Fitting Dvd Kit Yourself

Corskey Please note, the soundlink aux adaptor does not support s-video it only has composite video feed! -
No wires either. Infra red headphone transmitter built into the monitors. Had 5 headphones running of them the other week. Could have had more!!!

I have a 2003 model galaxy with factory fit RNS 4 sat nav and can confirm that it does give voice instructions!
-
If it's got controls for temp & fan in the rear headlining, then it has only got a rear heater blower and not the full rear aircon. Sorry.

Spark Excellent choice of monitors if I say so and mounted really well. I have used the same monitors in mine but had to have the whole headrest retrimmed because it was one of the doughnut types. Just out of curiosity, how did you pass the cable down from the headrest in to the seat back? Did you use a grommet or anything? A pic would be useful. I have passed the cable down the edgr of the headrest bar and can just be seen if the headrest is not at its lowest height. I chose a non sony dvd though because I wanted all region playback and mouted it under the passenger seat.

Let me know if Ford are able to resolve it. I'll then got on their case too!

I have owned a 2002 model without rear aircon and I now own a 2003 model with rear aircon. Would say that rear aircon is certainly worth it. This summer, my kids have told me that it's too cold in the back dad and by increasing the rear temp by one or two degrees has made them more comfortable - especially at night when they want to doze off. The effects are suttle and take some time to take effect but they do.

My 2003 v6 has them!

jessam, I think you've won all round! I think you will find that the monitors in the headrest is really the most versatile and effective solution. And to top it - a ford dealer doing you such a favour?? Let us know how you get on. -

Donuts should not be a problem. I had 6.5inch screens fitted in mine. It will cost a little more though. Several ICE outlets in the East Midlands area were willing to do them. -
There is a mixed bag of views re the sports suspension. Some here on the forum have sworn by the much improved ride and handling characteristics whilst others say it makes slight changes to the ride / handling balnce and characteristics - Having a V6 like richmond would appreciate the slight improvements no doubt. Also, suspension setup can often be a matter of personal choice. The climate control setup you refer to where you can actually have chilled air in the back from roof vents is called dual aircon. It used to be an option on all but the V6's but with the 2004 model year became standard on the ghia. So make sure you get a 2004 model year variant as has been mentioned by Andrew T. The cruise control should be identical and mine works a treat.

or you can have your own head restraints with monitors constructed that are padded out to give just that little extra depth as I have done. BTW Remember those old range rovers that used to have a two piece headrests - they had the normal headrest an an extra padding piece that clipped on to give considerably more depth. Timwood2000, maybe this could point to a possible solution.

I've driven a friends and no you can't compare it to a galaxy. The steering is far far to light and remains so at speed, the autobox (I've not driven a manual), was only a four speed with overdrive but the overdrive made little difference, lots of body roll too. But Nice supple ride, bags more space than the galaxy and very comfy for even eight people and their luggage! (galaxy just can't do that). Hope that helps.

Satellite Navigation - Cd Changer
Dally replied to wheeler's topic in I.C.E (In Car Entertainment) Discussion
wheeler With regards to fitting a cd changer, you need to be aware that the factory fit sat nav in the galaxy is a VW unit (RNS4). If you wish to fit an OEM changer then you will have to purchase a VW/Audi one and they have a loom that is different from the Ford loom (the ford loom is only compatibale with the visteon version for the ford head units). I am not sure whether the loom you have in you galaxy is a ford one or the VW one. As an alternative, you could fit a non OEM changer eg sony. But to do this, you will need to buy an interface box that will fit in the back of your sat nav unit. In your case this will need to be a VW to sony converter (that is if you want to fit a sony changer) and you will then have to pass a sony loom from the converter box to the changer. In my previous galaxy, I had a ford 6000 unit and no changer but the ford loom was there. I decided to fit a sony changer because it was better then the visteon units. The converter interface (made by connects2) cost -
Actuary, I find that it is very difficult to say at what revs changes are made with mine. It all depends on the rolling resistance - gradient, throttle position, engine temperature, cornering (steering position) etc. I too feel on occasions that it should change up quicker at times and it hangs on until you rev it's head off but I have noticed that it always seems to be in the mornings on my way to work, on the same stretch of incline and when it hasn't quite warmed up fully and I'm in a rush. I do the same route on a sunday and the problem seems to be less evident. May be because I'm driving more gently etc. Hey maybe this gearbox ecu really is intelligent and does what it's supposed to? It is different from other autos that I've driven but have got used to it now -Anyway, I usually slip into tiptronic mode if it starts to annoy me and just change up manually.

iainkirk Thanks for the info. I had looked at expansys but were out of stock. All others that seem to have it are nearer -
oscar Many quality in car entertainment outlets are offering this service now. The structural integrity of the headrest has not been changed, basically they have been padded out to increase their size to accomodate and allow fixing of the monitors. I couldn't fit a roof monitor because of my dual ac vents despite trying many configurations and besides, my 8 year old was looking virtually vertically with crooked neck at a roof monitor. Also, having the two screens means that one can watch a dvd and the other can play on her psone. Good luck with your choice, whatever it may be.

iainkirk I'm looking to buy a tomtom go for my wifes car. Yesterday the kids were at my mums and we thought we'd take my wifes fiesta to Leamington spa (and save some fuel - 1.25 vs 2.8v6 = many -
oscar I have a 2003 model with the small doughnut headrests. I too found it a problem to have sreens fitted. In the end, a local car upholsterer managed to butcher them and re trim them with 6.5 inch widesreen monitors. The only problem was that it cost me

I've not done this myself but have the facrtory fit sat nav and changer. The following may help. The cd changer used with the sat nav unit is an audi/VW unit, the changer used by the ford head units has differnt fittings and is made by visteon if I am not mistaken. You will have to replace the facia because there are some slight differences in size but someone has done this before and should be on the site somewhere. The factory fit sat nav gps antenna fits on the roof an the back. I am sure that you will need changes to wiring or will need to aquire different fittings. -
I had a 2002 model 2.3 before my current galaxy. This was my first mpv and bought a used model in zetec trim not really knowing what to expect - I thought that if I didn't like it, I could sell it on and go back to a saloon or an estate. I was so impressed with the vehicle that I decided that I would trade up for a ghia with all the bells and whistles - hence my V6. I found that the 2.3 wasn't too bad on fuel, the engine was smooth and responsive-despite the size of the vehicle, the ride was very comfortable and supple but there was some body roll, there were no squeaks or rattles either. I did have a few problems but they have probably been covered above. In contrast my V6 is thirsty, less forgiving on the ride, rattles and squeaks on occasion, the leather seats are not as comfortable as the cloth in the zetec . -still glad I bought it though. Moral of the story is that the 2.3 was a great ambassador for the galaxy (well in my case). Go for it!!

They may have removed the radio to get to the serial number to get the radio code of the their system. Radio code would have been needed if the battery was disconnected.

Both my previous 2002 model and current 2003 came with reinforced tyres out of the factory. Would not risk anything less just for the sake of saving a few quid. Just feel that bit more comfortable when my family are on board! BTW : - That's my personal opinion.
