  1. You will most likely need to tweak the settings in Options. A lot of people find that changing the BAUD rate will fix the problem you are describing.
  2. I would love to know that Greggers, every doc I've read on these say to clamp the brake hose and loosen the bleed nipple :) I think I'll renew the fluid as the car does not have any service history from the previous owner. I just need a weekend where I have nothing else to do, I might book myself for next Saturday so I defo have 1 full day to attempt this (brake changing virgin). Would anyone recommend an easibleed kit over a jar, hose and assistant?
  3. When you test the cable under Options, does it come up successful on only 1 of the com ports? The free version (what you get with ebay cables) won't do an Auto-Scan, take a note of all the modules it will scan under the Sharan, but DO NOT scan the air bag module (off the top of my head I think it's module 18, but double check that under the manual scanning module list). Scan module 01, the engine module, and see if it can scan or returns a timeout error. hth Jay
  4. Some of the codes make sense but for a lot you'll need to cross reference the codes with what they mean as with the free version of VAG COM some codes only give you the digits and not small description. http://wiki.ross-tech.com/index.php/Main_Page The wiki doesn't seem to be loading at the mo, but it usually does. Otherwise just copy and paste the code into Google and you'll find other people who've had the same code and what it meant and how the fixed it :) gotta love the whole VAG scene close knit community and cars which are so much alike :)
  5. Well I didn't get round to doing them today :) I'll get it done next weekend, I'll bleed the rears while I'm at it and bleed the fronts when I do the pads and discs in a few months. Thanks for all the replies too.
  6. hmmm I've been wondering if my noise was the bearing or wheel. The noise on mine coincidently started after the wheel had been changed, but it was a brand new decent make tyre. I guess the only self check Darton & I could do is swap the wheels over with the rear ones, right? Can tyre fitters check for any problems?
  7. Thanks for confirming that for me. I'll try rope father in law into helping me bleed the brakes, the missus is next to useless at 37 weeks preg lol she can barely walk.
  8. Yup, that looks identical to the one I got.
  9. any of the KKL
  10. Got the discs and pads, will get a little copper slip (might still have a big tub in the GTD). So from what I've read there are 2 x 14mm bolts holding the calliper to the carrier/hub. Tie it up out the way until the discs are replaced, not bending the brake hose too much. When replacing the discs clean up the hub surface and smear a bit of copper slip on so removing the discs later on in life is easier. Pop the old pads out the calliper, clean the calliper up, place new pads in position. Use Laser tool to wind the piston back in. Bolt Calliper back up. replace wheel, lower car, pump brake pedal 10 times? Simple as that? Now, what I want to know is it necessary to clamp the brake hose and undo the bleed valve? The new pads I got (set of 4 boxed Pagid pads and 2 Pagid discs from ECP) only 1 has a sensor plug on it is this correct and I won't find that I'm missing a pad with a plug on it? Any suggestions on how to make it less stressful? (bar sending it to a mechanic). TIA Jay
  11. When was it last serviced? and how many miles does it have on the clock? Higher mileage cars need servicing more often than low mileage cars.
  12. Did the 50p get stuck in the slot?
  13. ebay for the key, get it cut and programmed to the immobilizer (if you have one) by an alarm specialist and read the FAQs at the top of the tech section for the method of programming the central locking.
  14. 99% sure it's the silver box located on the right hand-side at the back of the engine bay (as you look in the engine bay).
  15. Can you also do the 0 - 60 timer? I know they're big cars but would be a nice 'feature' to show off with, especially when selling the car  I knew someone with an R32 who had it, not sure if it was standard on them.
  16. Yes, you should be able to do the alarm arming 'chirp'.
  17. There are, but it's illegal to crack the software. It's a lot of money, but so is
  18. I think he only had a problem with 03 when auto-scanning with his shareware version of VAG-COM, which would be the problem.
  19. You sir are a geek after my own heart :(
  20. If you could do a write up on how to do it that would be fab Mirez! :(
  21. That's what I was thinking. Find a LARGE open car park, engage steering on FULL lock and do a 180/360 to see if you get any clunking/clicking strange noises ( I think this works for these cars, please correct me if I'm wrong )
  22. Wouldn't the mechanic be liable if the belt went while / shortly after they changed it? A friend recently had his cambelt go on his derv Pug, the mechanic refused to take liability even though it was only a week after it had been changed
  23. are you sirius?
  24. I found camskill quite cheap for tyres, the local tyre places fits & balances them for
