The third alternative is to take the chip out of the working key and stick it in the car by the ignition switch aerial but then you loose the security the immob adds... and if your car gets stolen and the insurance co find out about this they will no doubt refuse to pay out. this has been discussed numerous times before,up to you which way you go ;)

just make sure before spending any more of your hard earned you have exhausted the faqs for solutions.

well i have 2 smax in my household,basically the same car.ive never heard a rattle in ours,1 @16k(wifes) 2@105k(mine) but as ours are 2 ltr tdi's im wondering if this is a characteristic of the 1.8 ?? maybe test drive a 1,8 and have a close listen to see if its the same?

ive got 1 of these,i found it worked ok and done the job and saved me from getting a ticket,or get i that looks like a growth hanging out of your ear. my smax has built in Bluetooth great when it works pain in the rear when my phone/car freezes.

just to add to this,apparently timpsons are no longer cutting these types of keys unless they have supplied them???? something to do with cheap Chinese copies etc and the metal being thin???? best thing to do is ask them but be prepared for a no !!!!!! and if you get a no plz update this for everyone,thanks muchly.

id start looking as follows 3/1/2 :46: :5: there are details i think in the faqs on selector cables? clutch if its slipping try taking it on a hill and see what happens? gearbox aint got a scooby,is it manuel or auto.? read up on them on here.

Everything else seemed fine, the only thing left to do was the Cam Sensor - this was reported as being faulty in the diagnostic report that I gave in the first post in this thread We replaced this and now the car is running fine well done grasshopper. 1st post eh me thinks you couldve saved your self all of the heart ache :5: still at least you now know how to put the engine back together now. :46:

you can get batteries from the likes of halfords/maplins. are you sure the key has been programmed to the car?if the batteries are removed after about 10mins it will lose memory. reprogramming instructions are in the faqs,follow these CAREFULLY. or there may be a dry solder on the board,or the board may have cracked?. as for the mechanism they are designed to work so any car can suffer failier even if it is a beamer.

iirc it needs resetting with the correct software if its a tdi its vag-com.
