  1. No it's not..... YOURS maybe rubbish but mine isn't. Regards - JB
  2. Make sure ALL of the electrics work, check the aircon, smooth changes from the box with prompt kickdown, make sure there's shed loads of pulling power at 1800 rpm or thereabouts, no excessive smoke when very cold from the aux heater, no water leaks into the footwells. Kick the tyres, have a cuppa, get em to give you a warranty that covers everything and ENJOY !!!! Regards - JB
  3. It's designed to charge up the flat battery at a very low rate, it would take ages, especially for a diesel. Good set of jump leads stowed away with the jack, the missus will never know and your secret will be safe with us  Regards - JB
  4. No problem, I'll let you know when our events are taking place. We are having Paul Heckles up for a weekend giving Jet tuition (
  5. Hi MATT, Where are you located, we have quite a few events at our flying club and you'd be most welcome with your oil burner and you plastic shed in tow. What do you fly? I'm just moving into jets from initially Heli's then fixed wing IC. Regards - JB
  6. Leave me alone  I like being on stilts, my H.I.D.s are just at a nice level for burning out the retinas of the brats in their Corsas ! I personally like the ride height of the Gal, get a better view and I'm not one for screeching round corners though I must say when pushed (I'm a First Responder so get 999 calls) I find the handling predicatble and safe and isn't that far behind standard cars. 7. There has to be a leak and it is their problem not yours, don't give up on it. If they've injected the UV dye wherever the leak is it will stand out, maybe it's inside the heater unit / evaporator core (unlikely) it would be a pig to change. Keep on at them to fix it. Regards - JB
  8. It's obviously good in turning fuel into motion, any heat created is a waste of energy, less heat means more power :) Regards - JB
  9. Lets be honest it's not that hard to use the search engine but some people are just too stupid or lazy! just typeing in fuel consumption or mpg figures opens up to three pages on the topic :) mainly about TDI's wether or not they are the engine type in question :( and strangely enough the same members keep adding to the ever enlargeing list of topics on TDI MPG figures :) maybe you could ask the site admin if you could have your own section on TDI MPG and plastic shed pulling? ;) yours 3000+ miles away and about to drive to the local bar in my 5.7 hemi that does 16MPG with or without a plastic shed hooked up to it :D So you'd want to belong to the I can get 0 to 60 0.1 seconds quicker than you AND mine is 50 mm lower than yours AND I can really shake up my passengers group then? :D Sounds like you're having a good time stateside, are you staying there permanently or are you detined back to the homeland? I'm hoping to get some contracts in the South Carolina's Easter time next year so fingers crossed :D Off to pull my plastic shed full of model aircraft, generators, mucrowave, BBQ and tea urn. Ciao - JB
  10. just a female...... does that mean you're almost a male? :) If you start the engine the radiator should not get warm for quite some time, if you look at the temp guage when its halfway between 0 and 90 deg put your hand carefully on the radiator (big black thing across the front with a big black pipe going into it at one side). If it feels pretty warm there's a good chance you dont have a thermostat fitted or it's stuck open, if it's cold it's likely it's fitted and working correctly. Regards - JB (easily a male :( )
  11. Thats the way to do it :) Why on earth these petrol heads like the sound of screaming engines is beyond me. Regards - JB
  12. I find if I drive as if I don't have brakes high 40's is easily acheived especially if the top speed is kept down. I used to go to Grimsby once per week a 90 mile round trip. If I kept the speed down below 50 the mpg's hit high 40's and on a couple of occasions into th 50's. I have on one occasion managed 60+mpg but that was with a strong following wind blowing. Regards - JB
  13. Relay 30 ? Regards - JB
  14. Yep, that sounds about right. The diesel is so efficient that it doesn't have sufficient waste heat to keep the cabin warm. The booster heater is there to help the engine warm up and to provide the additional heat as and when required. Last year I did a journey over 80 miles in sub zero temps outside, the booster heater was still running when I arrived. Regards - JB
  15. Surely if auto they would be brake bands, if they're worn they slip giving less drive. Do the revs increase when you select reverse? What sort of idle RPM do you have? Are both cup holders in full working order ? Regards - JB
  16. Braking is much higher on diesels than petrol. The higher the compression the greater the braking effect, throttling the inlet as in petrol will cause less braking than wide open throttle due to having less air in the cylinders to compress.
  17. No not having a bad day at all, you'd know if I was  It does irritate me when the absolute minimum of information is given and people are wanting help, a bit like going to the doctor saying I don't feel well and expecting a full diagnosis and appropriate treatment with no further information. I disagree with your guess of diesel though, petrol is more likely to have idle problems than diesel. Petrol is more likely to stall or rev up when load is applied to the motor. Regards - JB
  18. diesel / petrol / 1.9, 2.0, 2.3,VR6 ? Year ? MKI MKII ? A little more information *may* get you some advice. Regards - JB
  19. Bitchy........... Depends on how hard your right foot is down, tha galaxy isn't the most aerodynamic vehicle. With my 115 Auto 60 gives me about 47 ish to the gallon, 75-80 it drops to 44 or thereabouts. The manuals I beleive are slightly better but who wants to mess about with wiggly sticks and too many pedals? Regards - JB
  20. Surely not, loads of people on here have told me it can't happen......... or maybe it just can't happen on Galaxys :D
  21. No problem, it is well documented, have a look at RPiv8.com, rpi engineering's website, they specialise in LPG and Rover V8 engines, lots of useful stuff. To get the very best out of LPG you need massive amounts of advance on the ignition timing, they do a module to do this when running on gas and leave the ignition standard when running on petrol. I have nothing to do with RPi other than being a satisfied customer, I converted my 4.2 Range Rover under their supervision on their premises, nice people and really know their stuff. Regards - John
  22. The voltage needed to jump the gap of the spark plug in an LPG environment is much higher than when running on petrol. Any weakness in the ignition system will certainly show up when running on LPG usually by misfiring (read NOT firing). When the exhaust and inlet valves open up, the exhaust gasses from another cylinder ignite the unfired charge which goes all the way back to the inlet manifold where gas is injected. The resultant bang has to be heard to be believed. You will find usually if there's an ignition related fault it will run fine on petrol but not on LPG so you have built in diagnostics  Regards - JB
  23. You will be delighted with your conversion, lpg is the cheapest way to run a petrol engine, I disagree that it will be considerably cheaper then a diesel to run, more like a little bit cheaper than a diesel to run. What size tank and what location of the tank have you chosen? If it's the spare wheel location I would feel uncomfortable with that but thats up to you and depends an awful lot on your useage. Make sure your chosen system is multipoint injection AND double check your ignition system is spot on, (LPG stresses the ignition system), and weaknesses will be spectacular to say the least! Regards - John
  24. Maybe, maybe NOT. I found a kit made by loctite (bought from halfrauds I think). It had a small mesh and a couple of tubes. Cut the mesh to size, mix the gunge, spread over the mesh and put the mirror on the screen. In took about a minute to grab and that was the last time I had to refit the mirror, i'd tried all sorts of pads before without success. The loctite stuff UV cures over 24 hours or so but is useable with care within 1 hour. Regards - John
