I bought a new Ford Galaxy TDI 115 manual in February 2005. It has now covered 10,000 miles and had its first service back in February 2006. I've noticed an interesting phenomenon during acceleration. It usually occurs in higher gears (3rd or 4th) from cruising at a constant speed, e.g. 30mph, then suddenly flooring the accelerator. After the short turbo lag the engine seems to surge, then drops back, then surges again and drops back, etc. as though it is oscillating (the accelerator pedal position is unchanged throughout). Is the drop in engine revs caused by the ECU compensating for over-boost? Is this a normal occurrence or does the engine need some fine tuning? I also understand that this vehicle has a dual-mass flywheel. Is it possible that this is not damping the engine oscillations? Should I just get the Dealer to sort it out at the next service?
