This is incorrect, "Captains chairs" are the rear seats fitted to 6-seater models, complete with armrests, etc.

Interestingly the Mark III Galaxy (and S-MAX) have the parking lights and fog lights combined in the same unit. So, when the parking lights are on they look like fog lights (but a lot dimmer of course!). Perhaps this was to assist those drivers who want the appearance but without having to drive "illegally"?

Handbrake On New Galaxy
insider replied to Buncers's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
The manual states that you should press the brake pedal firmly first then apply the handbrake without pressing the release button. It also suggests putting it in gear if parking on a hill. Other than that there's nothing special. -
Retro Fit Cruise Control
insider replied to Saif Rehman's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Read the small print at the end - "PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS ITEM IS NOT A CONVERSION KIT. IT IS A REPLACEMENT PART FOR A VEHICLE THAT ALREADY HAS CRUISE CONTROL FITTED AS STANDARD" You would also need the wiring loom to connect this back to the ECU. I think you can get the stalk and loom with instructions from a VW dealer for about -
Could be the throttle position sensor. Probably best to get the fault codes read which should point you in the right direction.

Whos Problem Is It Really?
insider replied to arryp0tter's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Most of the ancilliaries are not even made by the car manufacturers - they are bought in as complete systems from specialist suppliers. So, it's these suppliers that should take the blame and since the same systems go into many different car manufacturers' models a design fault on a Renault a/c system might also be seen on Ford, VW, Fiat, Nissan, etc., etc. -
It will vary depending on what specification you want and when the factory plans to build that specification. I suspect the Dealer won't really know until the order is placed and even then it might change.

Is the A/C on? The fan usually switches on whenever the A/C is switched on. If so, trying switching the A/C off and see if the fan goes off too.

First fold the seat-back forward using the lever at the base of the seat-back. Then tilt the folded seat forward by pulling the red strap underneath at the rear of the seat. Finally press the horizontal bars together where the remaining catches are located in the floor and lift the seat out. Unfortunately this link only has the manual for the Mark III Galaxy - the OP needs one for a Mark II.

Hissing From Brake Pedal

Leaking servo? -
If they were run flats he could still use it while waiting for the new tyre to be delivered. Albeit at a maximum 50mph.

Faulty temperature switch? How long have you had the car? Perhaps a previous owner shorted the switch together so the fan comes on to hide an underlying overheating problem? If you can give as much detail as possible about the car - engine type, when the problem started, etc. then someone should be able to help more constructively.

The oil pressure switch is just below the intake manifold and above and to the right of the oil filter. However, it's not easy to get at and you'll probably need to remove the driveshaft centre bearing bracket first (2 bolts to the block and 2 to the driveshaft). After unplugging the electrical connector you'll need a 24mm socket, 2 universal joints and 2 long extensions. Good luck! While you have the switch removed it's advisable to check the oil pressure with a suitable gauge. At normal engine temperature it should be 1.6 bar at idle and 3.1 bar at 2000rpm.

Is it the 2.0 TDCi? If so you have the electric-hydraulic PAS and there was a problem with some of the early ones requiring a software update to the module. It would normally show trouble codes on diagnostics but ask them to refer to Technical Service Bulletins 48/2007 and 22/2008.

Servicing Requirements
insider replied to Airrex7's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Essentially the car hasn't changed since 1995 so the service schedule hasn't changed. Also, basically no difference for an auto, actually slightly less work (no need to check the operation of the clutch!) As I said, I was quoted -
Rain Sensors But No Auto Wiper Setting!?
insider replied to croc86's topic in Technical Section (Focus)
I doubt that it would be that simple. You'll probably need a control module and it would then need to be programmed by a Ford Dealer. -
In answer to question 3 it depends what filling equipment is being used. To fill via the high pressure port you must use liquid refrigerant and it's not necessary for the engine to be running. To fill via the low pressure port you must use gaseous refrigerant and run the engine at 1200-1500rpm with the temperature on cold and maximum fan speed. There's no indication that both ports should be used but I suppose there could be equipment out there that connects to both? Also, as pointed out by MrT, your units should be grammes no kilogrammes!

Problem With Hid Install
insider replied to siggenn's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Provided you are replacing the whole headlamp with an approved HID headlamp then it is not illegal: "In summary it is not permitted to convert an existing halogen headlamp unit for use with HID bulbs. The entire headlamp unit must be replaced with one designed and approved for use with HID bulbs and it must be installed in accordance with the rules stated above." From - http://www.dft.gov.uk/pgr/roadsafety/drs/hidheadlamps However, if the kit you have is an approved aftermarket item then I suggest you wouldn't be having the problems you are unless it is faulty. Are you able to return it under warranty? -
Servicing Requirements
insider replied to Airrex7's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
A 2003 model should really have the 6 year (60,000 mile) service: 6yr_60000.pdf Additions to the 5 year (50,000 mile) service are: Renew air filter Renew brake fluid (every 2 years) Check air conditioning (every 3 years) Drain, flush and re-fill coolant (every 6 years for blue/green coolant) -
There isn't a collision speed at which they will activate but a deceleration above a certain level, i.e. it depends how quickly whatever you hit makes you slow down! If you hit a solid object like a brick wall or tree you will stop very quickly even from a low speed and the airbag would probably activate. If you're travelling at 70mph and hit a car in front of you travelling at 60mph they probably wouldn't activate because the deceleration won't be that much. So, it's not the speed you're travelling when you have a collision but how quickly you decelerate that determines whether or not the airbags are activated.

Rain Sensors But No Auto Wiper Setting!?
insider replied to croc86's topic in Technical Section (Focus)
If you have auto wipers then you will also have auto headlamps - check for "AUTO" on the headlamp switch, if not then you don't have them. If you do have them it won't say "AUTO" on the wiper stalk as the auto position is the first (intermittent). You can then adjust the sensitivity of the auto wipers using the ring switch. -
Are you certain that the rain sensor is fitted? I don't think these were ever fitted to a 2003 model. If you have auto wipers then you should also have auto headlamps as the sensor for both is in a combined unit behind the rear view mirror.

The jacking points on the Mark 3 are the same as those used for a vehicle lift so a trolley jack is probably the best option. The jack from a Mark 2 Galaxy is designed to locate over the cill so wouldn't be very safe if used on a Mark 3.
