  1. Finally sourced a clutchplate for the air con (it was attached to a brand new compressor) all for less than the price of the clutch kit from fords. A little tricky to tighten up but thats done. Looks like the clutch coil which was working til the old plate fell off is now not working - cltuch doesnt engage but get 13.2v ( no load ) at the connector on the compressor when set to auto and 0v when set to econ. Any other ideas - looks like swapping the whole compressor/clutch for the new one is likely to be the way to go (got a free fill up from a mobile aircon guy due) how easy is swapping the compressor? anybody done it themselvs - looks like relaese aux tensioner, remove the 2 air con pipes and unplug clutch, then unbolts compressor any thoughts/comments?
  2. actually I dont find the passenger seat difficult to turn at all, the drivers seat is a little more tricky but we still regularly swivel them when we have to picnic in the car in the winter or if caught in the rain... you do have to be careful getting the drivers seat turned back ... there is usually a pause in all conversation to see whether dad is going to get his chin clonked when he pulls the wrong handle to their general merriment :angry2:
  3. i've heard that at vw the linkage is cheaper, coincidentally I did mine this afternoon - cant believe it was working at all but now I remember how fast normal speed is now .. took just under 2 hours from scatch

  9. The clutch plate moves freely by hand, the splines are good and there is power going to the connector to the sie of the pulley. The Compressor pulley has no play. Not sure what else I can say. Thanks how do you know the splines are ok - did you take the clutch plate off? BTW if any of you reading this thread has a decent clutch plate of the splined variety (mk1 tdi had a keyed type) I would be very interested thank-you

  19. and make sure you check the drivers door as well you may have some sort of short or broken wire affecting the other doors you can get some weird unpredictable effects in this area check the faq - 31 43 and 44 iirc
  20. time to check for broken wiring in the door to piller looms - my old escort had swiches for the lights but the door open alert worked on the microswitch in the lock tself - maybe the gal is the other way around and the wire in the looms is a known issue and can cause all sorts of problems - soldered four the other day on my passenger near side rear door
  21. how long after posting did you try and edit? there is a time iirc to allow you to correct spellings but not allowing you to change your post in a heated discussion I dont know if this is your problem or not
