  2. Hi there Am guessing you wont be doing the job yourself so your biggest expense will be the labour charge. A rough guide to the price of; Cylinder head gasket

  5. Hi The air con system fitted on these vehicles unfortunately suffer from corroded/leaky pipe work and leaky drier receiver, if all the gas has leaked away a three way pressure switch will disable the compressor preventing damage to it. I personally recommend you use a mobile specialist who will come to you and do a full check on the system before replacing the expensive gas. The Quick pop in places are OK providing you dont have any leaks or electrical/mechanical problems. If you have the climatronic control then the system should be on when AUTO is displayed and off when ECON displayed, if you have manual controls there is an AC switch below the three circular knobs this also lights up when on.
  6. I would advise you let a specialist check it over for you, you have no idea how much gas is present in your system, overfilling can cause damage more to the system than not having enough.
  7. Hi there and welcome to the forum Not heard or seen anything around the gearbox but the MK2 PD engines have a foam type sound deadening foam fitted around the cylinder head then the plastic cover fits over the top which also has sound proofing on it's underside.
  8. I think you need to check/change temperature sensor as Cyborg has already suggested.
  9. If by signs of gasket failure you mean oil in water or water in the oil, that doesn't normally happen on these engines. What does happen is the high compression pressure passes into the water jacket pumping air and combustion gases into the cooling system. Problem now being because it's been left so long and the constant overheating/boiling up and I'm guessing being run on plain water will have caused corrosion and sediment deposits and possible cracks and corrosion on cylinder head.
  10. Hi there look under lower edge of dash not in but under fuse box flap (purple colour socket)
  11. Hi there I think you can safely say you have at least a blown head gasket, as it's been left that long you may even have more problems but you wont know till the heads off.

  20. Hi and welcome to the forum Which fuse(s) are you refering to some are bolted in others are blade type.
  21. Hi and welcome to the forum Is the broken peice inside the gearbox casing? It may be possible to tap it out by removing O/S driveshaft depends on access around differential pinion shaft.
  22. The high/low pressure switch will prevent the compressor running as you will have no gas pressure present this will prevent damage being done. If you have had the system open to atmosphere for some time you will need to change the receiver/drier your aircon specialist will advise you on this plus the fact that the drier is the part thats prone to leaking.
  23. Took the grommet out to make the holes then refit, for easier access remove bulkhead extension plate (3 bolts) and the glove box
