensor etc and just wondered if my lack of boost could be one of these Oh and the usual happened, turn off engine and then back on, and the problem had gone away
  19. The front fag lighter has a much bigger fuse than the rear ones. Yeah i know Kev 15A in the rear and 25A for the front cigar socket
  20. Checked the compressor and its a 10A rating so to blow a 15A fuse i am assuming there is a spike? I dont keep it in the car, and there is nothing else in there that would interfere with the rear end socket I will change the fuse again at the weekend and see if that does the trick this time Thanks all Dave
  21. Hi Guys Thanks for the replies I did use the correct ampage fuse as stated in the Handbook. For the rear power socket it is a a 15A fuse Number 8 in the central fuse box. It is interesting that the Cigar lighter fuse in the car is a 25A fuse, but it does say in the handbook that this also controls the "Alternator and Controller". The cable on the portable compressor from the cigar lighter adapter to the unit is about 2m (6ft) So with that info do you think it is the cable length that could be blowing the fuse? Cheers
  22. Recently changed the fuse as the rear power socket wasn't working. After this it was fine, and i used it a few times with a small portable compressor to inflate the tyres on the kids bike. Next time i went to use it, there was no life from it again? Any thoughts as to why it has blown a fuse again I have used the same compressor from the front fag lighter socket may times, with no problems at all
  23. Ha Ha just read my title - I suppose it could be a SOCK absorber :)
