I'm Car Hunting......any Suggestions?
Smilge replied to mumof4's topic in General Discussion and Nonsense
blue smoke on start up ...... mmmmm ...it's not burning oil is it? Did you notice any blue clouds looking through the rear view mirror specifically when the engines running on when you slow down from speed and take your foot off the gas? The way of checking is to rev the nuts off it when its hot and look to see whats coming out of the exhaust. Blue smoke .....no thanks. -
Isn't it an intelligent system that looks at the way you drive it? .... Yes you can reset it by pressing and holding the odometer reset button then turning on the ignition.

Well I never! ...Gadgetoid ... I never knew that matey and guess what .. I now know what the GPS antenna /aerial on the roof is for. I dont have the TMC unit but I don't think I do enough mileage to justify it anyway. Agree with you on the MFD Version D fitted to Fords to.

Whitty ...I've had a look and its nothing like my Witter. Basically what you are looking at is the Swan neck that attaches to yours via four bolts. Mine has a swan neck but is only attached using two bolts that are horizonatally positioned compared with yours. Below the two holes, in the middle about 1/2 inch down, is an elongated hole with nothing in it. Sorry but I didnt have my camera with me to show you.

Running Hot Over 70mph !
Smilge replied to cartman's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Right gents ..... If I was in the same boat I would go and get the system pressurised by a professional which would highlight the problem. Sounds more and more like the head gasket is leaking gases into the coolant system. The pressure check will confirm this. -
Sounds like it needs a noise suppressor on the power input lines to the Unit matey. These are just in line electronic filters ...take it back and ask for noise interference suppressors to be fitted.

mmmmm ..well that was an interesting read .... ^_^ I'm still a little confused on this "burping" method. I prefer the "farting" method myself ..... it tends to annoy people without arguing the fact and when you earn as much as I do, then trip computers are as much use as a trap door in a canoe. ^_^

Assa, if you noticed that adapter lead I showed you earlier on will fit your CD changer......that would be good dont you think? As far as speakers are concerned the Sony ones I fitted to mine were 17cm and fitted perfectly ...xsf 1724's IIRC ..... wot a difference to! Bought myself a clarion sub-woofer that sits under the my seat ..... Sounds really "punchy" now .... ^_^ No there's only one behind each grill matey.....labour???? ...do it yourself mate its not hard and the info off here will give you a starter for 10. I'm not that far from you either if you have any problems.

Possible head gasket Tim .....I would go with the water pump ..... It all went wrong from that point on. -

It may be something as simple as the expansion tank cap not sealing correctly bearing in mind everything else has been changed Cartman. Could even be air in the system as these things are a bugger to bleed from all accounts. -
Give us a shout if you have any problems on setup when you get the disc Tiny.

Try changing the thermostat to start with as thats probably the cheapest option and pretty easy. -
Running Hot After Standing
Smilge replied to marinabrid's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
mmmmm ....dunno then Martin. One thing though you could try, when the engines cold start her up and run for a couple of minutes, but not long enough for her to get hot, then undo the expansion cap and see if you get a rush of air pressure then have a look to see if you have air bubbles coming up into the tank. I would still go for the stat to start with. -
Tend to agree with you here JK ....I think IIRC someone mentioning 68mph on motorways was the optimum cruising speed for a 1.9TDi.

Good possibility Martin ...... trouble is they tend to seize open making the engine run cold. With you losing oil from the turbo oil pipe .... how long did you run the engine with it leaking on the way home from holiday? ..mmmm .... could have done some damage. I'm thinking head gasket ..that can cause the engine to run hot ...mmmmm.... -
Crazy Cup-holder Position
Smilge replied to jackthehat.co.uk's topic in What thing irritate you about your Galaxy
I dont think banning smoking while driving will ever happen!! ..... I need at least 10 fags on the way to work (4 miles) just to prevent me from going harpic with all the idiots on the road these days. Just think of the increase in road rage attacks! -
Helooh Truthspeak ....dansk de pourneska commy Galaxy kursk silinski mate!

Did my passenger side a few weeks back after i reversed into the gate. Rapid araldite is still holding the whole thing together although it no longer folds backwards. Once it was glued I helt it by wrapping a belt around it. Sorted and didnt cost me

Assa .... mmmm ..see what you're saying. I dont think the new unit will fit unless there are facia kits already available. There are plenty of adapter interfaces available ..... here's an example of what you are looking for: http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/changer-in...es-c-11_87.html You also might like to PM Steve67car who does this for a living ..... I'm sure he'll be able to help you. Good luck mate

Yes it does Jimbo but only the RDS function. Have a look at what it can do http://www.fordgalaxy.org.uk/ford/index.ph...amp;#entry97838

Just had a quick surf and found these for the P1246 fault code ....they might help Generator circuit short to GND Generator circuit short to PWR Generator circuit open Generator drive mechanism Damaged generator/regulator assembly Damaged PCM I'd suggest you start by having your battery load tested. Even though your alternator seems to be working fine, the battery may not have the capacity to supply various instantaneous loads from the car's accessories. If the voltage drops below 10.5 V, that could explain the surge in engine speed, two codes related to a possible damaged PCM (goes into an unknown state temporarily when the battery voltage drops) and the "Check Charging System" indication. Is the battery the original battery? If so, you may as well just replace it. Often times a person is lucky to get 5 years or more out of a standard lead acid battery. Bingo! Recalls June 1999: Alternator short-circuit on cars built from June 1998 to April 1999. Might be worth seeing if yours had the recall ...... gonna have a quick shuffty Owners are being asked to return their cars to their nearest dealer, where the alternator cap will be replaced free. It should take less than an hour. The fault affects only models made between September 1998 and March this year (1999). It has been eliminated in cars built since then.
