  1. searching ?????? its faq 56 and thats the temp sensor not the coolant level sensor
  2. Sorry that was an incomplete explanation :D I was being lazy (no comments from those wags who know my profession thank you  ) This is the situation here .... as a current I flows through a wire with resistance r the potential difference is used up... lost volts so that the voltage appearing at the end of the cable is the original voltage - lost volts. So assuming a perfect battery (no internal resistance) at 12V and a wire with a resistance of 1 Ohm(unrealistically high) an appliance drawing 2 amps the lost volts would be 2 x 1 = 2V so measuring the voltage at the end of the cable (socket) while appliance was working you would see 10V. To find the cuuent (in a simple way) you would divid the EMF (voltage at te battery with no current being drawn) by the total resistance so I=12/(internal r of battery + r of the cable +r of appliance). Assuming the only thing changing is the length of the cable ... as the cable gets longer r increases and so 12/(r+r+r) gets smaller so the current i gets smaller so less likely to blow fuse. As radiotwo says for the same power, using a lower voltage would need higher current P=IxV but this is more of a design constraint e.g. a 23W bulb on the mains would need about 0.1A but in a car at 12 it would need a current of 23/12 ... approximately 2A so in this case lower voltage would lead to higher current
  3. if the cable length to to the back is greater then the total resistance of the circuit would be bigger so the current drawn would be smaller :) so less likely to blow the fuse!! Any chance that there is anything in the pocket above the sockets that may be shorting out the sockets at the back and so blowing the fuse - do you keep the compressor in there?
  4. been losing water for a while - but no sogn of it .. just once in a while i get some on the ground - turns out two hoses at the back of engine have rubbed and worn through - pig to do though the 2 hoses are
  5. have a similar problem with my 2001 gal atm .. please let us know what the exact problem is if you find out - a bit strapped for cash atm so just refilling the bottle :-)
  6. My mk2 has a sports mode which when invoked (by push1ng the acceleratot pedal down quickly) tell the tcm to hold on to the higher gears until approx 4k revs before changing up - wonder if yours in sports mode permanently (if this applies on the mk1)
  7. Forum has been down but dont know any details
  8. get autobox oil changed ??
  9. ok post moved- duplicate deleted
  10. just to confirm .. they do fit the mk2 fine the only difference afaics is that the head rests dont have a hole in .. might be worth specifying colour and whether they have the slumber bar with them hth...
  11. you certain its not the battery?
  12. faq here items 45, 68 for wiper linkage check you brake lights work for cruise control :16:
  13. same symptoms - same age car - partly seized linkage - specificlly spindles --- although the mechanical advantage from motor to wipers must be huge since i still needed to pound spindles out .. could not move them by hand could only just tap them around with a hammer
  14. engine/transmission went into limp home mode I guess but why ... possible the problem is a turbo vane problem where they have coked up .. look in stickies under external links where DT1 has posted an epic tale about tis to quote his opening paragraph
  15. have a look at this thread.....
  16. apparently now sold
  17. if the problem only occurs at low speed/engine revs then its likely to be a leak... there is a non-return valve somewhere in the bowels (I have yet to find it) and apparently it cracks and leaks vacuum(if such a thing can be said) its an easy fix apparently but i have not yet seriously looked for it
  18. thanks mike - was this from under the car or can you get it out from above (with airbox removed) .. the age of cars that I used to work on - tensioning the aux belt usually meant loosening the alternator how does the tensioner work (can probably figure it out but like to know before I start)?
  19. BJ - clutch has voltage when aircon on auto but clutch doesnt engage (0v when on econ mode) so either the coil has burnt out or there is a mechanical problem with clutch plate/pulley system
  20. don't hold you breath gregers the clutch kit is
