  1. Mumble Bee Yesterday i did Telford - Letchworth - Hatfield - Aylesbury - Warwick - Home About 260 miles in total using M6 - M1 - M40 - M5 Plus A Roads (about 75mph average on Motorways, but also lot of crawling through traffic jams) Computer showed me average of 38.3mpg Havn'y yet checked on "local driving", but will post back when i have Regards
  2. Now got the new car, and very pleased with it (06 plate Zetec TDI) DVLA kept to their word, and actually got my tax disk back in 6 working days rather than the 7 quoted :D The 06 plate Galaxy i feel is much improved over even the 52 plate i had before Ride seems a bit stiffer, road noise is less, and even doors shut with a nice thud, rather than a tinny twang Cruise control is great, and i now know the outside temperature, and a small touch but well worth it, is that you get better (and more i think) interior lighting Driving an Automatic again is slightly strange, but as a previous post said, it makes you drive a little more sedately so hopefully mpg will not be too dis similar to the manual (tdi) Hopefully it will serve me well for the next 4 years (till i've paid off the HP )
  3. Major surgery is New Pads and disks (done 2 weeks ago cost of
  4. Ok, after much deliberation i have traded in my 52 plate 1.9 Zetec Manual, for an 06 plate 1.9 Zetec Automatic The frustration now, is that as i have a "cherished" number plate that i wish to transfer to the new car, i have to wait at least 7 working days for the DVLA to process a form :16: The last time i transferred it, i had a wait of 2 hours in the local office, and job was done Hopefully the new car will give me less problems than the old one, which at this moment is on its last legs before major surgery required :16:
  5. As i posted in a previous thread, i am looking to change my 2002 Manual Gal I am unsure whether to go for an Automatic this time, and just wondered what the concencus of opionion was amongst the "knowledgable" :D I have driven automatics before, and quite like them. My driving at the moment covers around 20k per year, across all types of roads (Motorway, A Roads and Minor roads). I will keep the Diesel version as economy is important to me (it will also be the Mkll version and not the "New Galaxy") I don't tow caravans or trailers It will mostly be me driving, but at weekends its 4 to 5 up with family etc Thanks, and i look forward to your comments
  6. OK Good and Bad news Good News Firstly no gears = cable come off underneath, so this has been replaced ;) Bad News Red brake warning light = New Disk pads and new disks required on front  Total price
  7. Thanks for your advice I have this morning had to take it straight into the local Fraud dealer, as the Red Brake warning light started flashing, and the beeper sounded at regular intervals The Handbook suggests this is due to low brake fluid level, and as i believe the clutch and brakes share the same fluid, it is obviously leaking somewhere ;) I'm not hopeful of a "low cost" repair, as i have never had one yet Also decided that now is the time to trade it in (2002 model with 82,000) as i do around 20,000 a year Will stick with the Gal or varient (Sharan, Albrahama) as i do like the car overall, plus the flexibility it offers Will post about the results of the current problem
  8. Not sure if this has been covered before, but had a problem getting car (1.9 TDI Zetec 2002) into gear. Engaged clutch which seemed OK, but gear knob would not get any gear, seemed almost jammed in neutral. I then felt with my left foot, that clutch pedal seemed lower to the floor, so put my foot under it and pushed it up Suddenly gears were all there, and i drove the car to Wales and back (approx 200 miles) with no probs at all. Any thoughts on this, and if say a cylinder problem, costs associtaed :D Thanks
  9. The rear window washer has stopped dispensing water again ;) I lifted the near side internal panel, thinking the pipe had come apart, but no, its all intact Any thoughts as to where the water is going. I can't find any wet patches in the car, or the boot, so assume there is no leak Its the 2002 Mkii Zetec i have Thanks
  10. Sorry forgot to say I have the 1.9TDI Zetec 2002 Gal and its got 75,000 on the clock Cheers
  11. Driving along the A41 today, when suddenly i lost all revs to the engine. The glow plug / engine management curly yellow light came on, and i glided gracefully to a stop on the verge  The engine was still running but on tickover speed only Pressed the throttle pedal, but no increase in engine speed Turned the engine off, waited 10 seconds and started her up again Hey presto, everything back to normal B) Drove another 30 miles to get home with no problems at all A) Should i be worried by this B) Any thoughts on what may have caused it C) How much will frauds charge me if it is a glow plug problem Thanks
  12. i've got a "standard" one from Halfords that has 6 securing straps/hooks in total. 2 top (at top of tailgate), 2 on side and 2 for underneath bumper I find this great, and it can easily hold 2 adult bikes plus one junior bike Can your friend e-mail a photo of the rack, that you can then post on here, so that we can see it? Regards
  13. Hi Alan I don't have a spare fob, only the "thin spare key" that was supplied with the car
  14. Over the last couple of weeks, the remote locking and unlocking of my 2002 TDI Gal, has been very hit and miss Sometimes i can open and unlock with the key fob no problems, and other times it will open but not unlcok and vice versa If i can't use the remote, i can still manually lock/unlock the car using the key I had the battery in the key fob changed at Frauds thinking this was the problem, but nothing has changed Is this a known problem, and if so what is the solution for fixing :) Thanks again Dave
  15. Dave G - your'e right it is the zetec trim When i said the seat is falling apart, i meant the fabric trim had started to rip in places I have looked on e-bay for months and months, and only ever seen mk1 drivers seats Keep them suggestions coming :( Thanks
  16. The drivers seat in my mkii 2002 TDI Gal is basically falling apart, and i would love to be able to replace it The pattern is the mid/dark grey diamond effect (i believe the finis code is 1237328) Anyone know of any decent web sites or scrappies who may stock such an item? Don't fancy paying frauds
  17. If it is your water pump, say goodbye to around
  18. I reported a chip in the screen to Autoglass last Thursday, and they came to my house to do the fix on Sunday at 6.00pm Took the guy 15 mins, and once again said it was valid for as long as i owned the car Good service
  19. LATEST UPDATE First of all thanks to MattJnr for his help yesterday, it is much appreciated. VAG Com is a wonderful tool! Basically as Matt suggested we came to the conclusion that no coolant was reaching the Aux heater, or even any heater! On the way back from Matt to home (25miles) the car overheated 4 times. Each time i had to stop, carefuly open the coolant bottle and let pressure out. It was then good for about another 3 miles before the same happened again I managed to drive it the 8 miles to the Fraud dealer this morning, and explained VAG COM to them :P Just had the call to say yes its definately Water pump, as impellor has fallen off - (Steve you were right) ;) New water pump, cam belt tensioner etc
  20. Matt Thats very knid of you I have no problem in coming over to Stoke If you PM me your contact details i will call you Maybe if possible i could come over tomorrow (sunday) afternoon? Thanks Dave
  21. The Fraud dealer has said the Aux heater unit needs replacing to solve my No Heat in Car problem
  22. Yes he did thanks Suggested maybe water pump, which is also what another post suggested Thanks for your help Regards Dave
  23. Tim Thanks for your thoughts Strange you should say about the water pump, as Bleeno put me in touch with one of his relatives, who is a mechanic at VW (Thank you for that Bleeno) He called me last night, and after telling him the symptoms, he also said it may be the impeller that has broken. The cars done 69,000 so i don't think cam belt is due yet Not much more i can do now i think, so its into Fraud on Friday Will post, to give the conclusion to this story Thanks again
  24. NEW DEVELOPMENT After driving for over half an hour this morning (and the car water temp being at 90c for a good 20 minutes of that) heat started to come through the vents Left the car at work from 2.00pm - 5.30pm When i left work, no heat on the 20 min journey home Do you think this is a thermostat problem, or more serious Thanks
  25. Chris Got your PM, but don't know how to reply to it (bloody technology!) Thanks for your offer I live about 5 mins drive from where he lives, so i could popm round to his house if he's OK with that Thanks again Dave sorry hun..nay allowed to post phone numbers on here..i shall pass it on for you.
