  1. I'm not sure if this is still relevant for modern engines. In the past you had to take the shine off the bores by lightly rubbing them with wire wool. This enables the oil rings to bed in and stops the oil smoke. A friend of mine rebuilt his Jag engine and didn't take the shine off the bores. After a few hundred miles it still smoked so he had to strip it down again. :(
  2. The tray itself didn't light up but I'm pretty sure there was a green LED in each aperture just to give you an idea where the tray is.
  3. I'm sure they did on my early Mk2 but they don't on my new Galaxy.
  4. I would be a bit concerned that the rubber trim popped up when opening the tailgate. This would suggest that the roof is flexing too much. Have you tried lubricating the hinges to see if it helps.
  5. I've read on other threads that cleaning the brake light switch is not very succesful. I believe the switch is only around
  6. They are there to store the seat belt webbing. The seat belt just sits under the clip to keep the luggage area clear if you use the Galaxy as a van
  7. I could be that the impact has knocked the cd lens out of alignment. I assume you are claiming against her, therefore, insist on a replacement CD changer.
  8. The tyres on the Galaxy should be reinforced. For safety and insurance reasons you should only fit the recommended type of tyre.
  9. Mine went recently, making a rumbling and knocking sound until it stopped completely. By moving it about the rumbling would come and go. New one was fitted and, like others have said, it's very quiet just a slight hum in the background.
  10. Just got my new Galaxy and it's fitted with Michelin Pilot HX and they are noticeably quieter than the Dunlops I had on my other Galaxy.
  11. It's called the auxilliary water pump and should be covered under the warranty.
  12. The headlight should come out, however, they are still hard to get out. I normally remove the four screws holding the top of the radiator grill and after a bit of wiggling and swearing the headlight should come out. I have just changed my Galaxy to a newer model, still a Mk2, and the bumper does seem closer to the headlight so I'm wondering if Ford have changed the design slightly. Sorry I can't be of any more help.
  13. A relief yes, but not much hope for the original technician.
  14. More info. If you recorded onto DVD+R, did you set the booktype to DVD-ROM. For better compatibilty use DVD-R. You are of course backing up copies of titles you already own
  15. What format DVD's are you using?
  16. Thanks for all your comments guys. There are quite a few subtle changes been done over the years but I'm slowly getting used to it. Yes GSMGuy I remembered to remove the HID's, just got to get around to refitting them.
  17. I have noticed that your Gal is a 2003 model, is it not still under the three year warranty.
  18. Picked the new Gal up to day. Certainly different, but what was really weird was filling up with diesel. Never had a diesel vehicle before so my actions were very deliberate. I don't know what the girl thought in the booth. Probably thought what's that diry old man up to  Waiting for the trip computer to settle to see what I'm averaging to the gallon. Anyone know what I should expect to get? Thanks.
  19. Sorry guys, I'm a traitor. :) Just purchased another Galaxy. Gone from 2.3 Petrol Auto to TDI 130PS Manual. I have had no problems with my last two petrol Galaxy's but now is the time to give diesel a try. I'll probably join the saga of the aux heater...............................
  20. I've always part removed the headlight assembly to change the bulbs. Makes it a lot easier. Put a piece of card or similar between the bottom of the headlight and bumber to try and prevent scratches. DON'T remove the lower two retaining screw or you'll lose them. Just undo them about one turn because the bottom fixing is with a slotted hole. The headlight unit goes back in pretty much the same way it came out. I just line it up so it looks ok in relation to the bodywork. Never had any alignment problems. They call it sod's law that if one bulb goes the other will soon follow, however it's up to you. I prefered the Philips bulbs over the Osram and I've heard the Philips Power2Night bulbs are brilliant. You could always go for HID's, cost a bit but would probably outlast the car. Hope this helps.
  21. Once they're installed you can't see anything. The offside ballast is fitted underneath the headlight and held in place with outdoor sticky pads. The nearside ballast is fitted in the battery compartment and once again held in place with the sticky pads. The ballasts do not need to be mounted a particular way up, just in a dry place. You will need to drill a 20mm hole in each access panel (the plastic cover on the back of the headlight) to run the cables from the ballast units. I then sealed any gaps with black silicon to keep the moisture out. If the ballasts now come smaller you may be able to fit them inside the headlight assembly therefore no holes needed. In my case the ballasts were just slightly too big. If you can get them inside the headlight, wrap them in something to stop them rattling around. Make sure you don't restrict the headlamp levelling mechanism. You will then need to go down your local garage to get the headlights realligned for maximum spread and height. Hope this helps. PS. Don't go poking around with these light switched on, there's a few thousand volts present. Voltage is needed to fire the HID's.
  22. Just to reassure you more, I forgot to mention that I've had two 2.3 Autos both the same symptoms. Nothing to worry about.
  23. I have a 2.3 auto and mine does the same. I'll think you'll find it's normal for our setup.
  24. Do you have the driver's side window open when you smell the petrol? If so it's more than likely the filler assembly. I think a valve gets stuck open. I had this on my Mk2 Galaxy and a new filler assembly fixed the problem.
  25. Sorry, just realised you've got a 6000 model, the wiring may be the same.
