Noticed my steering went "gritty" as I tried to manouvre alongside a kerb - now the tensioner whips about rather a lot making a worrying noise. Looked at a buddies tensioner... no wobble till the AC is started up - then it "wobbles" by about 10mm of travel on idle speed rpm. Up the RPM to 1000 - his (and my) tensioner runs smoothly. Point is that the power steering also feels smooth once the engine gets about 1000 rpm. Seems this is 3 threads on the tensioner topic at the mo - but this one differs with the power steering element.

http://www.fordgalaxy.org.uk/ford/index.ph...topic=10552&hl= There is a known intermittent fault with a soft gear change monitor within the valving assembly which is inside the gearbox. If it is only doing it after freewheeling it may be something less expensive. Well worth the expense of going to a REPUTABLE autobox specialist for a test drive and a chat. Ask your main dealer which auto specialist they use - Ford dont work on them, only fit or replace them.

There's a quick reply innit? Thanks andrew - much as I thought, but it was quite green while I couln't start it. I Force the wife to go out in the freezing cold to vacuum it and windowlene the windows once a week regardless of the weather - bet she left a door open on purpose after she'd finished  Just to clarify the door open bit..... If she closes the doors in the winter the windows steam up while she dutyfully polishes them so I tell her she MUST leave the doors open - icy or otherwise  -
Charged it up with an ordinary car charger for 2 hours and it started ok so I left it on charge for several hours - no problem since. Out of curiosity there is a green inspection window or led/lamp/lense type thing on the top - anyone know what that is? there is text next to it saying words to the effect of check manual - but there is nowt of use on that subject in the manual? Also - it has two covers that appear to have tamper evident labels over them - can they be removed to check and top up the water please? I know they're supposed to be maintenance free - but could it be the makers dont really want us to prolong their life?

I've got a new game - that can also be played with participating players in some of the other sections :(

That sounds solid reasoning John, thanks for the honesty. I sometimes wonder how main dealers can justify the mediocre trade in price against the new car that is priced like it's really wonderfull - till you want to trade that in... All the best with the Disco mate

ERM: Greenfingers... If you change the temp settings the fans start up soon after the sensors indicate a need to adjust the required temp that you asked for

I suspect It's the height alignment servo. . Mine wont travel full high or low anymore - so I leave it midway :) -
