A good days work, congratulations! Fingers crossed for you, the td is a solid old lump though and it takes a lot to kill one so I'd be suprised if its dead :)

And to bring this back to the top, wow. The old oil was quite knarly looking, with a slight residue of something floating on top. After the change it was noticeably smoother and a little quieter but this morning was the real test - from cold the VW box has always been a little.. well er, crap. Both my Mk2's (125K and 65K) have been crunchy and difficult when cold but this morning it was smooth and effortlessly went into gears without the normal "breakfast crunch" :) This is a highly recommended service! 052171A2 D2 Gearbox Oil x3 @ 12.87 =

Max rev's normally indicates the engine is running on oil instead of fuel and 90% of the time thats from the intake system which is indeed from the turbo having failed. From under the car remove one of the pipes going into the intercooler - if there is a large amount of oil in there then almost certainly the seals have failed on the turbo. The AA chap has removed the upper pipe from the intercooler which will normally have a small amount of oil in it from vapour, the bulk will be sat down at the bottom of the intercooler which is why you need to remove the lower pipe to be sure. Blown turbo's not the end of the world as its reasonbly easy to change on the galaxy, its just the cost that might be the problem.

Check the aux belt and tensioner first, if its slipping it'll be giving uneaven power assist to the steering which will come across as a jerky feeling at the steering wheel.

Metallic Clunk/tap Noise And Fix
Mirez replied to Mirez's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Both my Mk2's have had this failed, my neigbours alhambra and my friends sharan have also all done the same. Its only this Mk2 that I've noticed the noise more however, but yes I would say this is a clear flawed part hence the revision and the complete material change. -
Exhaust Manifold Bolt Sheared

Well the wrenches are indeed great, but I like the sound of your super wenches even better! -
Right come on lets get these issues sorted! Refer to this: The blower and its speed controller are independant of the panel. Its fed via fuses F22 (<05/2002) F33 (>05/2002) or F77 (>05/2002 + Rear heating (77 is under the drivers seat)) and the "panel" is purely a switch unit. In position 4 its direct to ground, 3, 2 or 1 its passed through the ballest resistor which limits the fan speed. If the blower works on position 4 but not the others then the resistor pack is burnt out, if it not working at all then check the supply and ground. The rest of the panel is digital and fed from fuses F3 and F32 (both 5 Amp) - this arrives at the panel on the black connector (C70) on pin's 10 & 26 (from F3) and 32 (from F32). There are two grounds on pin 11 and 27. Thats all the power supplies and grounds the unit uses. There are more for the individual A/C units but I'm not going to write all that out since all of the system is failed and not just one bit - the internal controls (flap position, temperature and recirc valve) are all fed from the panel's supply. Finally, the analogue clock is also supplied its feed from F32 so I would start there if thats not working

Metallic Clunk/tap Noise And Fix
Mirez replied to Mirez's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
And to conclude it was fitted today: Old one, you can see the crack: Old and revised steel part: New one in and fitted: FYI Bolts need to be changed as they are smaller then the original ones. -
No, Mk2's only remove not fold flat - you'll need a Mk3 for that but then whilst its more versitle you use more space and it costs more to run as you can't remove that extra weight. Mk2 seats just lift out, they are friggin heavy though and are require a knack to refitting :16:

The 3 Point belt for the middle seat was fitted in production from 15th Nov 2000 so late Y's and 51's on should have them!

Galaxy 1.9 Tdi Overheating/boiling Up
Mirez replied to groover1973's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Its also worth noting that the temperature guage is programmed in such a way that it will point at 90*c for all temperatures in the range of around 83*c > 97*c so its not accurate! -
You mean the half shaft from o/s driveshaft to box? If so then its a dealer only part and about
-
The visteon unit will plug directly in, if you are siting it where the VCR once was using that cable then you'll need to just swap where the other end plugs in under the center console (strait out and in job - no rewiring)

Airbag Warning Light

Model? Year? Spec? -
Had a quietish metal clunky noise everytime I accelerate hard and then release, tracked it down on the last Mk2 to a broken bracket and found the same again on this one - follow the pipe from the intercooler back towards the turbo and you'll come across a bracket that clamps the pipe to the side of the engine block. On both my Mk2's this clamp had fractured resulting in the pipe being allowed to move around and causing the metal tappy noise. It seems there is some kind of reaction between the alloy and the pipe that creates corrosion which pushes out on the bracket, fracturing it in the process. There are two part numbers for fixing it, the 90's and 115's use the same part as the original and the 130's and 150's had a revision change midway through 2005. This change moves it from aluminium to steel however it will fit the 90's and 115's so I don't really understand why it only shows as a revision for the 130/150's. Since I was ordering other bits from Ford I popped it onto the same order - part number is 1425429 @

Anyone done this on a Mk2? I'm fairly sure mines holed as its whisteling on boost, slightly underpowered and there is an oily residue around what looks suspiciously like impact damage on the front! Got the replacement ready to fit, seems to only have 4 bolts holding it on? Yet to confirm but I'm guessing its bumper off and a simple removal from below and out?

-
They were available as an option for all Mk2 from around 2000 on, you see them pop up from time to time on ebay but bid dont buy-now as they dont go for more then about
-
Technically yes they'll fit no problem, physically they are the same but electrically they changed from an 8 pin plug to a 16 pin plug on the Mk2.5 (2003>) so it depends what year they came from/are being fitted to. You can rewire though so thats not the end of the world and yes they wilil fit

Seat Belt Warning Light Not Working
Mirez replied to hocky's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
The Mk2 Galaxy never had the seatbelt warning system installed. just the sharan/bamma - if the lights coming on then someones been fiddling in vagcom  (remove 02 from the coding) Alternatively its probably a doddle to retrofit as most driver only warning systems are simple dumb ground switches which are made when the belts put in the socket - its only when you start adding passenger warning that you need occupancy sensors, you'll need to find where to run the wiring to on the clusters connector though which should be pin 31 on the blue connector (C170)
