  1. hi many thanks for that very informative reply. ill have a good check on the unit see if thats whats going on. as it happens when i did the plug i did notice that it must have been along time since it had worked as there was no carbon in the exhaust just oxidised ali, so no doubt that the rest of the unit has this inside. ill rip it off when i get a chance and give it a good going over once ive got hold of the gaskets for it.
  2. belt had slipped taking out 4 valves, only thing not original is cam and springs all else brand new. timed up spot on basic and timed with vag com spot on dead on the middle line. no faults shown its transit noisey from tickover upwards
  3. done that have got the exhaust removed, had an airline into it but still no joy. im not sure but its if there was too much fuel going into it
  4. nah not bothered about hearing wife or kids just nice to hear myself talk. drives you nuts when your tootling about and its all engine noise
  5. sick of this sharan how vedub could make a car with so many faults is beyond me, anyhow thats off my chest. sorted all the head out new valves etc, fired up and boy is it niosey so out with vag com and done the dynamic timing which is just over the middle line to help starting but its still noisey as in its like a heavy noise as opposed to a quite noise what i was used to in my xantia td. I know tdi's are more noisey thann norm td but stood next to a one in street other day same engine but year older and it was half as noisey as mine. it intrudes into the car as such at 60mph you cant have a normal converstion without realy raising the voice. so then any thoughts what is going on with it im sure something is just not right but it starts first time wouldnt say its as pokey as any other diesel car ive drove but all those were just td's. noticed its got a slight flat spot 1500-2000rpm and no faults have shown on vagcom . anybody have suggestions before a sell it and buy a van to drive about (backs gone so cant get in our out of a car)
  6. the saga goes on. d3wz heater with new uprated plug. repaired the pump wiring and it tries to start up, fan starts going and winds up, white smoke starts to come out along with drips of diesel and so it goes on in cycles but never fires up proper. thought well give it a chance but 3 days on and its still doing it. any thoughts why its doing this and has anyone else had the fault the same.

ITS ALIVE sorted it out at long last. wire was off the pump and just enough to soler onto. i rekon this has been dead for a long time as there was no carbon at all in pump, now just gotta wait till it fires up proper and get rid off the fuel i pumped in to it when checking it . moral is check the pump first if it doesnt work
  8. 99 tdi afn on the bulkhead theres a vacuem thingy i believe is N75 the right hand side unit, when stopping engine it makes a horrific noise that lasts for approx 1.5 mins, is this normal or is it faulty as im still in limp mode till i get rid of some faults as below 4 Faults Found: 00626 - Glow Plug Indicator Light (K29) 31-10 - Open or Short to Ground - Intermittent 00553 - Mass Air Flow Sensor (G70) 31-10 - Open or Short to Ground - Intermittent 01262 - Solenoid Valve for Boost Pressure Control (N75) 31-00 - Open or Short to Ground 00519 - Intake Manifold Pressure Sensor (G71) 28-10 - Short to B+ - Intermittent not sure whats going on but my glow light is working and these were cleared and all came back.
  9. hi all 1999 1.9tdi 110hp. got stuck into my aux heater cleaned it all up and fitted new spec glowplug started car and and nowt so what is it. i noticed some air bubbles in the fuel feedpipe so using a syringe i primed the heater thinking if theres diesel it should fir up but still nothing. checked all the supplys, shorted out the temp sensor and its saying no no no im not working (got to make jokes as its covered so much its a laugh). so what is actually monitered by the heater oes it include the pump by chance or is it something else ive missed. vag com does not talk to the mk1 heaters as the diagnostic wire doesnt seem to go anywhere tho tis says it should. any help please

  11. hi all thought i'd start a list of prices for these glow plugs' thers 3 types with wires and without the ones below are with out. type 1 is beru 0100226228 type 2 is beru 0100226340 guy from vw says they only have one listed which is type 1 Ford
  12. don't even think about swaping engines from another ford unless its a 2l galaxy. the old scorpio was the same engine in 8v guise but dont fit as well as the gearbox must be a vw vtx75. i got a gal 2l thinking ill deisel it up and once i read into it and done all the checking up about it i changed my mind pronto. your engine has tons of life left in it i sold mine with 200k on clock and all it needed was a set of hydraulic tappets in her. one thing i did find was to use 15w40 semi synthetic oil it ran much better.

  15. hi all and a happy xmas. got my car back on xmas eve (sharan 1.9tdi 110 afn) and its all running now but using vag com this error code keeps coming up, soon as i clear it it comes back instantly. 00550. Injection Start Control im at a loss what it is and how to cure it so any thoughts tips on what it is please
  16. hi i had same proplem and done the same as you, it turned out to be low oil pressure. does it go away at 2000rpm if so u need to change the oil pressure relief valve spring or in my case i stuck a washer behind it
  17. well heres the list all because the belt was slack 8 new valves only 5 where bent tho 8 new lifters as 3 where damaged timing belt kit new gaskets oil, filters, anti freeze etc the total job costing
  18. hi all my sharan 1.9tdi is getting its top end done but i noticed that the rear heater looked different to my galaxy one tho all controls the same in car, its got air con manual control. seems as tho theres a long ally looking pipe coming off it so would this be the infamous heater thats on here always causing grief with glow plugs. also bit daft question as theres not one mention of this in handbook. if its the deisel htr i summize that it takes its supply from main tank but how much fuel does it use ie: litres per hour. my old gal had normal pipes running from engine cooling system and i cant get to the car to check out what ive got. being thinking about this for a few days having read all the posts on here about them many thanks

  21. well i got stuck into car and had a look at belt and found i could lift belt off cam sprocket so somethings amiss there methinks its the tensioner. anyhow off came the rocker cover and checking the cam noticed that 4 hydraulic tappets looked odd looking further and checking with other ones i could move the "high" ones feeling spring pressure wheras the low ones wouldnt budge so its bent valves, now its just a case of the god zorg is smiling and that ive no holes in the pistons. will keep you updated

  23. does the sharan share the same head with any other vw deisel engine ie: golf, passet etc as scrappy near me av a few vw engines in i can get a head for cheap
  24. hi all. well the old 2l gal went and ive took a chance on a 99 s plate 1.9tdi 110. ive bought it as a non starter and done all the checks with vag-com all seems well with that, immobiliser is ok light goes off and stays off. the cam belt is ok and noticed that the engine seems to turn over fast and smoke coming out of air intake pipe which smells like diesel smoke, i think that the timing belt has slipped but want to know if its possible for the valves to be bent
