In that case I have a fault  Regards - JB

The two brake switches on my car work at slightly different positions, the brake lights come on first and then with a little more travel the solenoid operates to release the gear lever. Neither of these positions has any effect on the creep ability of my Gal which seems perfectly normal compared to all the other Auto's I've had. From a theory point of view I don't see how the torque converter could actually disengage so I suppose the autobox would have to go into neutral for this to work ? If it is a definate fault I have a years warranty left so I need to know! Regards - JB

Does that mean two of us have got the same fault or ............. the unthinkable GSMGUY is WRONG <_< Regards - JB

Well the static cutout on mine has cutout. Brake lights on, ease the pedal up, car moves forwards or backwards no problem. Release the brake pedal further until the brake lights go off, no difference. Regards - JB

Probably battery voltage low due to poor connections / u/s battery. Regards - JB

Soz John, but when you put your foot on the brake in an auto galaxy, drive is automatically disengaged... It's a standard feature to keep emissions low... thry just holding the cadr in D with the footbrake pressed only hard enought to operate the brake lights... You will feel a DEFINATE and POSITIVE disengagement of drive...... Takes it up again VERY quickly when you release the brake pedal though...... TBH it's one of the things I actually miss on my Merc, as on a very light brake pedal, and in D the Merc will creep - whereas the Gal NEVER did due to the idle stop.. Mike Well mine certainly does creep which is useful for parking and it definately moves with the brake lights on. I must admit with the pedal firmly down when drive or reverse is selected there's no thud as in other auto's I've had and nor is there a momentary drop in revs. I'll pay more attention to it and report back <_< Meryy Christmas to you all. Regards - JB

Number plate's a bit of a mess

Why not, knee's are perfectly good for holding the wheel steady <_<

It would be slightly more useful to let us know what version of the Gal you have i.e. year, engine, gearbox etc. Regards - John

The new tyres tend to stop any drag even if geometry's out, notice how light the steering is when new tyres are fitted on the front ?

Try driving on the wrong side of the road when the road is clear (doing it when it's not clear also fixes the problem), does it now drift to the right? if so it's road camber, my Gal does it just gently left all the time unless I drive on the right #8o) Regards - JB

or the throttle pot ?

Climate Control Too Damned Fiddly
johnb80 replied to Taliska's topic in What thing irritate you about your Galaxy
Well I'll have to disagree with you, the positioning of the controls could have been better BUT I find I hardly ever have to touch mine, generally set to 19 in summer, 21 in winter and it looks after itself. Automatically switches on the front screen heater and demister first thing in a morning, keeps the cabing very comfortable, superb. You can keep your three knobs and the constant fiddling needed to keep the temperature right, Ill have CC any day of the week. Regards - JB -
reacent news as it cand save you monely It also makes you spell funny too. If those tanks had been LPG there would have been a very, very big difference, yes it went bang with Petrol, Diesel and Kerosene and it was spectacular, the consequences with LPG don't bare thinking about. If you think different you're kidding yourself, so long as you know the risks and the risks are acceptable to you then fine. Regards - JB

Auto's DO keep on moving even when braking, it's the torque converter drag. Useful when manouvering etc, it should be very controlable with the brake, if it's really aggresive then double check the idle speed. Regards - JB

What makes you think I'm asleep ;) You clearly haven't been paying attention to some of my recent comments about LPG. Did you know by the way, that George Best wasn't buried in Ireland? It wasn't a good idea to cremate him in Hemel either  Apologies to all in Hemel, it must be awful. Regards - JB

Not by any chance a drive by wire problem? i.e. u/s potentiometer from the accelerator ? The above of course assuming that yours is DBW Regards - JB

If the thermostat was stuck open there would be little / no heat on the radiator or the heating system. Regards - JB

You should also remember that brake fluid is more likely to cause a fire when dripped on a hot exhaust than petrol or diesel! Regards - JB

If your aircon is leaking into the passenger compartment you have a blocked drain somewhere. You should find it well down on the firewall and usually has a simple valve (rubber flap), these can stick or get blocked with leaves etc. Regards - JB

One of my cars in my earlier life was an original Lotus 7, no heater, no wipers and no roof! I used it day in, day out all weathers including shift work going to work at 05:15 when it was heavy snow (we used to live on the edge of the Penines). Still have fond memories and wish I still had it today, true to say it never went wrong apart from a plastic heel on the contact breakers (remember those) sheared off one night on the way home from afternoon shift. I removed the headlamp to use it as a torch, made a new heel from a tiewrap base and glued it on. It got me home. Regards - JB

I suppose it's a bit like turbo's, electric starters and electric windscreen wipers, why on earth do you need a heater anyway ?

I can't admit to understanding how this is possible I bow to the greater knowledge of SEATKID. My flabber is well and truly gasted ! Regards - JB

unless amplified by your torque convertor.... The torque convertor can and does multiply torque when it slips (as does a clutch) Torque is the amount of turning force the engine creates, surely all a torque converter can do is loose it? If it really could amplify it where does the extra power come from? why do they get hot in use? if it doesn't need any extra power then it would seem we have perpetual motion machines i.e. connect the output back to the input (more torque comes out than goes in) therefore the thing should runaway  Regards - JB

It wouldn't matter if you were trying to pull a house up a mountain 310Nm is 310Nm it wont produce anymore. :D
