Power Steering Clunk
mikej replied to surreyranger's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
 My how times have changed there was a time when a Skoda wouldn't last 3 years sorry i just couldn't resist it. -
 Sorry i couldn't resist trying it lol , i knew as soon as i slagged off the diesels that would be it and yep i was right it happens on every bloddy forum! anyhow for those who asked i am well happy with the gas system and i really don't know why more people don't do it apart from those who don't do the miles . To be honest i have no idea what a tdi can achieve so i can't really comment , for me i initially didn'y buy a diesel as i thought i would not be doing the miles and couldn't justify the difference in price however i was wrong and do more miles than ever hence the decision to gas it . I fill every week at the Asda at cardiff gate junction 31 M4 for those visiting wales @39.9p/litre , i can never get anymore than 58litres in the tank and it never costs me more than

LPG running costs as good as aTDI your avin a laugh ! :( :D i have a 2001 2.3 twin cam running on a sequential gas system, show me a diesel that can match my mpg i think not. I laugh at them all at the pumps petrols and the smelly oil burners LPG can be had for as little as 33p/litre although it averages 40p . miles cheaper than the smelly diesel more reliable and far far less bloody trouble as far as i'm concerned you should all be running gas especially you dirty dirty diesel people.

Thanks all sorted at last.

Hi all can someone please clarify if the tyres fitted to the galaxy should be either REINFORCED or EXTRA LOAD tyres ? i have Dunlops 2020's at the moment and these are reinforced but i hear some people talking about fitting extra load can this be done ?????

Hi all just a little note to all you people who are thinking of looking at this filter /dryer leak , i was doing some work on the gal today and thought i would try and have a go at removing the black cap from the filter dryer to see if i too had the leak as i am slowly loosing gas . What i found was i was able to remove the cap no problem without removing the front bumper , simply remove the 4 screws from the top of the front grill and pull slightly forward no effort at all the cap could be removed with ease .This was on my 2001 gal mind unsure what is involved on other models.Anyhow i noticed alot of green coloured crust under the cap around the circlip but was unable to get any bubbles when the system was running or not , my aircon is running but is not very cold at all even after a recent regass .I know i am slowly leaking gas but no other signes of leak , is it likely to be this even though no bubbles etc and does it mean a full condensor replacement or could i get away with a new filter /dryer ? what would you people do and is your aircon COLD COLD or are they all like mind and cool????????

Hi 28VR6 firstly my car is 2.3 ghia petrol july 2001 mk2 removed stereo again and all switches from left side of center switch panel cannot see any scm at all in fact all i can see is the side of the glove box and a big blank space but no module at all . Only purple wire i have going to the stereo is a single purple wire on a five pin yellow plug other 4 pins of plug have no wires and are blank , whilst this is clipped to the rear of the stereo it does not actually plug into it or anything else its just clipped to the back of the 2005 stereo , cannot hear any relay switching at all when i activate the stalk switch , its totally dead also checked every fuse in fuse box and all ok including fuse 3 (5A) is it possible that this scm is fitted elsewhere on this year/model i am totally stumped as where to start hence i mentioned the trying at the pump earlier .To be honest i am not even sure what i should check for there only a 12V supply maybe?. I had a gas conversion done in march and asked the guy if the cruise would still work after the conversion (before i bought a new pump) as i thought the cruise worked on a vacuum as does the gas system he assured me it would work as before as my car can run on either gas/petrol and it wouldn't affect the cruise. I know it worked before i changed the pump hence totaly confused as where to start. mike.......

28VR6 , thanks for all the info ! Problem is after removing the stereo i cannot find any sign of a scm or box with lead behind it anywhere ? if i was to try for +V at the pump itself would the car not have to be travelling at 30mph or above for the cruise to work or would the switch on the stalk once activated be sufficent ? would the power wire be brown/red ? thanks again for your help mike........

Hi has anyone ever removed the clocks from a mk2 gal if so how difficult is it or how the hell do they come out ? i have removed the two torx screws from beneath the clocks without removing the steering wheel but unsure how the clocks actually lift out and don't want to force them although i think they may be u/s as computer has packed in again? anyone any ideas ? thanks mike....

Thanks for your reply , double checked the new pump today and its the same type and fitted correctly , fuse is also ok its bloody typical that it worked before , all i,ve done is replaced the u/s pump and now it don't .I don't have a ford TIS but am no stranger to a multimeter so will have to get some diagrams from somewhere cannot hear any relay switching behind radio but to be honest don't think i did before has to be something stupid or hope it is . Is there a way of checking voltage at the pump itself? thanks mike...... p.s sorry car is 2001 petrol and gas converted 2.3 twin cam

Hi all just fitted a new pump today as old one full of water and seized although it did actually work for some months it eventually gave up .Anyway fitted new one in approx 10 mins but it don't work i noticed when comparing both that the new one had an aditional pipe fitted ie if you look at this picture you will see the white outlet has no pipe on it as per my old pump but the new one has and this basically runs to the same point as the pipe above it or it plugs in right next to it .Anyone any idea what it is should it be there or do i need it , could this be why it isn't working or could it be a blown fuse etc from running the old rusted pump , is there a fuse for the pump any suggestions welcome?

I know this won't help you any but i had mine checked and regassed last week

Hi all does the aircon have its own fan maybe on the condensor etc ? only just had my system recharged and have noticed a fan running after engine is stopped , only for a few seconds mind ! never noticed this before and just wondering if its normal after using the aircon or if the extra load is causing engine fan to kick in . Second question has anybody had a new clutch fitted by a main dealer if so what was the damage / price ? and guarentee with it? thanks again mike.j MK2 GAL 2001 2.3 TWIN CAM with gas .

Excellent thanks for advice and diagram really must get a TIS disc , belt replaced less than 2k miles hence poss idler etc , i know i should have mentioned this. mike......
-
Hello all do any of you have a diagram to show the path of the aux belt and associated components , i have a sqeeling noise on start up and think it may be idler or tensioner if someone with a TIS disc could post up a diagram that would be great failing that can anyone shed some light on possible causes from thier own experience. MK2 GAL 2001 2.3 PETROL . thanks mike.....

Washed Engine Now Wont Start
mikej replied to suzuki91's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Clicking sound in my experience if the engine is NOT turning over will be coming from the starter motor not engageing possible solenoid failure /sticking bendix etc try tapping the starter motor with the handle of a hammer or if its easier put it in gear and rock the car back and forth a few feet , put back in neutral and try turning over ! best of luck mike.... -
In my opinion unless your car is already designed to run on or has been modded and remapped to benefit from the higher octane fuels you are doing nothing more than wasting your pennies , it makes no sense whatsoever to put a premium fuel in a bog standard car if the ecu is not mapped to accomidate to extra bang . Having run some big power motors in the past and spent all my spare cash on fuel i can honestly say thank god for a gassed galaxy @ 39.9p/litre.
-
I must be lucky as i don't have any pealing or marks on my 2001 ghia alloys (Gassed and giving an equivalent of 57 mpg around town not bad from a 2.3 bus !)

Mumof4 please don't take this the wrong way but before you start chopping things up are you 100% sure its the wrong one and its not just the regulator in the wrong position ie as it goes up and down the length of the arms will change as these slide along the glass runner , the position of the hole centers will move unless riveted/bolted in place , I THINK please someone correct me if i am wrong .Its a pitty your not closer i would do it for you. mike.......
-
I thought the window regulator was riveted in from what i remember so you'll need a drill and rivet gun at least , not the easiest of jobs from what i recall although never done the galaxy have done many a ford in the past .Then again i could be completely wrong and it may be different on the Gal and an absolute doddle.

Hi rudders not sure which model you have but i have the 2.3 twin cam mk2 and have had the the usual sticking starter motor . On startup when the key is released you will get a horrible noise for a few seconds after this is truly the starter sticking however do not go out and buy a new one as there is no need ! if you remove it from the car take it apart and clean it , remove all the carbon dust from the brushes and generally give it a good clean lightly lube the shaft and gears and all will be well for a few years when you may have to do it again. i can asure you if you can use a spanner it is simple to do .To strip, clean and rebuild takes no longer than 20 mins and that is being thorough mind.As far as it sticking when driving i have never heard of this and would be a little concerned or do you mean it never realesed on startup and you drove it anyway ? I have had a noise form the front of the car when driving which sounds idential to the startermotor but this i'm sorry to say was the aircon compressor siezing , again i was lucky and had the system regassed and some oil added this freed the compressor and saved me a fortune . Hope this helps.

mikej replied to mikej's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
WOW what can i say about LPG apart from i wish i'd done it years ago as i may add a few of you have already said . I had the latest sequential Romano system fitted at a cost of -
Hi all , does anybody have an idea on the cost of a new pump (the one fitted behind the nearside indicator) mine is u/s and needs replacing ? thanks in advance mike......
