  1. Although you say you were doing 15 mph Maz, this was obviously still too fast. The first reaction of anyone new to driving is to brake and thats where you lost traction. A lot of people think that ABS is there to stop them more quickly which is not the case, particularly in inclement weather. I did exactly what happened to you a while back in a 2 week old Mitsubishi and felt exactly the same. So what should you do? Perhaps others would like to correct me but, how I drive may be totally different to how others drive in these conditions so I dont expect anyone to follow my advice; If the ground is slippery when walking to the car? .... yes ...... do I really need to drive? Always try and prevent the wheels from spinning when accelerating away .... change gear as quickly as possible to prevent loss of traction (pulling away in second is usual). Always drive at a speed to match the road conditions ...if the car is "twitching" then you are driving too fast but do not brake, just take your foot off the throttle gently. As you approach a bend, change into an appropriate gear and brake gently BUT do not brake whilst on the bend ...... if you feel the car skidding then steer into the skid but again do not apply the brakes and take your foot off the throttle gently. If ever you do have to apply the brakes hard, the ABS is only there to help you steer when the wheels want to skid .... you will feel the ABS cut in when the brake pedal starts to move up and down slightly and it will feel and sound very rough ..... just concentrate on steering out of trouble. If you dont have ABS then by using cadence braking ..i.e. on / off repeatedly, you can steer out of trouble. There are many other techniques to deal with various conditions but hopefully others may like to add their own ideas. Remember if you're skidding then you're going to fast. Chris
  2. Hiya Lee ...... mmmmm the S-max? ...Poor mans Galaxy isnt it? .... Anyway welcome m8 and look forward to your input.
  3. Just a smattering here ...... typical! ...just started to throw it down now Im in work....
  4. Sounds reasonable Daz ..... I wonder how many of us would have known that. Seems pointless fitting an oil dipstick these days ...... oh I know .... The dipsticks for him and the "check oil level" for her ..... :22: :35:
  5. Sounds to me like the throttle position sensor as i had a similar problem on my Mondeo .... dont quote me but there are numerous things that could cause these symptoms ...... checked all the vacuum pipes?
  6. Bleeno, that is correct for oil pressure. The warning Maz is getting is oil level, different sender. Maz, I believe that the Galaxy with the 115 & 130 engines, which are VW engines, use the VW oil level sensor. This does not have a float sensor, it uses oil temperature to evaluate level. I'm not going to go too deep technically, but when the light comes on it usually needs some driving mileage after topup to extinguish it. My suggestion is, as it only came on last night, to go out and give it a run and then try it. You maybe replacing a sender that doesn't need replacing. Thanks Daz ..... so if the car loses oil pressure what warning is displayed?
  7. If you dont get any responses m8 ..... just add your own reply to the same thread and stick the "BUMP" text in the box .... that'll keep it on the board so people get a chance to have a look and reply.
  8. IIRC this beast only has an oil pressure switch. A single wire connects it to earth via the switch so if the pressure is low switch closes, makes the circuit and puts the light on.
  9. Hee ar Maz ....... this will give you an idea if you fancy doing a pre-mot yourself http://www.ukmot.com/checklist/motcheck/motcheck_body.htm
  10. Do that and they'll do the service for you! ...... now there's an idea ..... I wonder if I flutter my eyebrows to my boss, he'll let me off for the rest of the week?
  11. Thanks for that Matt ...... so Taz you can change change the speakers as suggested and add a sub-woofer as Matt has.
  12. Might be worth borrowing a drip tray from one of the fat albert teckies Maz then you drain the lot into it without having to raise the car.
  13. Yes I'm thinking about a sub-woofer but an active one I can stick under a seat ..... i'd want to use a pre-amp output on my head unit though Matt as you used a HI-LO converter from one of the speaker outputs, yea? Just need to find out whether mine has a pre-amp output. Any suggestions Matt?
  14. thanks mate, will check it out tomorrow. MJR As well as play in the wheel Matt, you will feel a "notchy" feeling as you rotate the wheel slowly.
  15. Just like to thank you for your expertise littledaz ..... thanks m8
  16. Not going to tell you anything now I know you're a Man Utd supporter! .....
  17. Hi Taz ....... No need to replace the tweeters up the front or in the rear passenger doors. I just did a straight swap using 4 Sony XSF 1727's (2 way) and what a difference! .... If you have a look at FAQ's you'll find how to remove the door cards ...... just get yourself some yellow clips from Frauds......think about a fiver for 25. The Sony speakers were
  18. Pretty certain the Bulldog will fit yours as the arms that wrap around the rear of the wheel at 12, 7 and 5 oclock positions can be individually mounted and then secured using the main central nut on the front. I cant see how they will snag the mover motor as the arms themselves are only about 8mm wide. Bloody heavy though and can bite your fingers if you're not careful .... hope that helps. Chris
  19. Maz ...... if I wasn't working I would be pleased to help you ...... thought about a pre-MOT check? That will give you an idea on costs if anything needs to be done. Chris
  20. and you're still happy ?   Oh yes Nik ..... arn't you? :D
  21. Still no complaints whatsoever about mine ..... must have a good one ...... i think it depends on the driver ...mmmm
  22. agree with me???blimey..i said summit right? :D :D Surely if it was a turbo problem..it would happen at all speeds?..not just fast speed? Could it be fuel injector thingywhateveritis? Not speed related Maz .... rev related if the turbo's at fault ..... numerous things to check first before considering the Turbo. I had a look at some of the previous posts regarding turbo problems. Could try the boost control valve or the T-MAP sensor first as it appears the turbo is overboosting ..... any thoughts?
  23. With an extremely light pair of weighing scales and a big net Maz
  24. Blue is the colour, football is the game, we're all together and WINNING is our aim, so cheer us on through the sun and rain, cos Chelsea .....Chelsea is our name! Good game mate ..thoroughly deserved the win and I wish all games were like that. Be interesting now JT's back and Ashley's out for a while. Cmon we need Joe and Robben back quick!!!
