  1. Righto, got the piston wound in and the pads on and capiler bolted in and sliding pin moving again... Now when we released the bleed nipple, it was really grotty so took it out to clean it up... now it just turns round and round and it only has a few threads still showing. Is there any way to get it back in or is it time for a new nipple? :D Or is it all the way in now and am I just being paranoid?
  2. That worked a treat! Thank goodness it was a nice day :D It was still VERY tight and required my brother in law (BIG guy) and myself to wind it back in even further. Got another problem though, I'll update my other thread to keep this one on topic.
  3. Cheers for that, we tried my breaker bar with 19mm socket on the end and it didn't budge :( I'll try your method before removing the caliper :D
  4. So just connect the bleed nipple up with the hose in a tub of brake fluid? I was going to do that but it started raining after I got the caliper & pads off and the fluid would have got contaminated :D So I undone the cap on the reservoir and turn the piston back in... and got stuck :( If I can get back to where I had to leave the car either tomorrow or Monday (The inlaws, about 7miles away) I'll try that.
  5. I think Laser's tool number is 1314, I got mine for about
  6. Well bugger me, It started looking so promising then the rewind tool wouldn't fit in the caliper so I took off the 2 nobs from the other side and it fitted in OK. THEN I started winding the piston in and it got so far and wouldn't go any further... so I thought well that's all the way in let's get the tool out... didn't want to come out :D tried for ages to get it out... no luck :( It got to around 4pm so I called a mobile mechanic out, he couldn't get it undone either, he suggested taking the caliper off and taking it down to a garage to get the tool out. Also 1 of the slider pins is ceased, so I need to also sort that out. oh and that was the first corner I started on so the cars now parked up at the outlaws until Tuesday when I can get it to a mech, I'll get him to also replace the discs and pads. I can't be bothered anymore.
  7. Sounds like your boost hose, as you're a novice stick it in with the garage to get sorted. The turbo is probably over boosting.
  8. I've just done the same, and the wind back tool is stuck. Do I need to turn the silver bit where the metal plate sits in to unwind down the thread and thus release the pressure from the plate?
  9. I reckon it would be great for the site if you could put together a how-to guide as I've seen been asked a few times now :)
  10. Chris, you just made me sh!t myself :D There would have been almost no where to get bearings tomorrow where I live :) It's a Friday, you're forgiven ;) :P Thanks MK2VR6 for clearing it up :)
  11. the front discs don't need a bearing pressed in do they? It's part of the hub, likewise for the rear right?
  12. Thanks for clearing up the ABS sensor, Mirez. I just received my front pads and noticed only 1 had a sensor. Just got my front brakes from a place a friend works at, good price for Delphi brakes. They may have the loom, their website (shameless plug for them) is http://www.vwsonline.co.uk/car_parts_bristol/ If you don't see it online give them a call  Just a quick question, Should the Front pads come with new bolts like the rears? :) Sorry for the hijack...
  13. I'd double check the loom and maybe wrap it in electrical tape to try stop crud getting in between the connectors. and to secure it a bit more. The rear pads are about 1cm at their thickest point in the middle (not measured just guestimate from looking at mine)
  14. Hi Paul, They're Vredstein Sportrac3's (spelling?) which I read on here are pretty good for the Gal's... It was fitted in March IIRC, do you think I have any chance of getting it replaced by the company I bought it from if the noise is still there after replacing the brakes? It really does resemble the noise of a bearing, but as that's been changed it can't be - so I guess it's either the brakes or wheel. So by Saturday afternoon we should know if it is or not... Got Delphi front pads and discs coming along with a Topran AR Drop link for
  15. I took it for a little drive and it gets worse with speed, however it does sound like it's a rotational noise in sequence with the wheel rotation and changes pitch with braking. So what could be the probable causes? 1) Dud wheel 2) Brakes ?
  16. Hi Paul, It does make a metal on metal sssssssshhhhhrrrrrrrr noise, I thought it was the bearing as when cornering to the right there is a grinding sort of noise. It increases with wheel rotation, from what I can tell, it is hard to hear as I can only hear it in the car with the window down and if there is a wall next to the car on the n/s/f where it can echo off. I had a tyre fitted a few months back, I had the cornering noise start just after that actually but thought it was because of the wheel alignment & worn tyre & potholes that damaged the bearing and was more audible with the new tyre & wheel alignment done. Do you think the noise that started after the new tye and the now increased noise is the tyre? I'm still doing the brakes anyway as they need replacing, along with the AR Drop link.
  17. Got it back and it's making a worse noise now... the drop link has gone  and the metallic whirring/whooshing noise is still there so my next guess is brakes as they need doing and the garage did say they need doing so will be giving them a go this weekend.
  18. Mirez said in the other thread that Ford/VW charge about
  19. Sounds similar to what I had, does it also do it when slowing down? Is it coming from any particular side? I bought a wheel bearing as the car has also made a noise when cornering from the n/s/f, which is the same corner the metallic whooshing noise is coming from, I'm hoping that's the only problem... still waiting for the call to say it's done... As always before spending any cash on what internet forums say, get it diagnosed by a mechanic you trust.
  20. I dropped it off this morning and asked if they could make it their first job so I can get to work this afternoon as my boss has kindly given me the morning off at short notice. "Yes, we'll make it one of the first jobs we do"... that was at 8am... 7 hours later I'm still waiting for a call. I called them at 11:50 to see how much longer it was going to be (they said 1.5 hours, it had been almost 4...) and they hadn't even started on it! urgh! Doesn't help it is so hot and I'm loosing the plot a little now. @Sparky Paul, I bought a bearing kit which came with a nut, a big bolt and a circular thing and ofc the bearing itself, so I assume that's everything they would need?
  21. How silly of me, forgetting these beasts don't use conventional suspension - I blame the Guinness & heat  Still amazing to see they've made adjustable suspension for them though
  22. Check the thread on the bolt holes, I need to get this sorted no thanks to the ruddy last owner.
  23. :)  Are you sirrius?
  24. I'm sorry what was the question again? I was drooling over the Scirocco rims. There's not much you can do without coilovers or air-ride, except puy it back to factory springs on the rear, which could throw out the handling.
