  1. Are you leaving side light on with indicator stalk in left position? (switches left side park on with ignition off) If not change supplier. Overvolts not possible.
  2. may or may not helpAC_with_ATC_Module_2_8i_CD_V6_1998.doc
  3. If it won't hold the car on the slightest incline then by definition it won't slow the car down. A incline of say 2% needs Brake efficiency of 2% to hold. Hand brake would normally be expected to be at least 20%. I think either the MOT testers have confused foot brake performance (rear) with hand brake, or more likely let it pass as they did the job! Ivor, would you be happy with a handbrake that didnt hold the car on that incline to your garage? (which looks rather steep - maybe 8 - 10%?)
  4. When I passed the local Nationwide centre (near the local Halfords - both houses of "ill repute" IMO) I noticed a giant board advertising cheap servicing with large statement underneath "Satisfaction guaranteed" - That must mean something to a local trading standards officer...
  5. Have you checked fuel pump relay? Several have reported this to be a common fault for intermittent running.
  6. NEVER EVER trust a dealer (or a garage) to put in the right oil for a Tdi PD. The oil must always have VW 505.01 or 506.01 (not 505.00) stamped on the tin. This forum proves that a very high proportion have the wrong oil put in (possibly > 50% of owners!) In the case of engine warranty claims, Fords etc will no doubt walk away on examination of service records that show wrong oil type.
  7. I too don't have any problem with dealers (or any other garages) - I don't use them!!!!! They break more than they fix, damage the car and the charges are...... :) :) :) The seats are too hard. Even after 50k miles.
  8. Could be several things but most likely MAF sensor (Mass Air Flow sensor) or (less likely) leaks in the vaccum system. Search the forum, the topics been covered countless times.
  9. Whenever A/C is turned on, the cooling fan should come on (half speed). Sounds as if you have an electrical fault. For all electrical faults, you need to post full details of year, model, and options such as A/C variant cc etc. as there as several wiring possibilties. I'm guessing now - 1999 V6 - try fuse F28 (10A)
  10. Passed the MOT? :) Rusty linkage not OK but ineffective handbrake OK? :) The handbrake is self adjusting, operate the foot pedal firmly several times followed by the hand brake several times. If the handle still comes up more than 5 notches then adjust at the centre linkage (located about a foot in front of the spare tyre). If still no joy, then whoever change the linkages did it wrong. If the garage that did the MOT changed the linkages, I would report them to the MOT standards people.
  11. Does the fuel filler lock work OK? Need year of car for more detailed answer....
  12. AFAIK the fan(s) only have two speeds, slow and fast. Slow is turned on when compressor demand is on (though compressor may not actually be on) or the water temp is greater than 95 deg C. Fast is selected when water temperature is greater than 102 deg C The slow fan with A/C is as Nimrod says to improve efficiency as the A/C condensor would be heated by the water radiator sitting immediately behind it. If your fans are audible on slow speed then they (or one) is out of balance or damaged. My (single large) fan is inaudible on slow setting. TIS shows two fan variants as two independant electric fans - some VW cars have got twin fans with a belt between the two (how naff!)
  13. Must be skimping on the soundproofing on these modern Galaxies. Is this the reason for kerb weight difference between Galaxies and Alhambras?
  14. Maybe, what mileage? I wonder what the longest anyone here has gone before a clutch change...
  15. Don't know what it is about you Nimrod. You always seems to be very aggresive whenever I post my opinions. Will you calm down... If you're willing to pay someone to check something is working, thats fine. I personally think it is pointless. Ford also thinks that a check for damage and leaks every 3 years is sufficient. Leaks are due to damage or broken components - they are not normal. It just a pity that they used crap evaporators a large proportion of which fail within 4 years - something unheard of in Toyota according to my brother who works there.
  16. "servicing" or "repairing" - there is a difference.
  17. Wow! Very good Ivor - impressed. I've got two luggage covers in the garage (one from 1st written off Alhambra). Never used either in eight years.
  18. Common everyday lacquer tends to go yellow/gold when applied to wheels (especially when heated). Once exposed, aluminium oxidises (white) readily and with moisture etc. can pit quite badly so I would touch the lacquer up quickly otherwise the wheel would need to be machined or thoroughly sand blasted and recoated to restore it. They rarely look as good as new. If the job is done badly then you end up have to pump the tyres up every week as some aluminium alloys are also porous.
  19. I've never ever known the compressor to cycle in AUTO (though it may shut down temporarily if it gets too hot which I've never seen). AUTO is displayed only if you have three or more bars on your fan settings and then not always. I thinks the genius (thats a pun) that wrote the software thinks AUTO is only displayed if he thinks the system is set such that it is capable of total cabin temperature control. Also the fan settings (bars) mean dick apart from (none) = fan off and (all) = fan full on. I often have the option of only full on on two bars or bugger all up to four bars. On Skodas and Mercedes the CC is a rotary temperature setting and a rotary five/six speed fan control that directly controls fan speed. Far superior - why doesn't Skoda do an MPV? BTW when the a/c is kaput (which is fairly regularly) then if ECON is not displayed your engine cooling fan(s) will be on. Such is the brilliance of the design that AUTO etc. will still be displayed even though it knows it ain't working. As you can guess I don't think muich of the Galaxy a/c design.
  20. Auto = compressor (cooler thingy) on No display = compressor on also (what a great design) Econ = compressor off Flashing = time to visit your dealer again.....(bring lots of cash)
  21. A mile is a mile is 1760 yards or 8 furlongs or 22 chains no matter where you are in the universe (unless your'e the nautical type) And all MkII UK Tdi Galaxies and all Auto MkI Tdi have 40k cambelt AND tensioner replacement according to Ford. :) And Ford dealers just love it. Looks like my next car's a Skoda...
  22. Wine maybe.... May I explain my joke for all you Galaxbies. FM Modulators can have range of up to 50 metres (under good conditions several hundred metres) hence the pirate radio joke haha? Occassionally when the weather is exceptional, FM radio can go great distances - on 3 or 4 occasions I've picked up italian and other european stations on FM in yorkshire......or maybe that was the guy in the galaxy parked over by the toilets... :) Me tinks Fm modulators are (strictly speaking) illegal - no flames though I aint bothered. Thinks I'll have a coffee after all.
  23. Maybe its hungry.... Thinks its normal.
  24. Definitely miles and I triple checked with the UK Skoda service books (Fabia) - 100,000 miles cambelt and tensioner (diesel models). Intermediate 20,000 miles have a "check condition of". I had my Golfs cambelt changed last year at main dealer  When I check a few weeks later it looked suspisciously like the old one (no logo/part no/lettering to be seen...) and definitely didnt look spanking new... I rest my case mlud.....
