I had this problem on my mark 1 - My nephew who was a Farod apprentice said this was a common failure and said the slip ring which goes under the steering wheel was probably knackered. I bought a new one fitted it and hey presto everything worked again. It tells you how to do it in the Haynes manual. Providing you do nothing stupid it is not too difficult.

Not strictly true - Once the gas level falls below a set minimum the pressure sensor won't allow the compressor clutch to activate.

At my last service I supplied the oil & filter and yet the prats managed to over fill the oil - They put in the whole 5 litres from a can of Millers PD. So I got a syringe and a bit of tubing and spend around an hour (I only had a 5ml syringe!!) sucking the oil out until I had the level correct. It has to come out mumof4 otherwise you will bugger up the Catalyser and that will fail it on the MOT. So get you down to boots and buy the biggest syringe they have and you then need some plastic tubing - you can get that from B&Q etc. Happy sucking!!! :angry:

Add that to the low speeds on wireless and the no doubt soon to be discovered dangers of radio in confined spaces and I am happy to be on my hard wired network. I work from home and my laptop is always picking up other networs and as you say they are unsecured - its basic stuff but the fact is most people havent a clue.

Hmm... Have you cleaned the screen what with all that coffee yet? wouldn't want to upset hubby what with you girlies not understanding the technology etc!. :P Well you could be right I may well be a throw back to Victorian values - but then again maybe I just know which buttons to push!! B) The pain threshold bit - I have read numerous stories of Men having limbs cut off, guts hanging out etc etc etc and still going on to complete the mission , kill the enemy, take that pill box etc - But the most you get from women is "what a hard labour - it took 15 or 20 hours - Or my back aches from all that ironing - Face it - Women are great at what they do - the ones that aren't were probably meant to be men anyway!! :D You just carry on raising the children toting that bail and looking pretty - you know all the things women were made for!. :D I mean that's why women have smaller feet than men - so that they can get closer to the the sink! :D Why do brides wear white -? You think you got problems!!! I just want to be left alone and all I get is drop dead gorgeous women throwing themselves at me - they won't leave me alone. I don't get a minutes peace. Hi Bluesbrother I have the same issue on my wifes Gal (1997 MK1) - could you give me the part numbers of the bits you changed please. I have already replaced the cables but as you say the gearchange works fine but it does all flap about a bit!! Cheers BJ
