Air Con Fault And No Cruise Control
mikej replied to simonashley's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Hi mate i only get a very faint single click when activating the cruise at the stalk , its not one of the two pedal switches faulty and deactivating the cruise is it as you will hear another click if you were to tap one of those shortly after activation ??? As for locating the dreaded cruise control module i think its tucked away above the clutch pedal high up , i spent days trying to locate it and its deffo not behind the stereo on the mk2. best of luck ......... p.s are you sure you have located all the leaks in the pipework????? mike. -
A Little Rough On Start Up
mikej replied to mikej's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Sorry to drag this up again but this has me stumped as it only occurs from a cold start and lasts no longer than a minute of driving after which the car drives A1 on petrol or gas recently drove a few hundred miles on petrol and car doesn't miss a beat , ticks over perfect , pulls well or as well as any normal 2.3 . If as already mentioned its blocked injectors , which it could well be as a result of lack of use would it only last a minute or so from a cold start ? Does anyone know the price of replacement injectors for the mk2 2.3 16v or recommend any cleaning service provider and a rough cost for servicing them ? Any help would be gratefully appreciated ..... mike. :angry2: -
Misfires On Petrol Engines
mikej replied to marcr's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
A good idea for us petrol heads but could we include lpg'd galaxy's as well or am i the only one ? I have to admit the thought of fault finding on a diesel scares me and my pocket even more , one of the reasons i side with petrol , simple to fault find and a dam sight cheaper to repair i would have thought ! :D -
Computer Display Acting Up!

Quote I doubt very much that the cable is actually U/S. Was thinking more along the lines a new cable may come with a new glue strip etc or simply replace the existing one by soldering a small ribbon cable to the pc as it doesn't look too difficult a job , low power iron , fine tip and a lense ? or some may argue that it maybe less hassle to locate a cheap working second hand unit . P.S However if someone is willing to donate a previously working unit i am more than willing to give it a go  ???? -
Computer Display Acting Up!
mikej replied to geoffc's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Sorry mate no pics as its completely dead (gone) Very strange mind as some have suggested or mentioned about it occuring during heat changes as my own first started acting up on a really really hot day returned to normal for a while and later dissapeared on another really hot day , could be coincidence but it got me thinking along the lines of a poor solder joint or as you say poor connection through the ribbon cable , anyhow going to purchase some freezer spray and have a play , may even remove and resecure cable if the spray don't show anything , keep you informed . mike.... Ex Sony electronics engineer although too long ago now to be of any use lol.... p.s What about sourcing a replacement cable (manufacturer etc) or even replacing it with some ribbon , can't be that hard ?? -

Mirez , have you actually fixed one yet mate working on this cable , if not why do suspect this . I totally agree with you about it being a stupid way of making contact in this instance mind . Already had a look at the pcb and could not see any other issues apart from this connection ! mike........ -
Air Con Fault And No Cruise Control
mikej replied to simonashley's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Thats the reciever / drier tube and yes its attatched to your condensor ( smaller aircon rad , the main coolant radiator is fitted behind this ) just replaced mine , if you fire up your aircon and run it flatout for a few mins then pour a little light oil like 3in1 or lighter etc into the top of the tube while its running , have a look for small bubbles or any sort of fizzing from around the circlip this is where mine was leaking and must be 99% of all others leak , very common fault on the galaxy, sharan etc . A new unit is easy to fit if you can use a spanner and the cost of a new condensor which comes complete with a new reciever/drier , already installed i might add is approx -

Oh dear  could it be the dreaded wiper mechanism seizure ? had that already stripped and rebuilt last year ! if i'm being honest i'd be bored if this car behaved although the bloody aircon is emptying my wallet ! -

Congratulations mate now lets see if you use it as much as you think lol . As for the new and old pumps looking different , when i replaced mine last year mine were the same and i had exactly the same thought proberly just an updated unit! you do know something else will break now don't you ! mike.. -
You may not have enough or any gas left in the system to allow the compressor to kick in , check the gas quantity first !

Did you change the main cable from the alternator at the same time , i hope so or you will no doubt be purchasing another fuse box very soon lol.... :23:

What Have They Done To My Car?

Timing timing timing had the same issue some time ago with another garage thankfully they put it right , i also wouldn't pay them a penny untill they put it right ! :23: -
Quote : I'm pretty sure that the cable from battery to the auxiliary fusebox comes with the new fusebox. It does indeed come with the new fuse box....

A Little Rough On Start Up
mikej replied to mikej's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
I thought it may be something along these lines , petrol is fresh , refilled tank twice this week and car runs fine . Have just done 500 miles on petrol with no real difference although car was obviously warm by then , however i was thinking the lack of use may be the issue , i thought i may start with the fuel filter first though . Funny how its old when starting from cold and it only lasts a few minutes then its fine again ! -
MK2 2.3 GHIA 2001 MANUAL , I seem to have developed a small problem as off late to go with all the other small problems these cars have lol . Any how my gal is lpg converted which means on startup it starts on petrol and carries out a few checks throughout the gas system together with waiting for the car to achieve 51 degrees before automatically switching to gas , the car runs as sweet as a nut on both gas and petrol and you cannot notice any difference at all between switching even manually however when starting first thing in the morning or even when the car has been left for a good few hours etc it runs rough untill warm or swiched to gas , the best way off describing this is for those of you who are old enough to remember manual chokes , it feels like driving a manual choke car on a cold morning with the choke in , you really have to feather the throttle as not to bunny hop up the road too much or too little and its as rough as a bears behind untill its warm then its fine , it almost feels like its runnig with a misfire however all plugs and leads are good and its not exactly under load when just started ! and if i boot it it respnds without any issues ? Anyone any ideas or suggestions pleas???????? :)

Cruise Control 2.3 Petrol
mikej replied to mikej's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
On my own mk2 2.3 ghia there was indeed a little light that used to light up on the dash clocks ( rev conter side i think ) this dissapeared when my cruise died and didn't return even after i managed to repair it , it maybe connected to the little red dash computer that displays your average speed/mpg etc as this also dissapeared about the same time and still hasn't reappered ? :) -
Door Wiring - How To Fix?
mikej replied to JohnR's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
John , firstly i'm not quite sure what you mean regarding the plug crimp so don't shoot me down just yet , a mate of mine came to me years ago and asked me to have a look at his electric window as it was u/s , basically the main steeler wanted to charge him for a new regulator and motor + labour etc without even taking the door panel off ? anyhow it turned out he had a broken wire at the rear of the large plug which i managed to repair using a darning needle of similar diameter and snipped to length . Basically i soldered the wire onto the rear of it and pushed it through the existing crimp , leaving a short length protruding and the door side of the plug just pushed onto it if this makes any sense to you ? It lasted as long as he owned the car a cost less than a penny to do , much better than the hundreds of pounds the dealer wanted to charge anyway. :) -

Air Con Problem Diagnosis
mikej replied to spongebob_antspants's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
quote Looking in the engine bay from the front, the pipe from the compressor on the right will get HOT and the larger pipe on the left will get VERY COLD with some condensation forming on the outside. Right can some clear this up for me as i am a little confused now ( it don't take much i know ) my car ia a 2001 2.3 petrol gal mk2 , standing outside the car looking into the engine bay right at the front are the two pipes to refill or vaccume out the aircon , i have one THIN alloy aircon pipe on the LEFT and a LARGER aircon pipe on the RIGHT this one i ssummed to be the high pressure one from the compressor as it enters the condensor at the top , anyhow when buying a topup can of refrigerant from say Halfrauds , this can will only fit the THIN pipe on the LEFT am i right in assuming it doesn't matter which side of the compressor you add it as this i thought was the low pressure side ? also which pipe should get hot , the larger on the right or the smaller on the left ? Finally i have climate control which i have been told before this is NOT dual aircon even though you have controls for it on the aircon panel apparently its only to recirculate the air. So do i fill the system with the 700 +50g's or 1050 + 50g's , i am about to fit my second condensor /reciever/drier in a week (see other aircon post) and will get the system vacc'd out for approx 45mins before its refilled , apparently the system should contain 200mls of oil also for the compressor , is this to be added on top of the refridgerant figure??? B) :angry2:  -
Air Con Problem Diagnosis
mikej replied to spongebob_antspants's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Now your A/C is working I would be interested to know something (as I believe the statement made by Mirez about hot pipes is incorrect). I think you may have misunderstood what he is saying is that if the pressure is down then the compressor won't kick in and hence you will not get one hot pipe or indeed a cold pipe ! :angry2:
