Back in February of this year I agreed to help my 18 year old son buy a second hand Rover 25 which has been more trouble than its worth and because of the Rover 25's reputation, I persuaded him to pay the extra

Engine Warning Light - Orange
Smilge replied to fclauson's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
I know Francis ..... Don't believe everything a "quick diagnosis" on the fault readers give you as I found out from my own experience. I've worked a long time on really complicated digital systems and most of the time faults are usually "soft" latched where the system is confused due to a glitch or a software bug. Its the hard latched ones where you need to worry as warning lights never go out or you know something is wrong. How many times have you rebooted your computer and its sorted itself out? -
Accelerator Cable And Butterfly Thingy..
Smilge replied to mumof4's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Wait a mo Mum ........ mmmmm ...rough running at idle ......rattling ?? Chromedome could be right here with getting the ignition timing checked as if it was out it could cause ignition knock or "pinking" which sounds very much like a rattle particularly when the engine is under load ...ie when you stick your foot down. What do reckon gents? -
A wife and 4 screaming girls!!!!!!? ........ good luck matey in Devon ...... me thinks you'll need another break when you get back. I've got to do the same job on mine as the same problem was picked up on the MOT ...... good result for you anyway.

Accelerator Cable And Butterfly Thingy..

I would tend to agree with Simply_Graham regarding the idle control valve sticking as most single point injection systems on the Vauxhall suffer from the same problem ...also sticky EGR valves are notorious and in fact the cars are known to run much better without them and still pass the emissions test. -

One of my work colleagues brought me a disc in and I thought I should share this fantastic bit of software that will sort a lot of your computer problems out. Just click on the link and download the files that will enable you to create Hiren's BootCD 9.1. Enjoy! http://homepage.ntlworld.com/hiren.thanki/bootcd.html

Thanks Baz ..... advice noted

Car passed its MOT last Friday with just 3 advisories: Antirollbar bushes on both sides slight play. Offside CV boot split. The rollbar bushes are no problem but the CV boot will mean having to pull the driveshaft ...... anyone done this? ...... I assume its a similar procedure to most other cars ..... anything I need to watch out for?

How Hard Is It To A Diesel Engine For A 01 Mondeo
Smilge replied to bigted's topic in Technical Section (Mondeo)
I wouldn't bother buying it if it needs an engine bigted ..... there are plenty out there with good engines and at a reasonable price. I had a mk3 TDCI for 4 years and never once had a problem with it .... mind you i did get it serviced every year. It went like the clappers to! -
Standard Of Driving In This Country

Boy racers? ....... What about the young girls driving around like Michelle Schumaker? and agressive ...... -
Dont bother with the ST200 Whitty ..completely gutless and more than likely will have had the B*******S revved out of it to get any reasonable acceleration. My Mk111 TDCI had more go in it than the ST200

Spongey, Smelly Brakes
Smilge replied to bob1234's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
I would also check for fluid leaks around the piston areas as a static leak could deposit a small amount of fluid onto the discs. The smell could be the fluid being burnt off the disc. I had to do my sons rear drum brakes on his Fiesta the other month and couldn't believe what I found when I removed the drum! Both slave cylinder seals had gone so I replaced both cylinders. -
Anything would look good in yours ...........

Just a little advice on using the cruise control from my experience: Set speed ............. A single quick press on the SET part of the rocker switch. Increase speed .................... press and hold the RESUME or + part of the switch until desired speed reached Reduce speed ................... press and hold the SET or - part of the switch until desired speed reached To resume set speed .............. A single quick press on the RESUME part of the rocker switch. To cancel all ........ select switch to off or touch the clutch or brake pedal To set new speed whilst pressing + or - ............ release and repeat with a quick press of the SET button All agree? -
