  1. Wrong sensor my ansome... It IS near the wipers... look for it in front of the pollen filter. It it is held in a plastic clip below the ventilating air-intake grill
  2. You need to undo them "screw thingy's" you asked about earlier... They are cleverly disguised as nuts that can be undone by hand
  3. I personally dont beleive the "so efficient it dont produce waste heat" theory more like: for some reason we don't know, the cabin heater matrix cant be supplied with hot water untill the engine coolant thermostat opens.
  4. Hur... well I spose you berra go for it girl. :( Just be ready for the "I told you" posts
  5. Treat the "screws" as nuts, pressed out of plate. My sisters Gal had one of the components behind it fail... and yes the symptoms were loss of power. It could be 'reset by doing a restart - only to fail again a short while later. I don't know which one it was. That work was beyond me - as I have no ideer how to test the components lurking in that unreachable dark abyss. Maybe you have tiny hands? It was left to a garage to repair... they tried one at a time, and got it right the second time, after she aborted her return to cornwall after 50 odd miles. I also draw your attention to another one of my recent posts, anticipating a reply from you MO4 :(
  6. According to the VW parts software which the guy showed me, the fluid he supplied was correct. The other fluid was for a 4 speed box. Both for a Sharan. Hmm - I put half a litre of the fluid in the gearbox and it's made no difference. I guess the gearboxes would have some differences between a TDI and a VR6. I have found some signs of fluid in the undertray in the past and guessed it would be ATF. I'll get to do a full test drive later.
  7. :( Erm... o-yea, thanks :( Now I understood that the filler cap would be mission impossible to locate from the above the engine compartment - Soooo, could someone just confirm that this little feller, sitting at a reasonably easy location is in fact the correct filler cap? The cap with a red retainer in the centre - highlighted by torchlight :)
  8. Thanks Nik, do you know the number for 1 ltr please?
  9. I gave the missis pretty good detail about the car on a chit to nip into a VW dealership... Gal/sharan 5 gear autobox, Dec 01 build, 115 bhp. 1 litre of atf + filler cap/clip/snap ring. Came to
  10. Oops - maybe she's too mad to answer
  11. And your'e seriously contemplating this MO4? I know this might sound a bit of a red rag to a bull but.... PUH-LEASE DON'T DO IT - I'm not being rude: there are some places wimin just aint meant to go... Especially them that dont know how to describe faults, understand general workshop procedures or computers. In the best possible way, you are not ready for it... Nor am I FWIW
  12. Disapointed but not surprised really al, rather like what would be their response to mine. The auto's on many modern motors have soooooo many sensors that are not covered.
  13. Hmm - they suggest a possible fix would be replace fluid (using dextron 2) and an additive called lube gard. I seem to recall something about dextron being the wrong fluid, but they say they do loads of Galaxy's with it :D No fault codes were found at start up.
  14. Any news on that warranty claim bigal? I've noted just how little of an autobox they cover - for example: none of the valves or electronic components
  15. Sounds like a duff battery to me mate
  16. They need to verify who you are and that you are not using a stolen credit card - or it's cloned details. In addition, if you wish to set up a sellers account, they have to know what account to debit when you spend money, and where to send any money you choose to withdraw when you start selling. It therefore follows that they (paypal-which is owned by ebay) will need details of your accounts. This is done by debiting a token amount from your credit card, you then get your banks statement showing that debit which is accompanied by a series of numbers which you need to activate your paypal account. The end result is that you will have "proved" you are the account holder. There is also a money laundering issue at stake so they MUST know exactly who you are, once you have recieved
  17. Huh! The auto specialist is some 12 miles away, and the gearbox had warmed up to working temperature Could not fault it on the test drive  I've arranged to leave it there tonight for a cold test drive & diagnostic.
  18. Thanks nik - so I can't really check it myself... don't feel qualified to dismantle a gearbox :D I'll be taking it to an auto specialist on monday for their ideas. I have warranty direct to fall back on :D
  19. S'all right I have been mentally scarred by changing the clutch on a hillman superminx - lying on a sloping drive with melting slush running down my neck with the gearbox laid on my chest whilst trying to get some bolts back in - twice - now that must date me :D :D :D S'all right I have been mentally scarred by changing the clutch on a hillman superminx - lying on a sloping drive with melting slush running down my neck with the gearbox laid on my chest whilst trying to get some bolts back in - twice - now that must date me :D :D :D A Superminx hey?........ I remember those but I was only little .... Here's one for you...... My uncle had a Sunbeam Rapier ...weren't they similar to the Hillman Minx? Bin there - done it with a Rapier/Holbay tuned engine :D
  20. Well done that man - every time you do any fluid top ups, just change the laggie's too :D
  21. Could anyone locate this sensor for me please? other fault codes found: 01166 engine torque signal, signal outside specifications - intermittent. 00652 Gear monitoring: implausible signal intermittent. The Auto box is a bit erratic of late - mostly when cold... so I feel it best to try the auto fluid temp sensor first? Engine code is AUY if that helps.
  22. Wrap some laggy bands around the ball joint assembly man - wassup wi ya :D
  23. To check if the clutch is slipping: Apply handbrake VERY VERY VERY firmly - engage first gear and slowly let out clutch, especially slow at the bite point. If the egine keeps running - albeit slowly it is the clutch. expect it to stink a bit too. Do not do it on a sustained basis.
  24. One evening a police officer was staking out a particularly rowdy pub in order to catch potential drunk drivers. At closing time, he saw a man come stumbling out of the pub, sway across the street and try his keys on five different cars before he found his own. He sat in the front seat fumbling around with his keys for several minutes. Everyone else came out gradually and drove off. Finally the man started his engine and began to drive off. The police officer, waiting for the man the whole time, stopped the driver, read him his rights and administered a breathalyzer test. The results showed a reading of 0.0. The puzzled officer demanded to know how this was possible. The driver replied... "Tonight I'm the designated decoy."
