  1. This happened to me the other day on a flight to Dublin. As the plane took off and climbed, at about 1,500 feet the cabin vents started to blow what looks like smoke at first glance. There was more than a little discussion in the cabin... After two minutes it disappeared. It's just wet air, basically, caused by the chilled air picking up moisture from the ducting in the car. It should disappear fairly quickly as the dry air-conditioned air removes the moisture. It could be that condensation has built up, possibly you have a wet cabin filter or another source of water (leak) in the system. It can just be a very warm and humid day and the car parked in the shade before you start it up. (Where's Nik - he's a physics teacher, and can explain this better than I can... )
  2. Have you tried soaking with PlusGas? Sorry, it might just help... Or heat the are around the wheel nuts with boiling water, then chill with as cold water as you can and try again.
  3. I don't fly Ryanair anymore, for similar reasons of zero customer service. Of the low cost airlines I used to use , I quite liked Debonair, but they went bust a few years ago. I figure that my time is worth more than the savings, and I value my time at about
  4. To really love :D the timing chain, change the oil regularly, especially if your car lives a life of short runs in cold weather.
  5. I understood, Oggy.... Um, the bit where you said, if he had a problem... Um...
  6. Hang on! My avatar's calling me a mushroom... Ahhh! 'Champion'! (I'll be champion at snake for about as long as my aircon keeps working... :D ) :27:
  7. Head gasket issues are common to the VW 2.8 VR6 engine I believe.
  8. Can I change my vote? :27:
  9. Gaaaah! Got in the Galaxy to pop out to the shops this evening... Panel flashing - no cold air! :D Ah well, back to the garage. :(
  10. I would agree about the quality- However the Galaxy is not a Ford it's a VW/SEAT . Toyotas are very reliable - just not as good and plain boring!! Exactly! My wife asked me which is the most reliable MPV, and this is probably the Toyota Previa. The local taxi company use both Previas and Galaxys, and they told me that the Previa is much more reliable. All the evidence, such as Honest John's car-by-car breakdown (appropriate name when discussing the Galaxy) points to the Previa being the sensible choice. (However, I'd rather have a Galaxy than drive around looking like a dick.) :D
  11. Have a good one! :D
  12. Yes, but he wants to tow a caravan. Sure you can do it with the petrol versions but at a price. In his case diesel is the way to go. I don't agree. :D The 1.8T engine (with a manual gearbox) would make a fine caravan puller, thanks to it's flat torque curve, better acceleration rate change and larger rev range than the diesel versions. Thanks to the fact that diesels are more popular, the petrol engined versions are currently cheaper to buy.
  13. Do they call you 'big boy' at home then? :D :D ;)
  14. The cabin filter cover IS a weakness on some VAG vehicles. On recent Golf/Leon/A3 a badly fitted scuttle trim will let water in even if the filter is properly fitted - the bit that fits around the filter mounting is flimsy and easily wrongly fitted.
  15. Yes, but does the cycle carrier keep you any cooler?
  16. Starter solenoid could be sticky... a clean out might help. In my experience, if this is the cause, when you take the solenoid apart it will be obviously 'stuck' and difficult to move by hand! Just an idea...
  17. But do it gently! You could damage things if you are not careful!
  18. What Gal do you have? Petrol, diesel???? I assume the picture is looking upwards?
  19. he he he When Dingo met Sally? :16:
  20. It's very irritating! You take a car in for some easy-peasy work (like a service) and they can't even put the damn thing back together properly. Some are better than others, but the Ford dealer that did our aux. coolant pump under warranty didn't even pull the rubber mountings through the back plate... He broke one and I suppose gave up after that. None of the plastic bits (around the battery) were fitted properly, either. We got the Gal back today after aircon warranty work (done by an independent in Maidenhead, Berks.) and it looks like everything is where it should be (phew). You should be able to check the roll restrictor easily enough - stand to one side of the car with the bonnet up and get someone to (gently) try to pull away with the handbrake firmly applied. The engine will rock on its' mountings. To much movement can cause other damage, so if you suspect the RR be careful! Re: gearbox, it sounds like the cables are badly fitted or snagged - maybe the routing is incorrect? Does the car run smoother with the MAF reconnected?
  21. And here's the Mercury (Masked?) Maurauder...
  22. The worst thing about it is it's a Diesel... ... but at least Meg still thinks I'm the best!
  23. Speak English man! Or are you a txt maniac?
  24. Got the car back today. The garage replaced the drier, re-set the panel and re-gassed. The result - VERY nice VERY chilled air  - as good as I get in my Audi A4. Front and rear vents feel as cold as each other, so maybe my feeling the rear was colder was 'psychological'. I wonder how long it can last...
