I agree with the "perception" thing, but, having owned quite a few new or nearly new cars over the years, for some time... I can honestly say that I had a right to expect a 2 1/2 year old car with just over 30k miles and a comprehensive history not to suffer major mechanical failure - I would also expect that a car which retails new at almost

Real World Shalaxy Mechanical Reliability

Nah Tim, was gonna get a voyager, but -
Robbie, the Tdi Auto has consistently been awarded a great towcar by various caravan clubs etc.... I'm pxing mine next week if ya are interested... Would let it go for what the dealer is giving me in swap, It's already got a towbar and dual elecs... And it has suffered from most, if not all of the gremilins, including a new box.... And had them all sorted too.... Mike

Unasked Question About The Booster Heater
GSMGuy replied to marinabrid's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Have a feel of the water hoses under the car, they'll take forever, and I mean forever to get warm on a cold day with the engine idling... If you can feel warmth after a few mins, it's safe to assume all is well... My aux heater runs almost continuously in the winter - well it did last year anyway, have only heard it a couple of times this year so far... Strange thing though... How many other TDi owners mentally check the temp display and listen to make sure the aux heater fires up on cold mornings.... or is it just me lol.. Mike -

Ok, 30k miles when I got it 12 months ago.... 2 full auto gearboxes and 4 valve chests..... Drop links Pads and discs on the front Seized wiper motor linkage Duff aux heater glowplug Totally useless blower on the a/c - just not enough air volume and throughput for a car of this size Bloody annoying one touch elec windows Gearbox Ecu All faults now fixed - but what a list in 12 months for a 3 year old car... Needless to say I will not be buying another... Mike -
Lol - Just had an email from the dealer confirming they WILL be replacing all 4 tyres as part of the deal.... They are 275/55/17 - Ouch!!!!! Mike

I also have to say that the 270Cdi motor in te merc is Soooooooo smooth compared to the Tdi....... I LOVE the space and ride of the Gal, but HATE the unreliability, noise and poor build quality.... I have NEVER owned a MErc, had a BMW M3 about 10 years ago, but always had Fords, Peugeots or the odd Citroen (and yes most Citroens are Odd lol) BUT the Gal has 100% put me off from EVER buying a Ford again... Such a shame, but I reckon I could keep my new car (pick her up next Fri) for 10 years and not have the probs I have had with the Gal.... So.. http://img7.imageshack.us/img7/343/newcar2gc.jpg Here we go.. in leather heated comfort.... Mike

Get some sort of fine "pick" and make sure the heads of the torx bolts are clear of corrosion and crap, as this will cause the driver to "cam out" and chew the heads... Mike

Just for info, just done a deal on my 02/51 plate TDi 115 Zetec Auto - 43k, history etc, got

On the subject of 4x4 types, I have to admit I was out in a merc ML270 CDi tiptronic Auto today... Loved it so much that have done the deal, and the Gal will be going shortly, hopefully to be replaced by a reliable vehicle... Mike

Justcice, do you supply the MAFS, or just happen to have one? Mike
-
Afaik, it was oribginally 60k, but been reduced to 40k across the board as a result of some failures under warranty..... 40k is now the official line, and coincidentally if you print out a service schedule from the TIS is shows 40k intervals... So if your belt snaps before the next service will your dealer cover the cost of repairs?? Mike

Just had a look at the pages you linked to, and tbh, I would steer clear... That box looks like a posher version of the cheap resistor mod on the temp sensor, to fool the engine into over fuelling..... Mine plugs into the injector harness rather than the temp sensor, and has a seperate 12v supply, it increases fuelling across the range and is fully programmable... That "may turn on the diagnostic light/store fault codes etc" is bollox - mine has nevr done this on my gal or the previous Audi's and Citroen/peugeots.... A completely different setup to the one you are looking at... Mike

I personally have a Speedbuster box fitted to my 115 Auto, and what a difference it makes (or did until current, but unrelated probs) They ain't cheap @ around

Tdi Owners - Stupid Question For You All
GSMGuy replied to a topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
If A/C is on and the fan is on at least pos 1 - the cooling fans will always run in slow mode to ensure adequate airflow for the a/c to work.. Mike -
Hmmm... I'll be under it with the WD40 tomorrow at this rate.... And yep, I am serious.. Mike

Guys Edmondsj has a PD 115 motor, so it will look a LOT different... Mike

Tdi Loss Of Power (again) - Resettable
GSMGuy replied to wytonpjs's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Well, firstly, apologies for the delay - had to reinstall windows on the main PC  Received the TMAP yesterday, thanks Peter... Fitted in a couple of mins and reset all fault codes and did a reset to factory defaults also for good measure.... So off for a run... Accelerating hard once warmed up a bit (Aux heater kicked in nicely  ) And got to about 60ish in 4th...... Bam, same old same old....... Have cleared codes on 4 occasions now and still does the same - so guess it's not the TMAP either... So, Boost control valve replaced with new one.. MAF substituted for known duff one, which made it worse and now TMAP changed... This is really doing my head in now..... Oh Peter, for some strange reason, the 2nd DVD is full of errors, have tried it in the lappy and the 3 DVD drives on my PC, all still the same..... So been able to install the proggy, but not the data  Mike -
Vr6, pm me .. Mike

Well, wytonpjs has very kindly put a copy in the post for me, along with his TMAP for elimination purposes (MANY THANKSS Peter!) Should be getting them tomorrow, and if he has no objections I'll gladly do a copy to send to the 1st to request it - On the condition that they do likewise.... Mike
