  1. Nimrod I'll keep my eyes out for one as my next project - now that the dvd stuff is in. But then again I did contemplate those 3rd row armrests didn't I?
  2. Yeah, mine does feel rougher when you are stationery with brakes applied but in drive. Strange thing is that I test drove about 3 V6's before I bought mine and they all showed this characteristic roughness between 1000 and 1100 revs. I know this can't be just a characteristic of the VR6 because of the good days (or miles) as you quote.
  3. Nelse I spent last saturday trying to take of the lower cowling despite removing all the screws behind the steering wheel - it would not come off. I do think that the steering wheel needs to come of to do this - unless anyone else can advise otherwise.
  4. SA Do you know if one could be retro fitted?
  5. Thanks for the links nimrod but I'm actually in the East Midlands so C & R are not too far away. I'm just struggling with whether I want another headache of chasing and pursuing this at the current time ( got a lot on at work and home) but may do so in the near future. BTW Denis and Vinny 2984, I have a slight unusual roughness / vibration in the engine when it revs between 1000 - 1100 either on acceleration or deceleration about 80% of the time. I've noted that when this doesn't happen (ie the other 20% of the time), the engine runs really smooth and there are no hiccups whatsover. Any experience of this??
  6. I find the resume button really useful. If you've had to brake (or hit the clutch) or momentarily accelerated beyond the set speed, hitting resume brings your speed back to the set speed.
  7. Denis My V6 auto is the same. Been back to dealers twice for this - They can find nothing wrong (no codes). Learning to live with it even though I know it's not quiet right (at times it's really ultra smooth). I did contemplate taking it to a vw specialist in Nottingham called C & R enterprises - they are acknowledged as experts in the field, but just haven't got round to it yet.
  8. BDM2510 JPG's would be good to see. If you want a copy of the pdf manual that I have on the standard fit dvd unit, pm me and leave your email address.
  9. BDM2510 According to a manual I have, the power to the dvd comes via the connector at cavity A (the bottom one. There are no additional points for power on the back of the unit. The missing part that you refer to may be the answer because there is a link between the head unit and the multi media system - The m/media kit should only work when the head unit is on and can run for an hour after key removal alongside the Head Unit. BTW, just for my info, did the ford engineer pass the cables down the seat back and if so, do you know if they removed the seat cover to do so?
  10. Dave-G Like you, I've used the switched live on the headlight switch for my sony ericsson car kit too. I was reluctant to add another device there that draws current as opposed to the car kit that just uses it to sense whether ignition is on. The switched live on the Head Unit has my multimedia adaptor connected to it and draws a little current but was reluctant to add any further devices there also, however, I have used this point as an interim and have no blown fuses so far. I think that the ignition switch would have been the best place but that damn lower shroud just won't budge and I ain't gonna take the steering wheel off. Thanks for all your help so far guys. Further ideas still welcome.
  11. This top connector is known as cavity C and is not used. Out of interest, how did you carry out the install ( cables down the seat backs etc.. ) I ask because I've just installed a non ford system but similar in functionality etc.
  12. Thanks Ian. I did see that wire but found it really hard to get to. I couldn't get the steering column shroud (lower) off despite many attempts - can only assume the steering wheel need to come off to do this. Is this right?
  13. Cigarette lighter and clock have ground, illumination and permanent live only.
  14. This may be a dumb question but does anybody know where I can find a switched live point on my Galaxy other than that on the back of the Head Unit? I was fitting some multi media stuff at the weekend but failed to find a switched live point that might carry some load. The point on the back of the HU already has some additional bits on it and I didn't want to use that. Any ideas?
  15. BTW Where is Jakey nowadays???
  16. Swansea Fred You have a number of choices assuming you have the RNS sat nav kit that most galaxies and sharans have. Ford dealers don't know what they are talking about so just ignore them. 1) On the back of your unit, you will have a socket for a VW / Audi 6 disc changer. You can get one of these either from a VW dealership or ebay sometimes has these on for sale. Install this under the drivers seat - you will have to pass the bus cable through from the sat nav unit to under the seat where you mount the changer. Remember that the RNS unit is really a VAG product - it is not a Ford component - this is why they get lost. 2) If you do not want to fit a VW /Audi changer, you can buy an alternative one. BUT to do this, you will need to buy an interface adaptor to change the VW / Audi output on the back of your sat nav to the alternative one you choose. I know that Alpine and Sony do an interface to allow their changers to work. Again install the changer under the driver seat etc etc. 3) You could purchase a cd changer that has an FM modulator. This will basically plug into your fm aerial socket (and your aerial into the modulator). This will allow you to tune to a frequency on which you can hear you cd's. However, you will need to have an additional control box with a little display mounted somewhere on your dashboard to control the changer. Also, you will need to organise a separate power supply for the changer because with this option, you have no bus lead that delivers current from your sat nav unit. Again the changer can be mounted under the driver seat etc etc 4) The last option is probably the most costly but most versatile in some respects. On the back of your RNS unit, there is an auxiliary line input - but to use this you will need to buy a multi media adaptor /interface box that costs about
  17. SA Like the picture of your Alhambra. Must say I've failed to be impressed in the past by the Alhambra's front end but the angle you've caught it at does it some justice! Looks good!
  18. Andy, I have a 2003 model galaxy and a centre console was fitted to vehicles that specified the dvd / video option. I just bought the console from the parts section and am fitting my own multimedia kit. I am not sure that this part will fit mk 1 galaxies but it may be worth you asking at a ford parts counter.
  19. Do any of you guys know how to take of the handbrake lever grip (the bit that you hold and is covered in leather)? I'm fitting one of those centre consoles and I need to slide it over the h/b lever but it will not fit with the grip on. The TIS CD does refer to this but I can't make any sense of how to do it!
  20. nelse I have a rattle in the drivers door - comes from the door opening clasp. It stops when the the door is locked - perhaps because their is no slack in the mechanicals when it is locked.
  21. VW and Seat dealers too!
  22. What do you think guys - Shall I try the 98 RON in my V6? At worst, it'll lighten my wallet abit!!
  23. The 2.8 certainly has a larger compressor with variable output and may be this then gets fitted to other models that specify dual aircon. I too like Howard agree that it's not at the expense of front cooling.
  24. Agree with Mr T - texting is a bit dodgy whist driving!!!!!
  25. German ebay had two centre consoles with cup holders and switches a few weeks back but seller would only post within Germany. May be worth searching though.
