  1. OO Mark the pie of course I hadn't given Sammy a thought!!
  2. Cor I fancy some of that!! why is it always the other end of the country can you post a picture Mark so I can lick the screen LOL
  3. Hi Leon Where does the other end of that pipe go to? wondering if thats been disconected to compensate for the IAC seem to think they are spring loaded a bit like the EGR valve. I will have a look see if I can find any pics of the pipework
  4. Hi Have never known an idle control valve to cause that, it usually has a lumpy slow tick over or just cuts out or stalls when you pull away. Most likely to be vacuum leak from numerous pipes around intake manifold. Throttle position sensor can cause this but not sure its on this model.
  5. Hi again has been known to be a swimming pool under the passenger seat doesn't do that module much good if its got wet
  6. Hi Mark and welcome to the site Think you will need to invest in a VAG-COM lead then you can diagnose most of the faults yourself. Also check out the FAQ section there is a link below good luck http://www.fordgalaxy.org.uk/ford/index.php?showtopic=7886
  7. Hi Have you checked fuses? number 32 for the clock and 19, 22, 33
  8. That looks good value i'll put one on me shopping list
  9. Ah thats what it does that was fast!! wish I was as clever as you
  10. what does the fast reply button do!!
  11. Hi As i said before IAC only controls idle speed, if you have a vacuum leak which could be a split or perished hose or inlet manifold gasket will give a high tick over speed, you need to look very closely at these pipes as some are very difficult to see, also the brake servo diapragm could be leaking with no noticable affect to braking.
  12. I know it's a pain but take manifold off and heat up the flange, and as said soak with penetrating oil more chance of getting it out without snapping it again, and if it does snap you have already got it off to drill out.
  13. I have said this so many times before and don't get an answer to this procedure!!!!! TRY THIS FROM COLD. MAKE SURE WATER LEVEL IS ON MAXIMUM LEAVE CAP OFF RUN ENGINE ON TICK OVER OBSERVING WATER BOTTLE, IF YOU SEE AIR BUBBLES IN THE WATER OR THE WATER STARTS SPEWING OVER THEN YOU HAVE 95% HEAD GASKET/CRACKED HEAD/POROUS HEAD OR WORST CASE CRACKED/POROUS BLOCK. THIS CHECKING PROCEDURE WILL COVER A VARIETY OF ENGINES NOT JUST GALAXY'S
  14. Hi Auxilary water pump or run on pump as most people call it is there to aid water circulation through the rear compartment, and booster heater on TDI models, it then runs on for about 5 to 10 mins after engine is switched off to stop hot spots. There are no water valves in the heater system, temp is controlled by air doors in the heater assemblies. Aircon whether working or not will not affect engine cooling only thing I would say is to check radiator cooling fans are still working if aircon is not. Water will not circulate properly in any vehicle if air is being introduced in the system!! I think you'll find head gaskets and cracked or porous heads are quite common on any diesel engine. Haynes only cover MK 1 Galaxy. Booster heater common problems are either bad smoking or not working at all, remedy is most often glow plug fault, lock out caused by 5 simultaneous overheats or flame failures which will need clearing with vagcom, the overheat is usually caused by the run on pump not working.
  15. Andy, You don't happen to be part of that company do you ? As all of your posts seem to promote them ? Yeah just think if he put it in his sig he wouldn't have to keep typing it out, LOL+ :16:
  16. Hi Paul welcome to the site Usually a dodgy idle control valve causes a slow unstable tick over or engine keeps cutting out. Plugs and/or leads can cause misfires, check all vacuum hoses for splits and perishing there are a lot of them. Also check throttle cable and butterfly vavle
  17. Hi there I would be very surprised if you get away without changing Alternator in the long term, as Big Kev said sounds like alternator has become disconnected or bad connection, quickest way to kill an alternator :(
  18. Hi and welcome to the site As you have only just bought it may be the engine at least needs a service ie, plugs maybe plug leads, air filter, fuel filter. not necessarily a petrol problem.
  19. Hi and welcome You could possibly have some broken wiring on drivers door to pillar trunking
  20. What year is the galaxy, the new shape 56 plate onwards, you do the following. press the brake pedal down and hold and the press the accelerator pedal as faw to the floor as you can, switch on ignition, hold both pedals down for i 10 seconds at least and the message comes up, service reset. Hi there and welcome Wow thats a new way of resetting the service indicator :(
  21. Hi under the dash in the line of your right leg and throttle pedal not inside the pull down flap
  22. Hi again Have enclosed a picture of the transmission cooler its located on top toward the rear of the Gearbox. Whats worrying here is if waters got in the gearbox. This is what I would do, remove the two coolant pipes from the cooler join them together with a piece of tube , top up the water reservoir and then clean around cooler pipe connections take the car for a short drive, check where you have cleaned has anything come out of cooler connections? the cooler is removed by removing the single bolt in the middle Engine radiator and hoses can be flushed out you may want to use a radiator flush additive to get oil out of cooling system. There are procedures in the FAQ section for checking and draining fluid if water has got in the box you will have problems getting it out because of design you cannot drain all the fluid as the torque converter holds about 2.5 litres
