  1. Hi and welcome to the forum Book says under front passenger seat
  2. Hi Andy Thats a brilliant how to mate, well done ;) that should help a lot of members out there, I'm sure the admin/mod team will put it in the FAQ section for you.
  3. Check out the ends of large vacuum pipe to brake servo, the pipe may be split where it connects, this can also effect engine performance.
  4. First of all no one will mind you asking questions thats what the forum is for  The car looks good only thing I would say is check the history carefully as all the petrol variants have a timing chain not cambelt as in the description.
  5. Hi there and welcome to the forum You may get more replies if you post in the MK3 section, however have read similar posts of erratic engine behaviour and talk of software updates. Im sure some MK3 members will give you more detailed advice, be patient
  6. Hi and welcome to the forum Yes good possibility CV joints/driveshafts or worn suspension bushes, track rod ends, wheel bearings.
  7. Can you elaborate more on the glow plugs IE, engine not starting glow plug light staying on flashing or not working at all
  8. OH CRAP does that mean your comming back as admin again maz,THERE GOES THE FORUM again...........................:P:lol::lol: oh when you start tweaking the forum glen, give us some warning, that way ill start using the pic site. Ah ha feel like a forum holiday coming on  Down your way this Saturday Greg, at the Grand Hotel for a wedding reception.
  9. Welcome to the forum
  10. Hi and welcome to the forum The 2.8 very powerfull but likes petrol stations to much, although not particuly high mileage auto boxes can be expensive to repair check for erratic gear changes clunks/noises. The seats are very strong but they are very heavy, you may need someone to help you with these, lifting in and out.
  11. Hi Andy The large brake servo pipe with the two connections. The MK2 also has this but one is blanked off with a rubber cap (blanking plug) could be the same for yours. I suppose it could be used as a test point for use with a vacuum gauge but not seen any reference to it. Incidently the blanking plug on mine fell to pieces where it had rubbed against another pipe, I just used a short length of hose with a small bolt in the end to blank it off.
  12. Just to add always apply the footbrake hard when applying handbrake as this will assist maximum handbrake pressure.
  13. Hi Andy/Nigel Would be a good idea if one of you can do a few photo's and a short description as this seems a popular ongoing topic, and may help other members looking at the instructions and diagram from what I posted doesn't give a clear view of the ECU fastenings or the internal view of the ECU. Chris
  14. Thats two days running you been on here now ;) perhaps other members dont know who you are? and what you do, as you are very rarly on here to answer any problems with the site. However have donated ;) Chris
  15. Hi and welcome to the forum Can I ask you have you just bought the car with this problem? or has the car just suddenly decided not to start? Try this, turn ignition on without starting engine, do you hear a funny squelch type noise from under the car? it only lasts a moment so listen carefully. If you don't hear anything then the electric intank pump probably isnt working, also check what the LED on the drivers door does when you start engine.
  16. Hi Nigel Hope this helps you and anyone else removing engine ecu (PCM)
  17. Hi and welcome to the forum Fuse values are all listed in the vehicle handbook, do you need to know any in particular.
  18. I had both my front seats out and replaced without any problems, you should make sure the plugs are properly connected then check with Vagcom for any faults stored, be warned disconnect battery and wait half an hour before messing with wiring as you could deploy airbag system.
  19. Don't forget the short hose inside the ECU
  20. Hi Andy The one behind the servo/pedals area could be the turbo pressure supply pipe this would connect straight to the inlet manifold from the engine ECU. The plastic pipe on passenger side sounds like the supply from the screen washer bottle to the tail gate, this runs along passenger side floor
  21. Are you saying the brake servo has more than the large single pipe going to the vacuum pump? and the other pipe going through bulkhead into car (throttle pedal area) to the engine ECU
  22. Hi Yes the MK2 is below 10 deg c the pic that Seatkid posted is the correct location but it's not normally hanging, it's in a plastic clip attached to the wiper linkage, so you need to remove the scuttle tray to access it, it will not be visible you will have to feel for it which is why you missed it before. Don't bother putting sensor in ice just unplug it and bridge the two terminals of the plug with a short length of wire, this will ensure the heater fires up and stays running while testing for correct running. The odd flame out for what ever reason will not stop an attempt to start but five sucessive flame outs will cause a lock out and will need to be cleared before further attempts to start. You also need to check the electric run on pump is working, this is located behind the fuel filter on the bulkhead, you should be able to hear it humming after turning off engine, if you cant hear it then it's probably not working. Coolant sensor wont affect cold start of heater but may interrupt a warm/hot start. If aircon is set to auto then cooling fans will run regardless of engine temperature. See how you get on, there's lots of info on cleaning and changing glow plug on booster heater in the FAQ's also changing brushes on run on pump. Or of course just ask
