  1. Mine is also missing a bolt on each wheel... and they've ruined the thread removing the old locking wheel bolts ;)
  2. That's why I'm taking it to a garage ;) I'll let them battle it out ;) when I got home my wife said she told them it was the REAR bearing... grrrr, I bet it's going to be more than 1 hour now.
  3. To get a wheel bearing replaced? I called a local ford dealer...
  4. No, you are not alone others have noticed his naughtiness. ;) Top Tip: Open your drivers door to stop the alarm going off ;) I have to replace both rear switches ;)
  5. Sorry I still haven't installed EKTA, so can't do the parts numbers comparisons yet. http://www.vwsonline.co.uk/car_parts_bristol/ Have a browse on their site, I'm sure I found the pulley cheaper with them than VW, I paid
  6. I just called VW Oxford Iffley Road to order the part 7M3 145 846 A for a whopping....
  7. Isn't the MOT to rev till 3000rpm three times to check for excessive black smoke? I've not heard of a car being rev'd to 4500rpm for an MOT as that's pretty much red lining the TDI's.
  8. Some info on the 2.0L GLX MK1 oh and I think I've found one... might be in Polish though :D http://chomikuj.pl/majewskad?fid=250168624 It is in Polish and a MK1 :D BTW append your Google search results with filetype:pdf or filetype:doc etc for different files types ;) FORD_GALAXY_2.0I_GLX_R9555.pdf
  9. I know how it feels with 3 kids, fortunately I can leave them inside with the wifey while I go outside to look at the car :) Oh, I also got my car in January and it's been doing this since, in the last 2 weeks it's got a lot worse so I had to do it. BTW, 2 years ago I couldn't even drive - let alone work on one, but I've refused to pay garage rate @
  10. Have you tried filling it up, run it for 20 mins around town, check it again? My first thought would be partly clogged fuel lines if it is still half full after a run, but hey I'm no mechanic just my thoughts.
  11. Thanks, that saved me looking it up :)
  12. What was the part number for the alternator? I've got to install EKTA again as vagcat is no longer working, so could look up the pulley part number (there were 3 alternators, and thus 3 pulleys), the pulleys are about
  13. tbh, you should pay for the full version that comes with the original lead - it will work straight out the box on Windows 7/Vista/XP... but you can buy any KKL vag com lead from ebay, just make sure the seller has good feedback and don't go for the cheapest as people usually have problems with them.
  14. Mine is making a metallic tapping noise... I'll have to look at mine. Fingers crossed it is and it's not from working on the car yesterday.
  15. Finally got round to trying this again, I pry'd the 143k miles welded alternator off with a mixture of tools, from a Super spanner jobbie to a normal spanner and a ratchet - no smacking with a hammer :( We couldn't get the pulley off, so I called a local garage and he said bring the alt down and he'll see what he can do. We both tried for about 30mins to crack it free, he even gave it some heat with a gas torch, but didn't let it glow red as I didn't want the alt fubar'd. it was both of us strapping lads pulling and pushing - it did not budge. He said he can heat it up till it glows and the pulley will probably come off, but this may ruin the alternator. His next suggestion was spray a load of penetrating oil in the splined shaft and to leave it a few days then try it again - well I had only a few hours as I was not in my home town and needed to get the kids home too so when I got back the Outlaws we left it for an hour or so while we had a cuppa. We took another crack and couldn't budge it, my father in law then took it upon himself to start smacking the 17mm spanner near the base of the shaft to 'free' it up... This only bloody worked! :16: But we found a load of string coiled up behind the old pulley... eh?! Getting the alternator back on was another story, I eventually took to it with a sanding pad adapter on a drill to remove a little meat from the bracket as it was impossible to get back on. This worked a treat! So now I have no more creaky steering, oh what joy it is! I still expect it to make the noise, so still drive like I did to avoid the noise :16: I now have a load of photo's so at some point soon I'll write up a guide and post it back on this thread :)
  16. I'd take the dealer up on that offer! But I have 2 alternatives to get to work if it went in for repairs
  17. I really wouldn't go posting your number on a public forum, best to say PM me your number if you think you can help and I'll call you etc etc
  18. A strut brace would also reduce body roll, not sure if they do them for the Galaxy - I haven't found any but it doesn't mean they don't. The Eibach kit for the Sharan lowers it 30mm, the Alhambra is a bit confusing as I don't speak German and Google Chrome's translate doesn't tell me what VA and HA are :D It lists 30mm in one column and 20mm-25mm in another... http://performance-suspension.eibach.de/cm...rformance_guide one being VA the other being HA ;) It's too early too look up the meanings and I've got a car show to attend shortly :D
  19. My Ghia only has the rotating front seats... I feel cheated now!
  20. Gah, Halfrauds charged me
  21. Do the Sharan, Galaxy and Alhambra have different suspension then? :D Or were there different sets of suspension for different 'class' models?
  22. http://i272.photobucket.com/albums/jj183/jayton82/GrammarPolice.jpg http://i272.photobucket.com/albums/jj183/jayton82/633690429598782760-SPELLINGPOLICE.jpg :) u gt it n al forims, nuffink knew.
  23. Anyone want to borrow my special tool (ohhh eeerrrr missus), feel free to pay for the postage to and from :)
  24. Do as Chris says and check the timing belt tension. I wouldn't worry too much about the bubbles in the fuel line. My GTD had them when I was investigating sudden power loss problems and I was told diesels don't like air in the fuel lines... turns out VW engines cope well with the air and bleed it out. It even cost me a few hours extra labour as I told the mechanic's about the air being the possible cause... turned out to be a loose cable shutting down the fuel pump randomly :) Do you have access to VAGCOM to check for any errors?
