Ah - seems a 'grate way to put off new members. I understand why new members have to go through a filter - but it seems, in my opinion, to be too fine.

Outstanding that man Top class forum stuff - Makes me feel glad I pressed for other peoples results too. For all those that cant get their problems resolved here (we aint god-like all the time) please advise us of the possibly expensive result you eventually get elsewhere. It works if we all fiish our threads - you'll be amazed how many newbies come here for a quickie - and disappear without as much as a by your leave. Again - well done and welcome to the forum Littledaz.

Well 65 views and few replies sort of suggest we're stumped on this mate. Apart from checking your earths and pushing the loom about to see if anything makes a contact I have nothing to help other than perhaps the control module was an incompatible one - maybe.
-
Keep us posted then please Jack - my money is on the alternator because we had precisely the same symptoms. But for your sake - if your garage is still looking to the belt tensioner which is a cheaper option, I hope that clears it for you. Sometimes we have little choice but to suck it and see. ATB, Dave.

Kev, thanks for the input. Manufacture's warranty carries through to any new owners up tp 60K or 3 years, as far as I know, providing it has been serviced according to Fords service schedules. which at that time were 10k intervals.
-
I'm referring to the 3 year manufacturers warranty Kev, thanks guys. Looks like its going to be a bit iffy at 23k. Might be better to assume no warranty comes with it and get cheaper non ford servicing at the outset - now how could I discuss that with ford motor co?

Dont ya just lurve it when no-one gives you a result? See here for a similar thread: http://www.fordgalaxy.org.uk/ford/index.ph...p;hl=alternator

Vag Com Guy's - Can It Be Used
Dave-G replied to Dave-G's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Conclusion - sweet! They fitted a nice shiny new one from Ford after I pointed out that it may need to be a special one for the C/A battery type used. Total cost to me -
Thats a pretty good price mate - its expensive stuff and just aint nuthin compared to the cost of a reco box. I was quoted
-
Agree - it sounds like the unimpressive garage left it off. One from either mk1 or mk2 diesel will fit, so get yaself along to a scrappy - you have had a warning about how dodgy it is to leave it off.
-
good game - good game now i want one of them ford badges too - so how do i get it guys

I've been offered an 05/05 galaxy at a fair price to change by a car supermarket. Its done nearly 22k miles but has no record of a 20k service. IF I buy it - and do say 1k miles while waiting to get it in to a ford garage, is my warranty going to be affected? I know the service interval rose to 24k for cars registered in 06.

mine is december 01 build - with a 3 point centre belt.

Vag Com Guy's - Can It Be Used
Dave-G replied to Dave-G's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Warraty Direct allegedly wont allow their authorised repairers (nationwide autocentres) to fit genuine ford parts unless absolutely needed. They will be fitting a reco unit, which I dont have a problem with, and will remove the original for type/compatibility service exchange. Is this C/A battery car likely to need a specific type of alternator anyone? -
Vag Com Guy's - Can It Be Used
Dave-G replied to Dave-G's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Well I stopped in at the local ford garage this morning - one look under the bonnet with a little listen and "have you had an alternator workshop warning?" yep - then it's the alternator sir, does the steering shudder on tick over - yep... definate alternator then. Now where's that warranty direct number.. AGAIN  -
Very well done mate. There are unlikely to be many men weaker willed than me when it comes to addictions - but I stopped 3 years ago - and spent the savings on hire purchase of my Galaxy. You are over the worst now.

Vag Com Guy's - Can It Be Used

Any other replies please? -
my car is making the seemingly famous "accessory tensioner rattle" noise at the usual idle speed of about 800 rpm. looking closely at the rev counter - assuming it's reasonably accurate, I see that rattle dissappears at just below 900 RPM - with smooth steering too. So.... Can Vag Com be used to up the idle speed to 900 rpm - and would it stay there even if the battery is disconnected at some future time to reset the ecu etc?
-
OMG - the edit dont work... grovels profusely
-
Did you resolve this snikkers? tried to PM you but it dont work... probably forum probelems again... was ok before glen got bored and started playing
-
It seems the tensioner will fluctuate when load is placed on a component using the accessory belt. When there is no fault (someone try this please and report)... with the engine at idle, have someone turn on your AC while you watch the tensioner. it will start to "resonate" untill you turn off the AC or increase engine to 1000 rpm. likewise it will do this as you adjust your steering wheel and use the power steering pump. I dont recall any 'idle-up' device being active on the galaxy - like wot I ad on my mondeo. I would guess that bearing failure in the alternator is putting a heavier drag on the belt.

Power Steering Pump Gone?

I did'nt want to hijack the others with it being about power steering
