  1. BEWARE NO ROOF VENTS NO DUAL AIRCON, 700+- 25g is correct fill. As already mentioned it sounds like the compressor is u/s, i have had the same thing a few times now the clutch will engage and all seems normal but no cool air, i removed my last compressor in may, everything looked normal the pully was turning although it felt rough but it was stuffed inside, a new compressor sorted it . mike..
  2. Ebay is your best bet unless you want to pay the earth !
  3. Don't the VW and Audi rims fit ?
  4. John don't ever listen to me mate lol  i know that the price of the pipe is a little steep but in Galaxy aircon terms you got away lightly, still glad it's fixed mate. Till next time
  5. As the big man himself has said above resiter pack and belt !
  6. QUOTE thanks mike - was this from under the car or can you get it out from above (with airbox removed) .. the age of cars that I used to work on - tensioning the aux belt usually meant loosening the alternator how does the tensioner work (can probably figure it out but like to know before I start)? Firstly remember mine was a 2.3 petrol not diesel. All under the car except when removing/refitting belt as a little fiddley to get it over pulleys and out the way due to fat fingers lol. loosening the alternator belt, we must be the same age then ;) The tensioner is spring loaded and a socket and wrench from within the wheel arch will do it (no need to remove the wheel) as you only slacken it for a second, belt off and let it spring back, simple honest ! NOTE Make sure you draw a little diagram of the path the belt takes prior to removal, so much easier than trying to figure it out later. :(
  7. Try aircon auto down in Port Talbot South Wales, they are an aircon company local to me and have always been very competitive on price for me anyway together with very good service
  8. Not sure which you have petrol or diesel but changed a 2.3 compressor last week and it was a piece of cake, really is no big deal, release aux belt tension and off with the belt, , two bolts to remove the shield from the pump 10mm i think, two aircon pipes off, one bolt on each and four bolts that hold the compressor on and off it comes ! you are not suppose to release the aircon gas to the air as it don't do the planet any good or so i was told, but if you ain't bothered about the planet and don't wanna suck on the gas you could just press on the pipe valve and out it will come! ;) but that is your choice. Before i get slated my system was empty already... mike... p.s don't forget your new o ring seals which you should buy from VW not Frawds as they are much cheaper, pence !
  9. QUOTE However, on mine the cap is fixed on with a central Torx screw Pretty sure it's the same as mine which also said don't remove, it's more of a dust cap as it's only a cover and shouldn't cause you any problems, if you don't take it off then you will never know if it's gone or not so it's upto you really ? :(
  10. quote ,I'll be doing a write up and let you all know how it goes, but to be honest it's a simple job to do yourself. Sorry i think i need to make it a little clearer, this is a company i was looking at to purchase the cat from not fit it, been a fitter for 26 years and it's an exhaust lol :(
  11. Hi John, sorry mate i don't have the car with me at the moment but from what i can remember you will have to remove the torx's you mentioned and remove the bumper , to do this i think it's 3 torx's either side of the bumper under the wheel arch, if you follow the bumper ends you should see them going through the wheel arc liners, then go underneath at the front and remove the, i think three bolts securing the bumper to the under tray, don't forget to push the bonnet opener through the grill when removing it ( it will come off attached to the bumper) The bumper really does come off easy. You should be able to manouver the cap off then. Note if you want to replace the condensor you will have to remove the bumper bar ( large steel bumper) from behing the plastic bumper also the two aircon pipes, i think on the right of the condensor. Be aware i drilled a couple of holes in the plastic cross member to get a socket on the top two 10mm bolts holding the condensor on! John i have done this job twice now and can do it in under 45 mins however it was over a year ago so i may have missed something. Actually thinking about it are you sure that once you remove the torx's from the top of the grill you cannot lift and pull the grill forward enough to get the cap off, if not then try the above. sorry i can't be of anymore help mate but as said i don't have the car with me mike.... Biscuit is talking about is the same regarding the leak, top of the reciever/drier fitted on the left of the condensor....
  12. CONDENSOR,CONDENSOR, looking from the front of the car it is the small aircon rad fitted on the front of the coolant radiator, look on the left hand side of it, there is a chamber which houses the reciever/dryer ( this comes already installed when you buy a new condensor so don't buy them seperately ) at the top of the drier tube there is a black plastic cap prise the cap off and dribble a little light oil into it, cooking oil is what i used, if you see small air bubbles forming then it's stuffed ( the bubbles may be difficult to see as it depends how much pressure is still in the system ! )however if it's been leaking you should see some green or yellow dye crust around the circlip. Bad design mate the circlip than holds the drier in corrodes and lets out your gas ford have now modified them .VERY VERY common on early mk2's inc my own cost me aprrox
  13. Hi all has anybody had any experience with a company called (Cats To Go) looking to replace mind soon and was wondering if anyone had used them before, seem pretty good on price but i have no idea what quality or service to expect. any views ? mike... ;)
  14. Just for your info, having worked in a Bosch alternator plant dealing with customer samples for past 18 years i can confirm that INA is indeed the OEM part! it would be interesting to know the price difference in Ford and gsf, oh yeh they are a bloody swine to get off without the right tool :angry2: mike....
  15. QUOTE: Hi Mike, I had a similar problem with my 2.0l Gal last year. After having changed plugs, coil packs and a couple of cleaning attempts at the idle control valve, suddenly solved the problem by simply unpluging the MAF sensor. I guess it was giving duff readings to the ECU. With it unplugged the ECU drops into some default mode that is a lot closer match to the signals that it should be sending. I bought a replacement MAF of ebay (I think) and swapped them over a couple of weeks later. So far so good! I can't think it is to do with the relays (as I had issues with relay 30 with my non starting 2.3 Zetec Galaxy last summer!) Good luck! Chris I think you mean Dave, my galaxy is running fine  for a change lol....
  16. I thought relay 30 was to do with non-starting ?
  17. Is the auto choke working ? have you changed the leads etc , if not wait untill its gone dark open the bonnet with no lights on etc and have someone start the car while you have a good close look for arcing on the leads etc, its worth a go and don't cost nowt unless of course they are shot lol..
  18. Just aquired a new caravan  and was looking for some advice on towing with a Galaxy, mine is a mk2 2.3 and it's been LPG'd. I am about to fit some new gas shocks to rear and was just thinking of the LPG tanks weight and height of it from the deck, it's slung underneath in place of the spare and hangs rather low already without a van attached. Does anyone have any views on sring assisters or better still has anyone used them/ provide a supplier for a gal ? I know i'm going to get some sh1t over this for blocking the roads etc but what the hell, if anyone has any good advice feel free as totally new, never been caravanning before, can the gal pull it lol...? (van is a 2009 Abbey vogue 530) Any tips for towing with a galaxy also welcome . :D Ok i just found the caravan and touring section lol
  19. When you say stopped working, did they stop all of a sudden or was it a gradual slowdown when sweeping the screen and then stop ? if it was the linkage then i would think you would see the wipers struggling to sweep before giving up completely as mine did.
  20. Quote : The ones I bought from my local motor factor were identical to the original ones, even down to the part number on them, and they were very reasonable IIRC. Mr Sparky Paul what make and how much is resonable ?
  21. To be honest in the 4 years i've had mine i have turned the seats around once and no more as it is such a pain in the arse to do i don't really see the point, just my opinion though and you may well have a good reason for wanting this type of seat?
  22. Bloody hell back to school for me i think, it doesn't pay to post reply's when your in a rush lol reciever/drier is it? forgot the it. :( units, forgot the s. ;) Anyway like most of my posts it don't make bloody sense ! sorry DaveM
  23. Unsure about the 2.8's but does sound very much like aircon oil/dye , this cylinder you describe is not the reciever/drier is as i think they were a stand alone unit and not combined on the older models ? ;)
  24. Strange to see your display is still flashing, although mine has flashed on startup everytime there is a fault with the gas pressure, once the system is sorted and regassed it has always cleared straight away ?
  25. Will be soon have to change the downpipe and cat on my 2001 2.3 petrol gal as its about to part company with the car, not bad considering it's the original system. Can anyone recommend an aftermarket supplier based on their own experiences, you know what i mean Fantastic quality and dirt cheap. God only knows what Fords would charge but i could always ask for a laugh  , anyhow any links etc would be great ! mike....
