To turn off the mute you disconnect the wire from the mute input (it's usually grounded to make it go into phone mute mode. It's been discussed on here before, do a search and you should find the pinout info. Regards - John

The PHONE message means that the mute input has been operated. When you say it's very quiet, how quiet i.e. loud enough to hear whilst stationary or can only be heard with your ear up to the speaker. Does your gal have a seperate amp by any chance? Regards - John

Rear Door Area Internal Light Problem
johnb80 replied to a topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
On my Gal if interior lights are left on by a door being opened, they all switch off after 10 minutes. All the other interior lights stay on for about 30 seconds after closing the door(s) if the ignition is off, if the ignition is on they go off immediately. Finally, when the interior lights are on with doors closed during the timer period, locking the doors puts the lights out straight away. Hope this helps - JB -
The airflow from the intercooler is into the inlet manifold so why would EGR be responsible for the oily liquid? More likely the oily liquid is coming from the turbo seals assuming that it is the intercooler we're talking about here. It's not by anychance the Airconditioning condenser unit is it? That too sits at the front, looks like a radiator and would have an oily liquid going round. Regards - John

Life Expectancy Of A V6 Galaxy
johnb80 replied to danyoda1's topic in Questions about the Ford Galaxy
Not according to many others, Car Mechanics mag did a feature on the VR6 and the cam chain problem which is 'popular' around the 80,000 mark apparently. I have no experience of this myself as you are all aware I'm sure, I like the old oil birner. Regards - JB -
Electric Windows ? Problemo !
johnb80 replied to paulmpaciorek's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
My guess is that a door switch/ wiring is faulty. On the Gal if you hold the key over in the unlock position all of the windows will open. If you hold it over in the lock position all of the windows will close. My guess is that the switch for the opening is permanently in the operated position. Regards - John -
I'm also approaching new tyre time on the front (20,000 miles), I hate the tyre noise, whats the quietest tyres to fit ? Regards - John

Whilst I personally wouldn't use one, many people on here have used them with good results. There is a potential problem if your system has depressurised completely, you may have air and moisture in the system. If you simply add gas you will destroy it completely. My advice is to look in yellow pages for a Massey Ferguson dealer, they have more experience than most garages with automotive aircon (many tractors have had it fitted for years). My local dealer charged

Galaxy Ztec 2.3 Manual - Wiring For Towing
johnb80 replied to a topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Have a look at towsure, on mine they advised the relay unit (not expensive and works well). Regards - John -
Do any of you guys fancy having a shalaxy meet? Pick a pub, nice lunch etc etc. We did it with the Scorpio users and took the opportunity to have some experts present, there was an aircon guy busy recharging etc, a tuning expert advising all the Cosworth owners etc. It was a brilliant day. What do you think? (maybe the wrong thread here but never mind). Regards - JB

Delboyt, I received your PM but you have elected not receive PM replies! Here's my reply (your message first):- No problem at all, shame your figures couldn't have been right. If we ever get a Galaxy meeting together I'll buy you a pint and shake your hand OK? I do apologise for my tongue in cheek comments. Regards - JB

Well I DID pay

It depends on the bulb failure method used and I don't know which one it is on the Gal. Earlier Fords used a load balance eg the current to the nearside brake lamp was compared with the current to the offside one. Any difference indicated bulb failure. Others are preset eg, brake lamps should take 2 amps any more/less = problem. If it's the balance type it will work ok provided it can withstand the extra current. From my point of view I'd rather pay the

And your keep it clean explanation of your AVATAR is ????? :( What self respecting kid would go on this forum ? :(

Delboyt, I'm being serious here, you made fantastic claims about the magnificant plug/lead combination that you used that converted your 2 litre gas guzzler into a more frugal vehicle than a TDi, this surely is something that all petrol heads should know about. If the situation has changed then maybe you should inform everyone so that we all know what the best situation is. As far as me replying to posts, I don't recall you being appointed moderator, if you are then you should know better than the crude P.M.'s you have sent to me. If you've made an error in your calculations then say so, destroy the myth you created, there's no shame in that. Regards - John

I thought you were a lover of Halfords leads ? thay gave amazing fuel consumption ? ...... or was that someone else :( Regards - JB

Yes you do effectively connect this way but with a relay board in circuit so the extra load does NOT go through the bulb failure unit which may cause problems. I haven't tried connecting one up without a relay board, just took the advice of experts when I connected mine up. Towsure said it needed a 'full relay board' for all Galaxys with a bulb failure unit. The dashboard light needs enabling via Vag-Com, would you trust your dealer to do this simple task? Regards - John
-
Yep, thats PARALLEL connection.
-
Not quite right mate, in fact it's almost impossible to wire them in series due to the construction of the light cluster. What should be fitted is a RELAY unit that takes a 12v supply and then places a tiny load on the light circuit (only a few milliamps) to operate the relay. The trailer lighting is then fed from the seperate 12v source and thus doesn't trigger the bulb failure etc. Regards - John

VR6 you should know better, I ALWAYS listen to your every word, usually I then forget it, this time of course I have to agree with you :(

One of my mates is in middle management at B&Q, his merc is now on it's 3rd Autobox and the Climate Control is worse than the Gal for reliability. I must admit I was shocked when he told me, I always thought Merc's were a car to have for ever, they sem to have lost it in the last few years, seems to coincide when they duped all of their dealers. Don't really mean to rain on your parade, I hope yours is a good un. Regards - JB

If it's the casing where the timing chain is, it's likely that a chain guide has broken up. Chains, guides and tensioners are a known issue on the VR6's. I'm sure one of the other VR6 owners will comments real soon. Regards - JB

Hey come on guys, this is getting a little out of hand. Justice surely you can see the merits of the discussion i.e. someone who we don't know asks for a radio code and it's freely given from here. It totally defeats the code system. The ONLY point I tried to politely make was that perhaps we should find out a little more about unknowns before being so helpful. Mrnice, chances are you're an ok guy, but surely you can see the merits of the above, no-one accused you of being a theif simply that we don't know you at all. Regards - John
-
Sorry, I don't really see the link to potentially assisting a theif and a slightly funny signature. Don't worry Justice (pun intended with your handle?), you're not the first to 'help' and I'm sure you wont be the last. It's just the principle of the thing that I was highlighting. No offence intended against you personally just a general point. Regards - John
