  1. Jeff, the flame inside the heater... The spray of diesel ignited by the glow plug and kept burning by the combustion (air) blower... With VAG-COM you can test the pump and the blower to see if they work. I got my interface from www.skpang.com I got the KEY_PRO usb/serial lead for
  2. Ivor - if it gets hot at all, then the glowplug must be working - you may have a blowe problem, or even a blocked air inlet, maybe causing the flame to go out, and the pump to run on a little, hence the Diesel - But it may also be the pump ovedosing it on fuel - smothering the flame?? Anyway Vag cxom wiill tell you if the glowplug is faulty, and you can manually turn on the blower and the pump to check them - I am sure I posted a TSB on grey smoke a few weeks back.. Mike
  3. Seatkid - it only locks out after getting 5 errors from the heater - ie, flame out, overheat, no glowplug, or no blower etc.. Paul - Maybe a good old jolt in the road has freed yours? Did you ever get round to stripping it fully down? Mike
  4. Update - tried mine unplugged tonight - Wouldn't pull the skin off the proverbial rice pudding! So looks like mine is ok.... For now.. Mike
  5. Not sure about the mk1 - When I did the cruise on mine, licated a teardrop shaped gromet just above and to the left of the brake pedal.. Made a hole, and sealed it afterwards with mastic.. Mike
  6. Ultima box is completeley different to that fitted to the Gal - Ultima's is designed for a longitudional installation, and is therefore quite long, and narrow in order to fit into the trans tunnel. Also obviously the ultima is RWD, as opposed to the Gal's FWD - they may share some internal components however. And yes, Ultima box is reliable - a friend has a 99 Ultima with over 400,000 iles on it!!!! Still runs like a dream! Mike
  7. Normally pink, and found in the bathroom.... lol - Sorry couldn't resist!!! Mike
  8. Jum, the 115tdi auto makes a superb tow car - especially if you chip it too!!! Mike
  9. Gregers - where did you get yours for that price? Mike
  10. VR6, is this the same for the mk2? Just that I have 4 superb Sony XS-A1726 custom fit speakers that I had fitted into my ahem, Picasso, and naturally removed beofre sale - It would be great if I could re-use them as they really made a difference - plus they cost me around
  11. What is the fault tone?? Mike
  12. Jush had a mooch... Apparently VAG-COM does the job, an a lot more besides.... You learn something new every day lol... Info HERE! Mike
  13. Hmm... So, if a MAF is faulty.... Does it throw up a fault code? Does driving with it disconnected throw up a code or do any damage? Should we all disconnect ours tomorrow and see if our cars slow down? If we do, and they do - are they faulty?? Just wanted to be sure.. Mike
  14. John, My switch definately operates @ 10 degrees, so in your case changing the switch should do the trick - It's bllody awkward to get at though!! Mike
  15. Eddies - get on your knees and look up behind the sill at the n/s/r door - you should be able to see the booster, you can clearly see the inlet pipe for the air and the small exhaust pipe with it's flat silencer heading towards the centre of the rear axlebeam.. Mike
  16. Lol - will agree with that - parking sensors are a boon! Lost count of the number of times people sitting in the car behind have beeped me whilst I have been reversing towards them - I just carry on to frighten them lol... Happened today in Asda - sorry old fart!!! Mike
  17. Hi m8 - Vag-com is available free from www.ross-tech.com however, it's the lead that is the important bit - don't be tempted to buy a cheap one on Ebay!!! I got mine, alog with a few other members on here - from www.skpang.com Very reliable anre competitively priced - no surprise import tax!!! HTH Mike
  18. Sorry.. Kwikfit reasonable??? my a**e!!! Mike
  19. It's a single switch with 2 sets of contacts - I had this and solved it be refitting it and soaking with WD-40! Mike
  20. John, we cleared yours before we left - If it didn't try to start 5 times before you replaced the plug, then that's why it didn't need resetting.. Glad it's all sorted now though - Makes a big difference eh? - looks like I was lucky with the bolts on mine lol - Gave then a coat of coppaslip on reassembly - you never know!! Cheers for the wine too, very nice bottle! Mike
  21. Dave, you need to extend the loom that comes with the switch so that it reaches through the bulkhead - and around to the ECU behind the battery - I bought a purpose built loom from Germany, cost me
  22. Hi Martin, and welcome to the forum... The heaters are similar to the Webasto's but unless you have the timer in the headlining above the mirror, they only function when the engine is running. It should come on when the temp is below 10 degrees, so if yours doesn't, I'd suspect the sensor - it is a different one to the general temp sensor, which is located behind the lower grille - The dedicated one for the heater is clipped to one of the fixed wiper arm tubes under the scuttle below the windscreen, on the same side of the battery... They look the same, but are not - the one for the heater is a simple make/break @10 degrees, the one behind the grille is a variable item... HTH Mike
  23. MArk, whereabouts are you? A diagnostic check would probably help out... You say you have a cd with the parts on it, it it Microcat or TIS? As TIS usually has diagnostic procedures.. Mike
  24. That's right mate - 115 & 130 have variable vanes... Mike
